Selective Memories by anime-gurl

Prologue

A/N: I know, I know. I should be working on Church Bells, and New School, but this just popped into my head when I was away with the people from my school. I tried not writing it, but I just couldn't help myself. Don't worry though all stories will continue to make progress.

Summary: Kagome Higurashi is an ordinary girl, newly out of high school, and heading away from home for university in New York. She is not however as ordinary as she appears, Kagome Higurashi is a miko, a few years back she traveled in the feudal era with a band of friends, Inuyasha, Sango, Miroku, and Shippo. They had had the final battle with Naraku, but afterwards Kagome's mother insisted that she return home. When she finally returned to the feudal era, everything had changed.

Shippo, had died of an illness Kagome could have easily cured with her modern medicine, Sango and Miroku were splitting up from the group on their own to find adventures, and Inuyasha, well Inuyasha was much the same, but Kagome's relative Kikyou stolen his heart. Kagome was overwhelmed and after saying good bye to them all she returned to her own era, sealing the well once again or so she thought.

Kagome however had not wanted to face these facts, and blamed herself for Shippo's death. She had quickly convinced herself that everything that had happened in the feudal era was all a bad dream, that the feudal era, and her friends never existed, her mother called it selective memory. One remembers only what they wish had happened, or just basically gives themselves amnesia about the time they wish to forget. Kagome had convinced herself that it had never happened.

Sadly this wasn't meant to last, because once her classes at university start she becomes reacquainted with someone she barely remembers.

Kagome walked into the apartment not far from campus that she was sharing with the two girls she had just recently met, Bethany Summers, and Becky Winslow. The two girls both were studying to become doctors as well. When she walked in the blonde Bethany was painting her nails, and looking through her textbook and brunette Becky was looking through her clothes. "Hey, Kagome. Which of these says 'serious, but fun loving'" Becky asked. Holding up two outfits, Kagome pointed to the one in her right hand. "Really, that's what I was thinking too" Becky said smiling widely. Kagome laughed at her friend and sat down in a chair looking through her textbook.

"Done" Beth announced, showing them hot pink nails. "Look great" Becky told her, Kagome nodded to show her agreement. Suddenly the phone rang and Kagome, being nearest answered, "Hello?' "Hi Kagome", it was her little brother Sota, well not so little anymore. "Hey Sota, what's up" Kagome asked, she loved hearing from him, but he usually only called for a reason. "Nothing really, I'm hanging out with the guys tonight. What about you, nervous about school" Sota asked. "I guess, sort of" Kagome said "I hadn't really thought about it." "Oh, well the reason I'm calling is that I think I might have thrown in your old journal instead of your new one, or maybe both" Sota told her sounding like he was confusing himself. "It's ok Sota, but I better go. I have to do some studying" Kagome told him. "Ok, bye Kagome" Sota said "miss you." "Miss you too Sota, bye" she said.

"Little brother" Becky said, it was more of a statement than a question. "Yep" Kagome said. "Ok, girls it's our last night of freedom for awhile, what do you say to a night at the club" Beth proposed. Both girls agreed and within hours they were all dressed up and entering one of New York's hottest nightclubs.

Kagome was dancing fast and furiously as the night passed, having to be dragged out to go home to bed. The next day she went through her classes working as hard as possible, she had gotten a very good scholarship, but she had to keep her grades up and she still had other things to pay for, so she had a part time job. Kagome entered her last class of the day and noticed that there was only one seat left unfilled the one next to her.

Suddenly the door opened swiftly and quietly, Kagome not even looking towards the door. She stared at her book sitting in front of her. "Ah, Mr. Toshi. I see you have finally arrived" the professor's sarcastic voice said. Next cam a voice that one could never forget causing Kagome to look towards the speaker. "Yes, I am here, and sarcasm does not suit your person." Kagome's eyes landed on a tall figure with long silver hair that looked like silk. It was a hair color she had only seen once before, and even though she had convinced herself that everyone, and everything about the feudal era was a creation of her imagination, somewhere in the back of her subconscious she knew it had all happened. There was no one who could ever forget that hair or that voice, and one look at his eyes confirmed it.

"Sesshoumaru" Kagome breathed softly.

A/N: Ok, I know this is pretty short, but if people like it I will write more. Please R&R, criticism welcomed. Hope you liked it, and again I know I should be working on Church Bells, or New School, but I just couldn't get this out of my head. Don't worry though I will put out new parts to those stories tomorrow. Again please R&R.
