From the Goodness of my Broken Heart

They were there at last. The final battle. Naraku would die tonight and everyone would live happily ever after with Inuyasha. Right? She would, wouldn't she?

'Oh kami please let us survive this,' Kagome thought as she fired off another arrow to disintegrate Naraku's tentacles.

"Kaze no Kizu!" Inuyasha cried, swinging the Tetsusiaga. The blast flew straight towards Naraku.

"Inuyasha look out!" Kagome screamed, but it was too late. The tentacle that Naraku had flung out at Inuyasha just moments before the attack hit – it had killed him finally – pierced through Inuyasha's chest in a killing blow. "Inuyasha!" Kagome screamed, dropping her bow and arrows.

"He's dead," Kagura called. "There's nothing you can do."

"Inuyahsa!" Kagome cried, collapsing to her knees besides the inu-hanyo. Scoffing Kagura fled the scene. Kanna was dead.

"K-Kagome?" Inuyasha choked out. He was barely alive. He would've been dead if he were any normal ningen.

"Oh Inuyasha," Kagome cried, tears welling in her eyes, "you're okay, thank god you're okay...."

"K-Kag-g-gome, do m-me a f-favor, please?"

"Why Inuyasha?" Kagome asked, a sob welling into her throat. There was so much blood..."it's not like you're going to die, right?"

"'Gome, l-list-ten to m-me," Inuyasha whispered, his life was slipping, "I AM g-g-going to d-die toni-ight."

"Inuyasha no! You can't!"

"D-Do me a-a fa-avor? O-Onegai?"

"Whatever you want Inuyasha," Kagome sobbed reluctantly.

"Save him 'Gome," he breathed, "save him. Show him compassion, he needs it more than he realizes...."

"Who Inuyasha?"

"S-Show him compassion like you d-did me...."

"Who Inuyasha! Who do you mean!?"

"Sess-Sess-Sessho-ma-ru...." Inuyasha breathed his last and Kagome screamed in pain. It felt as if her very heart was wrenching in two.

"Inuyasha," she sobbed onto his bloody chest, "oh Inuyasha...please be okay...please...onegaishimasu, onegaishimasu!" (onegaishimasu – please, politely said)

"Kagome-chan?" Kagome ignored the call.

"Kagome-sama?"

"Kagome-mama?"

She ignored all their calls, crying so hard that she began to hiccup.

"Kagome-chan, are you alright?"

Bile rose into her throat. She coughed up mucus, still sobbing horrifically.

"Kagome-sama, are you okay?"

She pulled herself away from Inuyasha's slain body and placed her hands on the ground, sobbing. More bile rose into her throat and she spat out more mucus.

"Kagome-mama?"

She retched as she sobbed. She retched emptily from her crying.

"Kagome-chan!"

She continued to dry heave, hyperventilating. It didn't matter, thought, she would join him soon enough....

"Kagome-sama!"

The hyperventilating grew into harsh choking, she could hardly breathe now.

"Kagome-mama!"

Darkness crept into her vision....

"KAGOME!!!!!!!"

And Kagome knew no more.

I know it's a bit short, okay a lot short actually, but think of this as more of a prologue than anything. It's just putting in a base setting. Now as to disclaimers...
