Kagome stood quite paralyzed by what she had just overheard.

Frowning, she stepped back into the shadows

and masked her scent like Sesshomaru had taught her.

" I know the midwife. A well placed knife cut and the Lady

And the hanyou she carries would no longer be an issue."

The voice that replied was one of Lord Sesshomaru's closest advisors.

" Make it so. I do not wish for my Lord to bear the shame his father carried. Better she die in childbirth than live to bear more of the

hanyou bastards."

" Then the grieving Lord will be mine." That

female voice was unknown to her. Lilting and pretty, it was a refined voice.

No doubt one of the demon courtiers who had attended their recent feast announcing the emminent arrival of an heir.

" twould be even easier to poison her now and not risk the child surviving. " The advisor spoke again.

" No I think Lord Sesshomaru deserves to suffer..that is until I become

the next lady of the Western Lands." The cruel laughter that followed made Kagome shudder. " Then I shall bear him a proper heir."

Their footsteps echoed as they walked down the hall. Tucked against the wall until she was certain they were gone, Kagome ran as quickly as she could to search for her mate, Lord Sesshomaru.

Sesshomaru sensed his mate before she saw him. He looked up to her. " What is it?"

She took a breath and told him exactly what she had overheard.

Shivering, she leaned against him. Her hands were wrapped around her burgeoning belly, as if to protect their unborn child. He could sense the child's heart beat within Kagome's own.

The thought of anyone conspiring to take his Lady wife fromhim made him ill; Then to add the thought of his own child never drawing a breath. His claws ached to disembowl the ones who had

plotted this foulness. Then he calmed. He looked down to his beautiful wife and

said " I have a plan.."
