Learn To Be Lonely

DISCLAIMER: I do not own InuYasha, or any of it's characters, or Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Learn to be Lonely," written for "Phantom of the Opera". I don't even own my heart anymore ^_~

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The little boy looked at the woman. She was beautiful, she looked divine. "Are you an angel?" he asked.
The raven-haired beauty giggled. "No, but you should save yourself for me, okay?"
"What do you mean, save myself for you? What's your name, pretty lady?" more giggles.
"I can't tell you that." She smiled that dazzling smile, then began to fade. The little boy tried to chase after his angel, but she was fading too rapidly.
"But how will I know it's you?!" He stumbled and fell. "Trust me, you'll know." She faded completely.
Then, Sesshomaru woke up.
He had the same dream for the next 20 years.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Sesshomaru sat at the bar, looking down into his empty glass. "Barkeep, another shot." The man behind the counter shook his head sadly, but poured the silver-haired stranger more alcohol. Sesshomaru downed it, then put it back on the counter.

"Girl trouble?" asked the man. Sesshomaru looked at the man with a tart reply on his lips, but decided against it.

"I guess you could say that."

"Wanna tell old Myoga about it?"

"Not really, but you'll probably demand an explanation anyways." The old man smiled and sat down, prepared to help yet another poor drunkard with his love life. Unfortunately for him, this was not "just another drunkard."

"My father is the president of a VERY large corporation, and to expand said corporation, he has arranged marriages for myself and that filthy halfbreed of a brother. I am far to busy to be tied down to a woman. I don't need a wife."

'Well, THIS is one I haven't heard before...' Myoga thought. "Well....what's so bad about it? If you're too busy, then you'll never be home, so you'll never have to deal with her. Come on, she can't be THAT bad...can she?"

"Actually, I've never met her. But I'm sure that she won't meet my standards." This got a raised eyebrow from Myoga.

"My my, aren't we cocky? Are your standards really that high?" Sesshomaru gave him an icy glare, and was about to respond when he heard a familiar voice, so sad, singing....

~~~~~
Child of the Wilderness,
Born into emptiness,
Learn to be lonely,
Learn to find your way in darkness
~~~~~

'That voice....I know I've heard it before...'

~~~~~
Who will be there for you?
Comfort and care for you?
Learn to be lonely,
Learn to be your one companion
~~~~~

'That voice, it's so laced with sorrow...so sad.....but, for some reason, I know I've never heard it sad...it's always been a happy voice....'

~~~~~
Never dream that out in the world,
There are arms to hold you.
You've always known
Your heart was on it's own
~~~~~

Sesshomaru turned his head towards the stage, and froze.

~~~~~
So laugh in your loneliness
Child of the Wilderness
Learn to be Lonely
Learn how to love life that is lived alone
~~~~~

It HAD to be her.. She looked just as she always had...the raven hair, the white skin...

~~~~~
Learn to be lonely,
Life can be lived,
Life can be loved,
Alone.
~~~~~

Alone. The last word of her song reverberated in his head as he got lost in her sapphire orbs. It HAD to be her... the angel from his dreams! So... why was she so sad?

The whole bar clapped as she took her bow and walked sadly offstage. "Mr...Myoga, was it? Who's that girl?" Myoga looked in surprise at the man who he had seen change before his very eyes. He had gone from a walking ice-sickle to a love-struck boy.

"Her name is Kagome, and she's a runaway. Her father had also arranged some marriage for her, apparently, and she was in love with someone else. So, she ran away." Sesshomaru almost choked on his scotch at the last part.

"S-someone else?! Did she say who?!" Myoga almost laughed.

"Here's the funny part. She said she's never met him, only spoken to him in her dreams." 'I KNEW it...' Sesshomaru thought. He placed a twenty on the bar. "keep the change." he said, then ran right out of the bar.

It's wonderland" (it's InuYasha's Ringtone, LMAO ) (EN: u just had to stick that in their aki. U and that song)

"'Yash here."

"Where is your brother!?"

InuYasha rolled his eyes. "wow, love you too, Dad."

"InuYasha...."

"I know, I know....we must respect our elders, blah blah blah. Anyways, I don't know where Sesshomaru is. He said he was going out, and he hasn't been back yet. You know him, he stays out till last call."

"Well, you better find him, there's something important he has to hear about his Fiancée." 'Oh, he'll be thrilled about that one..' InuYasha thought.

"Sure, Dad, whatever. Bye." InuYasha grabbed his jacket and his keys and went out to find his brother.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kagome sighed. She had thought she's glimpsed him, her angel, but...then he disappeared. 'You promised you'd save yourself for him, Kags. If that means waiting even longer, then so be it.' Kagome knew what the angel had meant now. In High school, she used to get whistles, she was invited on dates, but she always declined, always thinking of her angel.
*KNOCK, KNOCK*
"Go away, Naraku, how many times have I told you, I'm NOT going to go out with you.
"I'm not Naraku, whoever that is." said a voice from the other side. Kagome froze, she knew that voice....could it be? She ran to the door, opened it, and stared into the most beautiful amber eyes she'd ever seen. It HAD to be him...how many silver-haired amber-eyed guys do you meet?
"Ahem."
Kagome blinked. "OH! Sorry....I spaced out for a second there...um....do you want to come in, Mr....?"
"Sesshomaru. Sesshomaru Taiyoukai." Kagome vaguely remembered the name, but didn't really care.
"And you are?" Sesshomaru asked.
"Kagome. Kagome Higurashi." Sesshomaru smiled. Kagome....he had heard the name before, and he couldn't remember where, but it had a lovely ring to it. The girl put her hand out and Sesshomaru took it and bowed over it, leaving a gentle kiss.
"It's...a pleasure to meet you, Taiyoukai-san..." Kagome said breathlessly.
"Please, call me Sesshomaru. And the pleasure is all mine, Kagome." She nearly MELTED when he said her name. She stepped away from the door and let the stranger inside.
"Sorry for the mess, I just got here..." Sesshomaru looked up when he heard a bit of anger and sadness in her voice.
"Oh, yes...That Myoga fellow told me you ran away." When he said that, Kagome burst into tears.
Alarmed by this display, Sesshomaru gently placed his arms around her, attempting to comfort her. He felt her turn into him and lean against his chest, sobbing into his shirt. He ran his hand down her hair, muttering soft nothings to her, in an attempt to calm her. After about a minute her sobs quieted, and she just let him support her. "Sesshomaru.....can I ask you something?"
"Anything, Kagome..."
"Are you my angel?"
Sesshomaru froze.
"What...what did you ask?" Kagome hastily pulled away, looking down at the floor as if embarrassed.
"Are you the angel from my dreams? I know this sounds strange, but....ever since I was a little girl, I've had these dreams of a silver-haired, amber-eyed angel....he told me to wait, to save myself for him, and that's exactly what I did...." Seeing Sesshomaru's shocked face, Kagome turned away. "....Never mind. Forget it...." Finally breaking the hold that shock had on him, Sesshomaru walked over to her.
"Actually...it doesn't sound crazy at all....I've had the same thing. Ever since I was a boy, I've dreamed of this raven-haired angel with the brightest blue eyes I've ever seen...and she told me to save myself for her. Are you my angel, Kagome?" The two searched each other's eyes for a moment, then Kagome smiled.
"It IS you...I knew it....." And for the first time in a long while, Sesshomaru smiled too. He leaned his head down just as she raised her's, and he kissed her. Kagome instantly slid her eyes closed. 'Oh, man, this is AMAZING....' she thought. 'She tastes so sweet....' he thought they broke apart after what seemed like an eternity, and smiled at each other. A tear appeared in Kagome's eye and Sesshomaru wiped it away. "Why are you crying?"
"Because I'm happy."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

InuYasha walked into what he guessed was the last bar in town. He went over to the bar keep, an old man with a strange mustache. "Um excuse me, Mr...?" The barkeep looked up and paled ever so slightly. 'Oh god, not another one..'

"Myoga. My name is Myoga."

"Well, Mr. Myoga, you wouldn't happen to have seen a guy in here who looked kind of like me except taller and with lighter hair?"

"Backstage, 2nd door on the right." InuYasha breathed a sigh of relief.

"Thanks, gramps." He took a $50 out of his pocket and put it on the counter. "For all your help. ^_~" Then walked towards the backstage entrance.

He saw the 2nd door was open and walked up to it. He poked his head in and his jaw fell to the floor. His brother, the one who had always refused the most beautiful dates in school and refused to even MEET his Fianceé, had his arms wrapped around a girl that looked quite plain. When they broke apart, InuYasha noticed her eyes first. They were a lovely shade of blue, and a tear appeared in one of them. "Why are you crying?" His brother said in a voice that InuYasha had never heard him use before.

"Because I'm happy." the girl replied. InuYasha decided that he better break this up before they began kissing again.

"Ahem."

Sesshomaru whirled around, pushing Kagome behind him as if to shield her from the door. "InuYasha?! What are you doing here?"

"Dad says there's something you need to know about your Fianceé." At that last word Sesshomaru paled and Kagome looked stricken.

"Fi...Fi... Fianceé?" Sesshomaru turned around in time to catch her as it seemd that her knees had gone out.

"Kagome!" she had fainted. Sesshomaru picked her up very gently and placed her on what he assumed was her bed, smoothed her bangs away from her face, then turned to his brother who was looking with interest on the whole scene.

"Well...I guess you didn't tell her that you were engaged." InuYasha said seriously. Sesshomaru sent his brother a death glare.

"That's because I am NOT going to marry that woman, whoever she is." Sesshomaru sighed, and InuYasha saw, for the first time, the person who his brother was. Not who his brother pretended to be, the man under the mask. "InuYasha, you know how I always had the same dream, every night? And I tried to explain it to you once?"

InuYasha looked wary, but answered anyways. "yeah...and?"

"In my dreams, I saw an angel. She had long, silky raven-black hair and beautiful sapphire eyes. She asked me to save myself for her, and I said I would. Before I told Kagome about those dreams, she told me that she had dreams about an angel. He had Silver hair and amber eyes. Now, I've had the same dreams. I KNOW this is her. And she says I'm her angel. I promised I would save myself for her and she promised she would save herself for me. I...I think I love her, Yash..." InuYasha was shocked that a.) his brother had just used his nickname and that b.) his brother had just admitted to loving someone. But just at that moment, the girl on the bed began to stir.

Sesshomaru rushed to her side and held her hand. He took it as a good sign that she squeezed back. She opened her eyes slowly and when she saw Sesshomaru, her eyes opened instantly. "Am I dreaming again? Angel, is that you?" Sesshomaru smiled again, and looked down at the strange girl.

"Maybe. It's me, Sesshomaru, Kagome. And no, you're not dreaming." As the memories slowly came back, she smiled, then, all of a sudden, her smile turned to a pained look of betrayal. She sat up and pulled her hand out of his. "I..If you were my angel....then....then you wouldn't be engaged!" He tried to help her stand, but she began to beat her hands against his chest. InuYasha could tell that her fists weren't what was hurting his brother, it was that she was acting like she hated him. He wrapped his arms around her, and she stopped beating him and just collapsed crying onto him for the second time that night. Again he began stroking her hair, whispering to her. "Kagome...It's not what you think. It's an arranged marriage, and I have no intention of going through with it. I never have. Also, I've heard that the girl was already in love with someone else and doesn't want to go through it either." Kagome looked up with renewed hope at the man of her dreams. Litterally.

"....Really?" He looked down and smiled at her.

"Really." They were about to embrace again when a noise disturbed everyone in the room.

"I want to Change the world

It's wonderland"

InuYasha took out his phone and opened it. "'Yash here."

"Yeah...I'm still looking for him, dad. I don't know where he went. Usually I would have found him by now." InuYasha winked at his brother and winked, and for the first time in history, Sesshomaru smiled a genuine smile to his little brother.

"What?! Are you serious?!? Ran away, huh? What about Kikyo? Oh, thank God. Well, when I find him I'll be sure to tell him, dad. Yea. OK. Oh! Hey dad, what's the other girl's name again? Right. Thanks, dad. Bye." After he hung up, InuYasha fell to the ground laughing.

"InuYasha, what did your father say about a girl named Kikyo?" At the sound of the girl's name, InuYasha calmed down just enough to say that she was ok, and refusing to tell her grandmother about where her twin sister is. Kagome gave a barely noticeable sigh of relief, but InuYasha saw it and started laughing again.

"InuYasha, just WHAT is so funny?" Snapped Sesshomaru.

InuYasha stood up. "Father will LOVE this..."

"InuYasha... Do you want to become a punching bag again or are you going to tell us just what is so funny?"

"Sesshomaru, don't threaten your brother!" Kagome scolded playfully.

"Oh, and now you're trying to scold me, are you?" Kagome giggled and Sesshomaru leaned down and stole yet another kiss from her.

"Sesshomaru, Kagome, do the math."

Sesshomaru and kagome thought for a little bit, then their eyes got really big. "Kagome, you said.... you ran away from an arranged marriage?"

"Yeah...and my sister Kikyo promised not to tell where I went..." Then they both smiled. Sesshomaru picked up his cell phone, and speed-dialed his father.

"InuTaisho speaking."

"Father?"

"Sesshomaru! Where have you been? Your brother's been out looking for you!"

"Father, he just found me, that's part of the reason I'm calling."

"Oh? Then what's the other part?"

"I've decided to willingly go through with the engagement."

"......."

Sesshomaru laughed. "Yes, father, I have. And I've found my Fianceé. In fact, she's right here. Would you like to say hello to your future father-in-law, Kagome?"

"Hello, InuTaisho-sama. It's nice to....er...speak to you"

InuTaisho laughed. "You sound like a wonderful woman, Kagome. But please, call me dad."

"Alright...dad.^_^"

"Alright, well, Kagome, you should call your father and tell him that you've agreed to the marriage, too."

"I will, dad. Goodnight"

"Goodnight, Kagome."

"Father?"

"Yes, Sesshomaru?"

"I think....I understand now, why you divorced mom...."

".....thank you, Sesshomaru. That means more to me than you think."

"Goodnight, father"

"Goodnight, Sesshomaru"

*click*

"Hey, Kagome?" InuYasha spoke up, finally.

"Yes, InuYasha?"

"um......what's Kikyo like?"

Kagome laughed. "I think you'll like her."
