Holding Out for a Hero by yokoshima sama

Holding Out for a Hero

Holding Out for a Hero

// Where have all good men gone

And where are all the gods

Where's the street-wise Hercules

To fight the rising odds //

Kagome-Hime stood on her balcony, leaning against the rail. Her head held in her hands as she stared at the stars above. She sighed as she identified all the constellations. She sighed again as she closed her eyes and thought about her day. Her father had found more princes for her to choose from but they all were assholes. Only after her fathers money and land. She dismissed them all and ran back to her chambers. She just couldn't figure out where the princes of legend had gone to. The handsome nights and the human gods. The princes who saved damsels from danger. The men who slayed dragons and demons for their loves. The men who would carry her off into the sunset. She sighed again as she stared at the dark forest that surrounded her palace home.

// Isn't there a white knight

Upon a fiery steed

Late at night I toss and turn

And dream of what I need //

Where was her White Knight? Where was her Hercules? Where was her Prince Charming? Not there. A pout appeared on her face at that thought. Why did she not get a Knight in Shining Armor? Why was she stuck with arrogant, asshole princes who could care less about her. What did she do to deserve this? Apparently something bad. She sighed again as she imagined her perfect prince. He would be tall and handsome. He would have a deep sexy voice and be very muscular. He would actually care about her and would slay demons and dragons for her. He would love her and never leave her. When they met, he would carry her away on his horse into the sunset. Yes, he would be the perfect fairy tale prince. Her perfect fairy tale prince.

Kagome-Hime sighed as she returned to her room. She sat on her lavish bed as she remembered what her father had told her. She was going to marry a Prince her father had selected for her. She didn't even know who he was. She sighed as stood and changed into servants' cloths and packed a small bag of food, a canteen of water and some money. She then threw a rope over the railing of her balcony and tied the end to it. She then climbed down and ran into the forest. She ran until she couldn't see the palace anymore then stopped. She found a clearing to rest in for the rest of the night. She sat against a tree until something big entered. She looked on in horror as a large demon came toward her. She opened her mouth and screamed as it raised its claw bound hand to slice her in half. She closed her eyes and waited for the inevitable but it never came. She opened her eyes to see why.

// I need a hero

I'm holding out for a hero

Till the end of the night

He's gotta be strong

And he's gotta be fast

And he's gotta be fresh from the fight //

She saw a tall man standing before her, his back to her. He had long silver hair that glistened in the moon light. He wore black armor and black fighting cloths. On his right shoulder he wore a white boa. She looked around him to see the demon that had attacked her in pieces. She sighed, she was safe for now. She looked up to see the man turning toward her. It was then the demon regenerated and attacked again. Without turning to the demon, the man grabbed it by its throat and snapped its neck. Then, his finger tips began to glow neon green and the demon disintegrated. Her attention was back on the man. How did he do that? It was then she saw his face. He wore the markings of a TaiYoukai.

She backed herself against the tree and bit her lip to stop her scream. She was just saved from a demon by a demon. This made no sense. Her hands gripped the bark of the tree as the man stepped closer to her. She closed her eyes as she waited for the demon to kill her but he didn't. He merely traced the side of her face with his oh so deadly claws. She opened her eyes and stared at him. He seemed to be in deep thought. She loosened her grip on the tree and her breathing calmed. As she was about to speak, he spoke to her in a low, cold voice.

"What is a princess like you doing away from your palace?"

She said nothing as she watched him warily.

"Spoiled children shouldn't be in the woods, there's no one to cater to them. No one to protect them. They are easy targets."

"Then why did you save me?"

"I didn't do it intentionally, you just happen to be attacked by the demon I was chasing."

"You still saved me, whether you meant to or not, how can I repay you?"

"There is one thing I want."

"What ever it is you can have it if you let me go."

The demon before her stepped closer to her. She was pressed against the tree once again. Fear welled up within her at having a demon so close to her. She felt the hand that was tracing her face travel down to her throat. She stared into his golden eyes. They glowed like small suns. She felt his claws trace the back of her neck and felt shivers travel down her spine. She was then caught off guard when the demon placed his lips upon hers. She tried to fight but it felt so good. Then, she felt a pinch on the back of her neck. After, everything went black.

// I need a hero

I'm holding out for a hero

Till the morning light

He's gotta be sure

And it's gotta be soon

And he's gotta be larger than life //

Kagome-Hime groaned. The back of her neck hurt. She sat up to find herself back in her bed room. Sun light leaked through the balcony door window. She didn't understand. How had she gotten back to her room? She looked down to find herself in a lavish night gown. What happened to the cloths she had been wearing when she had run away? She came to the conclusion it was just a dream. That was until she saw the pack she had put together before she had run into the forest. She found a note attached to it. She read the note carefully.

"Princess,

Sorry about knocking you out but as I said, spoiled brats don't belong in the woods. Your neck will be sore for the next few days, my claws accidentally grazed the skin. By the way, you're welcome. Even though I didn't mean to save you.

SesshoMaru"

She couldn't believe that was real. She was saved and kissed by the most handsome man she had ever met. She placed the note in her special box, unpacked the bag and changed. She then walked out on to her balcony and stared at the forest. She wondered where SesshoMaru had gone to. Surely some one as beautiful as him had a palace of his own. It was then she remembered she was already going to marry someone. She hoped he was like SesshoMaru. She hoped he was tall, dark and handsome. Strong, courageous and would love her unconditionally. Though she highly doubted he was any of that. She could still dream right?

She left her room to find her father and have some food, she was starving. She searched the palace for almost an hour trying to find her father. she found him in the library, talking with another king. She opened the door and walked over to her father. he turned and smiled to her. She knew he was up to something. And more than likely, she wouldn't like it.

"Kagome, this is Taisho-Sama, he's your husbands father."

"It is a pleasure to meet you sir."

"The pleasure is mine Kagome-Hime. I would like you to meet my son. Where did he go?"

Just then, the doors behind her opened and some one stepped in.

"Ah, here he is. Kagome-Hime, this is my son, SesshoMaru-Ouji."

She turned to see a tall man around her age. He had long, midnight black hair, he had brown, almost black eyes and pale skin. He wore dark colored cloths and black armor. As far as she could remember, he looked just like that demon, except the hair and eye color. Also the Ouji that stood before her was human, not a TaiYoukai. After she got over her shock, she gave a slight bow. This was going to be interesting.

// Somewhere after midnight

In my wildest fantasy

Somewhere just beyond my reach

There's someone reaching back for me //

Kagome-Hime sighed as she stared at stars. Thoughts ran across her mind. She couldn't stop thinking about both SesshoMaru's she had met that day. The first was a demon. The other was to be her husband. She was so confused. Was it possible? There was that saying that everyone has a double. Could they be doubles? That had to be the answer. She continued to think on it until she heard the rustling of leaves. She looked down to see the demon SesshoMaru standing in the tree below her balcony. He stared up at her, his golden eyes glowing in the moon light.

"May I come up?"

She was momentarily stunned by his question. But soon found her voice.

"Yes."

She watched in wonder as SesshoMaru effortlessly jumped. She stepped away from the railing as he landed on it. He gracefully stepped off the rail and onto the balcony. He leaned against the railing, gazing at her with his golden eyes. His long silver hair shimmered in the light. He wore the same cloths as the last time she saw him. He gave her a smirk as she came out of her state of wonder. After a moment, she spoke.

"What are you doing here?"

"What? I can't visit the Princess I saved?"

"What? Yes! I mean, No! I mean, Why?"

"I felt like it."

"You shouldn't be here!"

"Why?"

"Cuz you just shouldn't be!"

"That's not a very good answer. I expected something better from a princess."

"What?"

"Never mind."

"Why are you really here?"

"I was nearby and thought I might stop by, considering there is nothing else to do."

"You should go now."

"What? Are you afraid that your little boyfriend will find us?"

"He's not my boyfriend! We are betrothed!"

"Same difference."

SesshoMaru stepped closer to Kagome. she backed away from him and right into a wall. Soon, she was trapped between the wall and SesshoMaru. His breath danced against her lips. Fear coursed through her veins. But it wasn't fear of him or the fact he could kill her. It was fear of what he could cause. She closed her eyes, afraid to look into his golden orbs. She felt his breath dace across her lips causing shivers to roll down her spine. Then, she felt his lips upon hers again. she tried to fight but surrendered, it felt too good. After a moment, they broke for air. She opened her eyes to see he was gone. She sighed as she realized it was past midnight. She walked back into her room without a second glance, closed and locked the balcony and went to sleep.

// Racing on the thunder

And rising with the heat

It's gonna take a Superman

To sweep me off my feet //

Kagome sat in the gardens with only one thing on her mind, Demon SesshoMaru. She didn't understand him. First he saves her and says it's by accident and then he comes to her balcony and kisses her. Men were truly confusing creatures. As she continued to think on the events of the night before, she was joined by another person. She didn't realize she had company until she felt a hand on her shoulder. She let out a small scream and jumped about an inch off the bench. She turned, her eyes wide in shock, to see SesshoMaru-Ouji. She instantly calmed down.

"I'm sorry if I frightened you, Kagome."

"It's alright, you just caught me off guard."

"That's good, may I join you?"

"Sure."

"Your home is so beautiful, much more than my palace."

"Really? I've never left this place."

"Why? Doesn't your father let you?"

"He let's me do whatever I want but I just feel safe here."

"I understand that feeling. If I may ask, what were you thinking about?"

"Oh, just the asshole princes my father wanted me to marry. I don't understand why men are only after money."

"They must have felt insecure about themselves."

"More than likely. I just wish I could meet my knight in shining armor."

"What do you mean?"

"I wish I had a fairy tale prince."

"A what?"

"A fairy tale prince. You've never heard a fairy tale?"

"I never had a mother to tell them to me."

"Neither did I but my father told them to me. he told me a princess should at least have a dream price if the one she marries turns out to be a total asshole."

"That's interesting."

Kagome and SesshoMaru-Ouji talked for hours about different things. They talked about each other, their hopes, goals and dreams for the future. They talked about hobbies and just about everything. After about two hours, both returned to the palace to get ready for dinner. Kagome had surprised herself, she had not once mentioned demon SesshoMaru when she was talking. She thought she would let that out but she didn't. She smiled as she changed into her dinner gown, unaware that she was being watched.

// Where the mountains

Meet the heavens above

Out where the lightning

Splits the sea

I would swear that there's

Someone somewhere

Watching me //

A wicked smirk appeared upon his face. He had it all planed perfectly, down to smallest portion. He was going to kidnap the Princess and as ransom, he would force her father to make her marry him. other wise he would kill her. She was the heir to the richest and largest kingdom in the land, he wanted that power for himself. He laughed a laugh that would make the devil shake in fear. By noon the next day, the kingdom would be his. He didn't worry about her betrothed, he was human and no threat to him. he prepared to go claim his prize.

"I, Naraku, will be the new demon king!"

// Through the wind

And the chill and the rain

And the storm and the flood

I can feel his approach

Like a fire in my blood //

Kagome-Hime felt an ominous presence behind her. She turned to see a tale, dark man standing behind her. She opened her mouth to speak when she felt a slimy tentacle wrap around her head to gag her. She felt another pair of tentacles wrap around her ankles and arms. It was then she began to struggle. Then, the tentacles began to produce a purple gas. Soon, she fell unconscious. The demon placed a note on the mirror as he jumped into the forest, carrying his prize.

SesshoMaru- Ouji had been sent to retrieve Kagome for dinner, she was late and her father was worried. He opened the door to see an empty room. Then, he spotted the note. He quickly left the room and went to his. He put on his black fighting cloths and armor. He grabbed his swords and ran to the stables. He got on his black stallion and rose like the wind, following the purple miasma trail to Kagome.

// I need a hero

I'm holding out for a hero

Till the morning light

He's gotta be sure

And it's gotta be soon

And he's gotta be larger than life //

Kagome awoke to find herself in a strange palace, chained to a wall and a slimy tentacle stroking her face. She remembered being kidnapped by a man but why? It was then it hit her, it was no man that kidnapped her, it was a demon. No man had tentacles. When her vision returned, she saw the demon. He had long black hair, white skin and red eyes. she winced when the tentacle touched her.

"Come now princess, by this time tomorrow, you will be mine."

"Who the hell are you!?"

"I am a very powerful demon named Naraku. I'm also very power hungry. Your father has power and I want it. And I will do anything to get it."

"SesshoMaru-Ouji will save me!"

"Fool, that human brat will die at my feet."

Just then, the doors burst open and SesshoMaru-Ouji stepped in, his sword drawn. He stared at Naraku with hate in his eyes. the vile demon smirked as he attacked the price with his tentacles. SesshoMaru-Ouji sliced at the on coming things but some managed to hit him. he groaned in pain as Miasma filled his wounds. Naraku laughed as SesshoMaru-Ouji collapsed on the ground. Naraku then turned back to Kagome.

"I told you, a human is no match for me."

"That maybe so,"

Naraku stared in shock as SesshoMaru-Ouji began to get up, leaning on his sword for support. The sky turned from bright orange, red and yellow to dark blue, purple and black. It was night fall. SesshoMaru-Ouji's body began to glow neon green as he stood straight. His hair turned silver, TaiYoukai markings appeared upon his face. his finger nails grew into long claws and a boa appeared upon his right shoulder. He opened his eyes, they had turned golden and glowed like little suns.

"But you should have killed me while you had the chance. Now that the sun is gone, I'm a demon once again."

// I need a hero

He's gotta be strong

And he's gotta be fast

And he's gotta be fresh from the fight //

Naraku attacked SesshoMaru but he easily dodged it. He stabbed the vile demon in the back with his demonic sword, Tokijin. Naraku cried out in agony as SesshoMaru slashed him to pieces with his toxic flower claws. The pieces of Naraku disintegrated as SesshoMaru freed Kagome from her chains. The moment she was free, she wrapped her arms around SesshoMaru's neck and gave him a hug. This solved her problem, now she didn't have to choose between SesshoMaru's, they were the same guy. This confused her but she would figure it out later. Kagome released SesshoMaru of her hug but looked at him questioningly.

"How?"

"I was cursed when I was born."

"Why?"

"My father had betrayed a witch."

"You're still the same guy, right?"

"Yes, no need to worry."

"Yay!"

SesshoMaru captured her lips in a kiss. It took her vary breath away. She leaned against his tall frame, her arms wrapped around his neck. His arms supported her by being wrapped around her waist. After they released the kiss, he picked her up and placed her on his horses' saddle. Climbing on in front of her, he grabbed the reins as she wrapped her arms around his waist. They then rose back to the palace. A smile appeared upon Kagome's face as she saw SesshoMaru in the light of the moon. His hair shimmered and his armor shined. His eyes glowed like melted gold. She just couldn't get enough of his beautiful image. She then sighed as she rested her head on his upper back and fell asleep.

// I need a hero //

Kagome-Hime had always wanted a fairy tale hero, and she found one in the most unlikely way.
