Winter Winds by Wolfen Blood

Prologue

*Feudal Japan 1084*

"Mother what is wrong?" said a little demon child as he ran though a darkened forest, holding his mother's hand. But now answer came, he could only hear the blood pounding loudly in his ears, and the angry curses and shouts coming from behind. He turned his head while still running, his silver tresses cascaded over his shoulder, and saw the flame of torches though, his golden eyes widening in horror, only to close them, as if it would erase this picture when he opened them again.

"Do not look back Sesshoumaru..." the sound of his mother's voice was barely audible over the loud noises that were steadily becoming louder. Her hand clutching her child's tightened its grip as she pulled Sesshoumaru though the forest, dodging any obstacles that crossed their path, desperately trying to escape what humans and half-breeds call death.

"Whats going on?" Sesshoumaru pleaded, but his mother remained silent. In an instant arrows began to wiz pass the mother and child, barely missing their skin, either sticking into the ground or trees.

Suddenly an arrow flew past Sesshoumaru face, grazing his cheek, leaving a trail of blood in its' wake, only to have it now embedded in his mother's back, blood slowly running from her wound. She stumbled a few more steps before falling to her knees. "Mother!" Sesshoumaru yelled, as he kneeled down next to his mother.

She smiled weakly, her ice blue eyes gazed into his golden ones, "Run..." she said, coughing up blood, her figure trembling," Run away from here and don't look back.... They don't care about you, you will be able to escape..... Go." using the last of her strength to push Sesshoumaru away from her. "Live well my son, prince of the Western Lands." and those were her final words before she left the world of the living.

Tears began to run down Sesshoumaru's pale face and onto the forest floor as he ran away, hearing the swinging of swords behind him

*200 years later*

Sesshoumaru sat in his room, looking out the window, watching the petals from the sakura blossom tree fall gently to the earth below. his long silver hair swayed in the gentle morning breeze, his long tail was wrapped around his right shoulder, the tip would go up then back down.

He was now a "teenager" in feudal Japan (he's around 558 years old, looks 15 in humen years) and would eventually be the Lord of the Western lands that were currently controlled by his father, The reigning Taiyoukai of the west.

The Demon Prince's heart hardened over the years, sealing away his feelings, after the tragic death of his mother, learning not to love only to enjoy the painful suffering of others.

There was a knock at the door, Sesshoumaru turned around, "Enter." he said a hint of annoyance could be heard in his voice. The servant slid the shoji screen door open and bowed his head while saying, " My prince, your father summons you to the great hall."

Sesshoumaru rose from his seat, and walked briskly over to the door, shoving aside the servant, who stumbled backwards. He closed his golden eyes, knowing the way by heart, as he walked down the hall, torches lighting the dark corridors. Torches.... that sight forever etched in his memory. He turned right and entered the great hall, opening his eyes to see his father, eyes narrowing when his gaze shifted from his father to a humen women sitting close to his father.

"You summoned me?" Sesshoumaru said dully.

"Hai Sesshoumaru," he paused for a second before beginning again, "I have decided to take a new mate, I know it hasn't been long since your mother was killed but I think its for the best."

"'The best'?!" Sesshoumaru yelled, "Do you even know what 'the best' is?! Dog demons mate for life you've just broken that bond!" his eyes began to have a red tint. "Do you think that this humen could ever replace my mother?! I watched my mother die from those wretched humens and their demon slaves perusing us and its all because of that humen!" His hand at his side clenched into fists, that were now glowing a greenish color. Opening his hand, Sesshoumaru cracked his knuckles, his claws now dripping poison, the acid burning hole into the polished floors. Turning around, he held up his hand, which sprayed an acid mist melting the wall. He grabbed a katana that was propped up against the part of the wall that was not burned, then walked out of the castle though his manmade door (or rather demon made) and into the forest that surrounded the castle.

Before completely disappearing Sesshoumaru growled, "I need to be alone"
