DISCLAIMER: *raises eyebrow and looks at readers as if they're crazy*

Summary: One-shot songfic of "Rabbiteen" by Jack Off Jill. CU

AN: The summary is pretty self-explanitory. I love listening to this band. And am doing so right now. It's just a different album that this song is on. Anyway, when I was listening to that album walking to school or something like that one day, I thought that this would be a perfect song to go along with a one-shot fanfic. So here's my 2nd-out fanfic, idea #30. Hee hee! ^.^

ch1: Rabbiteen

He said that he would stay forever,

Forever wasn't very long.

'He's gone.' her mind echoed at her repeatedly.

Kagome had woken up in Kaede's hut the day after they had defeated Naraku to find herself freezing. She had reached for Sesshoumaru's tail, hazily thinking that it had fallen off somehow, but it wasn't there. The warmth that was the Taiyoukai was gone as well. That woke her up as quickly as if a bucket of freezing water had been poured over her head.

He said that he would take the high road,

He thought that I was always wrong.

She hurried to the door and looked westwards at the sky. There was a light speck far, far away but, she knew it couldn't be her love. And although she didn't know it, he was sitting in the tree above her head, watching her with his face melted into an expression of sadness and longing. A lone tear slipped down his cheek onto Kagome's. Just as she looked up, the clouds in the sky broke, pouring water over the fragile girl. She shivered and Seshsoumaru grimaced, his youki howling at her discomfort. He watched her as she relentlessly searched for him, calling out his name, all the while getting soaked as the one she was searching for let his heart break into a million shattered pieces for the pain he was causing his love to go through. But he knew that they could never be together. It wasn't that he didn't want to stay with her, no, he wanted to stay with her forever but, he would live while she died. He couldn't stand it. His heart hurt so much and his youki wasn't helping the pain either--in fact, it was only making the pain of letting her go even worse.

Cause when he lied it meant he loved me,

And when he lied it meant he cared.

And when he lied it meant he loved me,

Cause when he lied it meant that he was there.

When Sesshoumaru had joined their group, Kagome was ecstatic. Finally, a chance to meet the enigmatic youkai lord! While he was with him, she was constantly by his side, studying him, attempting to engage him in conversation, and had even gone so far as to sit on him once when he had ignored her for over an hour straight. She had plopped down into his lap and demanded that he talk to her and telling him how rude he was being which only served to get an icy glare. When Inuyasha had noticed what his best friend was doing, his face turned white as he zipped over to her and threw her over his shoulder, all the while babbling about it time for her to go cook their evening meal. After the first month, Kagome had done such a good job at warming him up, he would have whole converstations with her. THe only problem was that he would talk to her and ONLY her. If talked to anyone else, it was a short, clipped command or tart insult, the latter usually directed at only Inuyasha.

He said that he would go his own way,

Wrapped up my leg and down my spine.

During their time together, he had become extremely over-protective. She knew he couldn't help it, it was just in his nature but, sometimes it was over the top. Although, she loved the way his tail wrapped around any part of her when anyone looked at her too long. Even when Shippou looked at her for a certain amount of time, Sesshoumaru would wrap his tail around her as if to say, "She's mine. Don't touch." His nature got a little annoying at times, though. He was even worse than Inuyasha when she wanted to go home! She didn't know how he managed to be worse than her best friend but, he did.

He said that he would be the fairest,

Drenched in blood and turpentine.

One night, much like this one, she had woken up to find Sesshomaru gone. She didn't have to open her eyes to know that either. Since the first day he had joined, his tail had a tendency to end up wrapped protectivley around her fragile body. That night, after he had proclaimed that he was going to stay with their group, she had woken to find that his tail was wrapped firmly around her body (it was a warm summer and she had foregorn her sleeping bag for a thin blanket). She had blinked at it for a full five minutes before it finally sunk in that Sesshoumaru's tail was wrapped tightly and firmly about her waist. She poked it to get it off and it twitched loose. She cheered silently at her victory, but then his tail tightened more than it had been before. She scowled at it. The girl decided to take a more direct approach. Instead of poking the tail, she poked the demon. He turned towards her and gave her an icy look. She pointed at his tail around her waist. It loosened and wrapped back around the demon lord instead. He never stopped looking at her the entire time. She stuck her tongue out at him and then rolled over and fell back asleep. When she woke up the next morning, she was annoyed to find that his tail was right back where it had been found that night. Of course, Sesshoumaru had removed it before anyone had noticed. The same happened every night. No matter how far away she slept from him, the white, fluffy object always found its way around her waist. After a week, she gave up and slept next to Sesshoumaru that night. That simple action got her many strange looks; she ignored them. The next morning, his tail was wrapped around her waist as predicted, but now, she was sitting in his lap. Her entire body slumped in defeat.

When Sesshomaru had woken, he was slightly startled and unerved to find a piercing blue gaze watching him, and at such a close range as well. He blinked and realised that there was a girl sitting on his lap. And it was Kagome no less. She looked extremely impatient and as soon as he opened his eyes she opened her bright, plump lips. What came out was anything but pleasant.

"Are you going to let me go yet?" she asked quietly yet crossly so as not to wake the others. He blinked at her and then looked down at her to find his tail once again tightly wrapped around her waist and that it had planted her firmly in his lap. Scowled and made his tail unwrap itself and pushed her off. She stuck her tongue out at him again.

But that night, when she had found him gone, she had gone to go look for him. He had come back after a while, completely soaked in blood.

"Sesshoumaru?" she had whispered fearfully. He paused to look at her then changed his pattern till he was walking towards her. She resisted the urge to back away from the feral gleam in his eyes. He started walking towards her. Her eyes grew really wide as he reached her. His eyes glowed as he grabbed her upper arms and pressed his lips to hers. His tongue swept in and she soon forgot the blood. They kissed, unaware of anything but one another.

"I love you," came the whisper as she opened her eyes. He had gone and she went back into the hut and fell back asleep. She woke up in his lap and extremely warm once again. His words echoed through her head as she whispered them into the shell of his ear before settling back.

Cause when he lied it meant he loved me,

And when he lied it maent he cared.

And when he lied it meant he loved me,

Cause when he lied it meant that he was there.

So, why had he left? He told her that he had loved her and then he turns around and leaves? Had she done something wrong? Why had he left?

Kagome's friends watched the girl torture herself day after day. And they couldn't stand it any longer. Finally, after a month where she showed no improvement, they had to send her home. Inuyasha visited every day on a regular basis for another month but finally, he had to stop going. She was improving so slowly that it pained her best friend to see her that way. So much, he couldn't see her that way and had to leave.

On the day that he had left, he hugged her tightly to him and quietly spoke the words, "I love you," into her ear. He went to leave but, she wouldn't let go.

"I love you, too, Inuyasha," she replied even quieter. He looked into her eyes and she leaned forward.

"Kagome....please, don't do this," he pleaded, his ears flat to his school. "I don't want you to do this because of-"

"Inuyasha," she interuppted firmly. "It's not because of Sesshoumaru. You were my first love. I've always wanted to kiss you but, I knew that you'd never love me the way that I love you."

"That's not true!" he exclaimed, startling Kagome enough to make her look undepressed for a moment. "I've always loved you! I just....I could never pick between you and Kikyo. If I picked one, I'd break one of your hearts and I just couldn't do that."

Kagome blinked. She never really knew what went on in Inuyasha's head but, now that she knew, it was too late. "I wish that I had known that sooner," she laughed. It made Iuyasha cringe because it was bitter and full of lost hopes and irony.

"One last request, Inuyasha," she pleaded. He gave her a strange look but, then it seemed as if he understood what she was going to ask and nodded slowly. "Please, kiss me." Her eyes were large and begging. "It's not because of Sesshoumaru," she said quickly before Inuyasha could speak. "I've always wanted to kiss you. You were my first true love. I still love you but, it's not because as powerful as it used to be. So please, kiss me. Just, let us pretend that Kikyo didn't come back to life and Sesshoumaru and I never fell in love. Please."

The hanyou didn't answer with words. He just leaned into her and kissed her. Both teens kissing away lost hopes and deams. While he kissed his best and first true friend, he slid his body on top of hers and then over to the side so his back was to the wall and held her frail body close to his own. When they had finally let go of one another, Kagome just clung to the front of haori and buried her face in his chest.

"Will you stay with me tonight, Inuyasha?" the emotionally disturbed girl asked. Inuyasha went to answer only to find that she had fallen asleep due to exhaustion. He answered any way.

"Forever with you, my little miko," he replied and kissed the top of her head before he, too, fell asleep. he had gone before she had woken the next morning, her head filled with the "I love you"s he had whispered into her ear all night.

I'm never going back I don't care what he said,

I wish he could see the hate in my head.

I'm never going back I don't care what he said,

It had been a year since Sesshoumaru's disappearance. The day after Inuyasha stopped coming, she enrolled in college just in time to get into it. It was a basic, four-year college, not too expensive and with a nice campus to go with it. On the anniversary, her mythology class was taking a field trip to an old castle where one of the legends had stemmed from.

"Higurashi!" came the loud shout of her teacher taking inventory of his students.

"Hai!" she called over the crowd of students in front of her. She ignored the rest of the names except when a "Nishi" was called out. 'west' she thought absentmindedly. She looked for the student but, it didn't help that she had never seen them before either. And even though she never paid attention to others in class, she was sure that this "Nishi" was a newbie, someone who had just gotten to the class.

"Ok, class! Pay attention because there are a LOT of valuable things in here and none of them need to be broken. The owner of this castle has graciously allowed this class ONLY to explore its depths," once again came the teacher's loud voice. He had a REALLY loud voice. She guessed that he had been in the military for a while but, he was still in his 20s so, it was hard to tell.

"What are we, an archeology class?" one of the students remarked sarcastically. The class laughed and the teacher smiled.

"Haha. Now get your funny butts inside. We've got a LOT of ground to cover. This place is HUGE!" he exclaimed.

He said that he would tell no secrets,

He said that he would never lie.

Kagome finally looked up at the building in front of her for the first time. Well, the first time in this era. She gasped. It was Sesshoumaru's palace! Sure, she'd only seen it once but, she'd remembered all of the crescent moons every where. Was he still alive? Millions of questions zoomed through her mind, but they stopped once she stepped inside. It looked exactly as she had remembered and it was still as spotless as it had been 500 years ago.

"First, we go to the libray!" came the call of her proffesor. When they got there, he threw open the doors dramatically. The inside looked just as she remembered it as well except for a few minor changes. There had been a considerable amount of books added to the collection which was a given and the windows were wide open as well as the curtains. That perticular arguement had taken a whole hour to persuade Sesshoumaru that he should leave the library curtains open. She smiled.

"Now, the room next to this one, is the one the lord of the estate occupied the most after he had to leave his lover. The legend goes that, 500 years ago, a hanyou was pinned to a tree by a priestess. A strange girl came and broke the spell that had bound the boy to the tree for 50 years. It was said that she came from this time. The two had many adventures together and during them, the gained a few more companions: a young, orphaned kitsune youkia, then a lecherous monk, and finally a taijiya and her pet neko youkai. It was during that time that an evil hayou came to power. Months before the final battle with this evil hanyou, the lord of this estate as well as the western lands, joined this grou. He was a inu youkai and half-brother to the hanyou. During his stay with this group, the demon lord and the strange girl from the future fell in love. It was said that she had been taken to this castle for a visit and the library was her most avorite place that, she insisted in staying in the room next to it. But because she was human and he was youkai, she would grow old and die and he would stay young untill he was killed. He had to leave her and spent the rest of his days living in the room she had stayed in and researching ways to make his love grow immortal. That room is the one that we're going to visit next." Nobody noticed the stray tears that had escaped their prison and had fallen down her cheeks as the teacher turned and opened the door and walked in. The students followed him like baby chicks following a mother hen. But the following soon slowed and everyone was staring at Kagome.

"What?" she asked tentilvely. The students parted like she was Moses and they the Red Sea. Then she noticed what they had all been staring at. The walls were covered in paintings of her.

He said that he would spring eternal,

He said that we would never die.

She sank to her knees in front of the largest one. It was the one of the day when she had visited. She had been sitting in the window seat in the library, reading to Shippou, Rin, and Kirara. It was only after she had finished the book that she had looked up to find a demon sitting a little ways off from them, his eyebrows drawn in concentration as whatever-he-was-holding scraped wildly acrosst the canvas in front of him. She got up and went to look at what he was doing. It was an image of what she had just been doing with one difference: Sesshoumaru was in the picture, too, and she was sitting on his lap. His eyes were closed, his head was resting on her shoulder, and his arms and tail were wrapped protectively around her. the children were sitting right next to each other and Kirara was sitting between them on their laps and they had their hands on her as if the were petting her. The artist finished with a flourish and Kagome let out the breath she didn't know she was holding.

"It's beautiful," she had said softly. "You're a very good artist." The youkai only bowed to her and then left with the painting.

Kagome started crying as her hand slowly traced the demon lord. Several of the students felt their hearts pain for the girl and her friends rushed towards her, holding her, and trying to comfort her, all the while asking what was wrong. Suddenly, the tears stopped and she turned around. The students stepped back. her face was more pale than the clothes of the man in the painting and her eyes were wide and haunting. When she walked out of the room, she didn't speak and looked very mush like a ghost. The class looked at the teacher who was frowning. A silky voice came out of no where.

"I'll take care of her, sensei. I know her better than any one." the teacher blinked and looked for the voice. A shadow slipped out the door and he looked at his students. It didn't look as if any of them knew anything so, he continued the tour.

Cause when he lied it meant he loved me,

And when he lied it maent he cared.

And when he lied it meant he loved me,

Cause when he cried it meant he cared.

'He moved into that room after he left me? Why would he do that? I thought he hated me?' the girl thought dispairingly. 'And how did he get all of those painings done? What happened a year ago!?' She couldn't stand it any more. She started to run. She ran and ran and ran, out of the castle, through traffic of cars and people till she reached her home, but never stopped till she was at the well. She tried to jump in. It wouldn't work. She kept trying and trying and trying and trying untill she lay at the bottom of the well, bruised, broken, and crying. A shadow appeared at the top of the well and a gasp was heard.

"Kagome...."

Cause when he lied it meant he loved me,

And when he lied it maent he cared.

And when he lied it meant he loved me,

Cause when he lied it meant that

He was,

He was,

He was,

He was there.

She woke up. It was warm and she was covered by a blanket. When she tried to move, she found that all of her injuries had been healed. She opened her eyes and looked around. Why was this room familiar? Then she noticed a shadow lurking in the corner of the room and she skooted back a little bit.

"Please, don't do that," came a soft voice. It was so familiar and she melted at the sound of it. Then, everything snapped into place and she bolted up right.

"Sesshoumaru!?" she exclaimed incredously. The shadow stepped forward and a wave of warmth washed over her. It was him!

Then she froze. Where was she? And why was Sesshoumaru here? Didn't he hate her? the demon lord must have sensed her hasty change in aura because his shot down.

"Kagome...." he said softly, his voice eriely melancholy. He couldn't stand not being with her any more. Without warning, he was at her side. He slid his body on top of hers and pressed his lips to hers, sweeping his tongue in. His entire body relaxed now that it had what was its once again. At first, kagome was so shcked that she just lay there. Then, her body took action: her eyes closed as her arms wrapped around his neck. Sesshoumaru responded by wrapping his arms and tail firmly around her waist. When she ran out of breath, the parted and he crushed her body to his.

"Every moment without you was hell, Kagome," he whispered into her ear, the warm breath causing her to shiver. "I couldn't stand it." He nuzzled her neck, just glad that she was with him once again.

"Then why did you leave me?" she asked, her voice desperate. His warm breath fanned across her slim neck and he swept his tongue across it, making her shiver again.

"Because you would die, and I would live, and I couldn't stand that happening. But being away from you was even worse. But you were already gone. After that, I started searching for a way that we could always be together. And I found one."

Kagome froze. "You found one?" she managed to breathe out. He smile against her neck.

"Yes. It is a north of here. The drinker of the spring will automatically become immortal and if two lovers drink the water at the same time, they shall live only as long as their lover. Do you want to do that?" His voice had suddenly become very quiet, patient, and understanding. "Doing so would mean that we would always be together but, while you live, your friends and family will die." He looked up at her and saw that her eyes were staring ahead blankly. "Kagome?" he asked, concerned.

"I'll do it," she said suddenly. She looked down at him. "Forever with you, m'lord." Then, she leaned down and kissed him. When her breath ran out, she got up and turned to leave, but a fluffy object wrapped tightly around her waist greatly hindered this action. She turned to look at Sesshoumaru to ask him to let go, but it was then that she saw the gleam in his eyes.

"You think that you're just going to leave after a few kisses? I've been without you for 500 years and you think that you're going to leave after you kissed me a few times?" Kagome suddenly looked somewhat afraid as Sesshoumaru's tail picked her up and dragged her back to him and under the covers.

"Sesshoumaru...." she began hesitantly.

"Don't be afraid, Kagome. I won't hurt you. Trust me, please. I love you and I want you. Now that I know that we're together again, and where you are, I can't stand not being together. I want to do this with your consent because my youki will take over if we don't do this soon and it might hurt you. It loves you but, I just don't want to chance it. I want you so bad, Kagome," he pleaded softly, looking her straight in her eyes.

She wrapped her arms around his nck and pulled him down into her and they kissed. As they did so, she grabbed his hand and slid it down the front of her skirt and under her underwear. He stopped kissing her and looked at her.

"Kagome-"

"Just love me, as I will love you," she whispered. He smiled and descended on her once again. The pair loved all night long. The next day, they both drank from the Eternal Spring. Together, the faced many obstacles, but their love never wavered and even when the world ended, they stayed together in the after-life, where they rejoined with all of their friends. All of them, together, forever.
