Chapter 1 – An Organized Marriage

A letter from the neighboring land has sent him a letter for ally support. This took his to surprise that why would any human think him, the great Lord Inutaishou's son, Sesshoumaru, would take a human wife as a contract? Yet their proposal was very useful. 'Seems like they are really keen to have me as their ally and their offer isn't a bad one either, the weapons would be needed for his 'human' armies. Only a few numbers were youkai soldiers since that the ones that are more powerful would be on their own trying to fight to their own glory.

~~~ the letter ~~~
We are eager for you support here in the Eastern lands as the Northern and Southern Lands are raiding us. Please consider our offer, our land appreciates you this day.
Akunza Higarashi
'Well...well...much thinking is needed...letting my son marry a girl, a completely he doesn't know and a human! Hm...'
~~*~~*~*~~*~~
"No father!!!! I don't want to marry a complete stranger!!! And I have to live and obey him for the rest of my life!! I mean, if I marry someone, I would marry someone I love and trust!!" Kagome shouted her father. It's just an impossible idea!! She doesn't know that person, heard he was a really cruel man, well...youkai and there is no way she was going to be marrying a stranger.
"Please darling, we have thought over this a lot. Just think about it, thousand of lives could be saved if you do marry him, that is if the Western Lord wishes." Her mother defended her husband's view.
"Do you think I would want to send my daughter of to marry someone who she doesn't like? It's more harder for the parents than the daughter to endure!" Akunza Moto said. "A marriage is for life, and would do anything for my daughter to marry to a good and caring family and of course the one she loves." Kagome was touched. "Please this is for the sake of the land." (AN: not the Japanese drink sake but SAKE!!)
"I understand..." Kagome said, now very confused. "Please...I want to sleep now...may I?" she asked her father.
"Of course."
It's been in her mind the whole night, she just could fall asleep in till late in the morning. This decision would seal her fate for the rest of her life, wanting to help her adopted parents who have been soo good to her and her so called brother too and their country, yet not really wanting to marry a stranger.
Come sun up, and the whole household was busy with morning chores. Kagome got up and didn't wait till the servants come. After a long night of decision-making, she had her answer, so she went to her father's study.
"Father."
"Ah, Kagome...so, how did you sleep?" he asked.
"With lots of thoughts in my mind." Kagome told her father, rather calmly.
"Oh..."
"And I have decided to marry the Lord Inutaishou's son if he wishes for the ally contract." She informed him.
"Kagome." It was her mother. There were tears in her eye of both sad and happiness. Now they were just waiting for the reply letter.
Two weeks later, a letter arrived from Lord Inutaishou to confirm the contract of ally support and the Kagome's future was decided.
On the day of the wedding, everyone was up early except Kagome.
"My lady! It be time!!! You must wake up!" A servant told her.
"Please, just let me sleep a while longer, this will be the last time I will be sleeping here." Kagome mumbled out. The servant understood and walked out. Now alone in her room, she got a small box and went around the room to put things she wants to take with her to her new home. The jewellery her mother had given her, some music scores, and anything that was small.
"Oh my lady, you're up. It's time to get you dressed for your wedding." The servants said and more servants came in and brought in all the things.
'If I do this, many people's lives could be saved, this is worth it and I will not regret.' Kagome told herself, to remind her why she was willing to marry to a complete stranger.
After they had dressed Kagome up it was time for the hair do up. It was tied into a bun at the back of the head, a strand of hair braided and raped around the top of the head like a headband. In between braid every now and then, a crystal jewel clip was added. The fringe was left out and a small lock of hair behind the ears. (AN: a look that is very much like a married woman. – just to let you know, I got this image of Kagome from how the Chinese women were when they are married but of course she won't be in a bun the whole time through out this story...^^). Her was eyes were of red eye shadow lightly added and slightly gold on top of that. The kimono was made of the softest and smoothest silk available (AN: well a do reckon satin is smoother but they don't have that then now do they? ^^) and red in colour and a ivory inner robe with sakura, the symbol that represents the Eastern lands because they grow the best in the land, were embroidered and so were the Inuyoukai symbol. Obon was also ivory but more gold in colour and white embroidery lightly sewn on to the fabric so that you can just see the picture.
"Come my lady, you look absolutely gorgeous. You husband-to-be will surely fall for you the instant he sees you."
"I think not," Kagome replied with a slight sad tone in her voice. "But this be the road I chose and I will not regret it."
They arrived at the Western Castle. The gates were drew open and the small carriage that Kagome sat in went in first followed by the rest of the party.
"Welcome to the Western Lands. May the bride please come out of the carriage." A closely trusted servant said. Kagome got out of the carriage, head covered by a red cloth.
"Come across the path, the Inuyoukai Path of Flame." As these words were spoken, more servants came out and laid out this little road like thing on the ground and wine at the side. Kagome walk to the tiny road.
"Light the fires!" and the servants took a match, lit it and threw it into to wine and it burst into flames. Crowds from villages to attend to their Lord's eldest son's wedding stood cheered Kagome on to cross the 'road' of the Inuyoukai flames to the Western Land Lords family. Kagome mind was working quickly, 'How am I suppose to pass this thing? It's too small to walk on!' then it clicked her. She bit on fabric that was covering her face and put two clips behind her head to hold the fabric down; then she held her hands up and did cart wheels across the tiny pathway. From time to time she would stand still to keep the bottom of the Kimono down towards her feet. The crowds cheered louder and finally she made it past the Path of Flame.
'This human girl be more clever than I though' thought Inutaishou. The fire immediately stopped so that the rest of the Eastern Land's party could come across. Kagome took the clips out to leave the fabric fall normally. The formal occasion proceed, and Kagome's party of her parents and relatives and close trusted knights followed, the rest wait out of the fortress. The Sesshoumaru got the first gimps of his bride.
'Those pathetic humans, I hope isn't as stink as they are. Man! I'll have to put up with it all night, but that is the case then I'll just have to sleep in my study.' Sesshoumaru thought to himself. His mother, Lady Yukomo, Sesshoumaru's mother, knew what her son was thinking, but she wasn't really that not fond of humans, she thinks that her daughter-in-law would be a rather nice girl. The ceremony continued and went rather smoothly. The evening came, and the wedding dinner was served. Kagome was rather tried but did not want to go to sleep yet, she didn't even get to know whether she can sleep or not! But she stayed a while longer. It will be a long time before she would see her family again.
After hearing her mother's last words, Kagome decided to finally retire to sleep. When she apologized to her guests that she is too tired to continue for the night so she bid them good night, whistles were heard all over the room, poor Kagome can only ignore it and blush every very lightly and went to the bedchambers where she can rest.
Sesshoumaru came in not much later after Kagome took her leave, his guest with his parents, not wanting to talk about this wedding any longer. It was completely out his option. All he knew was that he bound to be married to a complete stranger girl, a human girl that is! What was his father thinking? But to think about it, she doesn't look to bad, her dark blue eyes, and long black hair, she doesn't really smell that bad unlike the others, she smells more...sweet- no! What am I thinking?! A human girl? Smell sweet? I must have drunk too much wine today. As he walked into his room, the girl's scent was everywhere; he ignored it and walked into the wardrobe and changed into his sleeping garments. He noticed that his wife was sleeping to one side of the futon.
He went on the bed, Kagome continued to pretend to be sleeping with her fingers crossed, and Sesshoumaru took hold of her waist and turned her around to face him.
"Why did you agree to the marriage contract?" Kagome ignored him and looked away. "I demand an answer!'
"Because for the sake of my people and my land. Sacrificing myself to save thousands of people is better than saving just one. Now if you have no more questions, I would like to sleep." Sesshoumaru let go of her and rolled on to one side, opposite Kagome and the both fell asleep.
Next Morning, Kagome woke up to find herself in to bed only, 'Sesshoumaru must have already woke up.' She thought. A knock at the door was heard.
"Come in" Kagome said. A servant girl a few years younger than Kagome can in. She had her black hair tied up in a ponytail, and had haze coloured eyes.
"Good morning mistress, I am your appointed servant and my name is Luna."
"Hello Luna, nice to meet you. So, what am I suppose to do now? I have completely no idea." Kagome gave a lose laugh.
"Well to what I know, you should go and have breakfast, then His Lord's wife wishes to see you."
"Well, then, lets go and get changed and then have breakfast."
"I'll help." Luna said.
Round and round the castle, finally, the reached the dinning room. There sat Lord Inutaishou, Sesshoumaru, his younger brother, Inuyasha and their mother, Lady Yumoko.
"Good morning my Lords, Lady." Kagome said bowing. The kimono she wore was one that she brought a long with her. It was navy-blue at a mid-tone with orange decorations and pictures on it. Her hair tied at the end of the pony tai and to very detailed done buns to show that she was a married woman.
"Good morning dear child, come and have a seat." Lady Yumoko said with a smile, however, Inutaishou and Sesshoumaru remain silent and said nothing, not even a smile, but Inuyasha gave her a smile, which Kagome return with a smile too. Kagome ignored this and sat down in between Lady Yumoko and Sesshoumaru. Lord Inutaishou's sons left shortly after Kagome came in. Lady Yukomo came forward to speak to Kagome.
"My dear daughter-in-law, how you think of us?" she asked.
"Well, I've never been with a family of youkai before and I them rather cold, maybe except Inuyasha." Kagome replied. Yumoko laughed at this.
"You're very at observing people." Yumoko commented. "Please ignore my son and husband, they rather like to think that they are superior beings than others."
"Oh...so they think that a human is worth nothing?" Kagome asked, she had heard of that demons always thought themselves better than humans and treat them like dirt, the thought of it made her shiver and of course, Yukomo noticed and laughed again.
"Don't worry dear, they won't harm you as long as I live and that is still a few centuries." Kagome, unsure what to do just nodded with an awe facial expression. "Anyway, after women are married in the higher class, we usually have nothing to do so what would you like to do?"
"I think I want to know this place a bit more first, I don't want to get lost in here." Kagome said with a slight smile.
"Well then, we'll start on that shall we?" Yumoko said.
The next two weeks past like the wind, and Kagome has become used to the new environment and the cold stares from her husband and father-in-law. Yumoko and Luna was now Kagome's most trusted friends, even thought Yumoko is her mother-in-law.
The sun was setting and the two married women and maid was sitting in the garden, Yumoko and Kagome both playing the harp, playing a duet, the harmonies' clashes were for good to hear. In the castle, a room next to the garden was where Sesshoumaru and his father and brother were working. a new piece started and the first to notice this was Sesshoumaru, he had heard every piece played by his mother, this one must be one of her new songs she had written or something.
"Do you hear that?" Inuyasha asked his father and brother.
Not lifting their head, Sesshoumaru said, "Yes."
"Don't you think is sounds nice at all?"
"Well, my dear son, if you must know, yes. Your mother never plays anything sounding bad does she? And also we are working, and there are more papers to do if you have finished." Just then, there was a knock at the door. "Enter." Inutaishou said. Luna came in.
"My Lords, your Lady has you all to join her in the garden for a sort afternoon tea."
'Not this again, we do have so much to do.' Sesshoumaru thought
"Lovely idea! Why not father? A sort break would do us good; we've been sitting around for three hours! We need to stretch a bit."
"Why not." Inutaishou agreed.
'Oh bother...'
Out in the garden, Yumoko and Kagome sat in front of their own instrument.
"Well my Lord," Yumoko began and went forward to him. Kagome who was tuning her koto again since they go out of tune so easily when the temperature changes, and just then, a gust of breezy wind just sweeped past. It picked up her long black fine hair and brushed across her face. Kagome shook her head to get the hair out of her face and used her hand to put it behind her ear.
"Hello Kagome!!" It was Inuyasha.
"My Lord." Kagome said with a bow.
"Oh, you don't have to do that, really." Inuyasha told her. Kagome got up to get Sesshoumaru some things to eat and drink.
"Well, my husband, would you like to try these food? They taste quite nice." Yumoko said to Inutaishou as Kagome brought out some food and Luna following behind with the drinks. Kagome gave Inutaishou and Yumoko a plate of food. Inutaishou tried the food.
"Um...very nice! What is it? It's nice and sweet." He commented. Yumoko didn't reply.
"Oh it's delicious!!" Inuyasha shouted out with glee. Even Sesshoumaru raised his eyebrow when he tasted. Kagome retreated in to the kitchen to put the tray away.
"Where did you get this?" Inutaishou asked his wife.
"Well...I made it."
"Really mother, your skills are always improving day by day." Sesshoumaru commented though he did not smile.
"Thanks dear." Yumoko smiled.
"Mum, can you make this very day?" Inuyasha said who was eating the food as fast as he could.
"Stop doing that brother, or you'll choke to death." Sesshoumaru said coldly.
"Geez Sesshoumaru, have some fun in you life man," Inuyasha noted. "You're always too serious even when it time when you don't need to be."
"Now there Inuyasha, you always need to be serious," Inutaishou told his son and Sesshoumaru smirked. "Only at a different attitude of course so you are half right. Sesshoumaru, you should let yourself have some rest." Everyone laughed at this and Sesshoumaru gave in and laughed along. "So my lovely wife, when are you going to me us more of this wonderful food?"
"Well, when I have learnt it well enough." Yumoko said.
"Oh~ then how did you know how to make this?" Sesshoumaru asked his mother.
"Oh, you kind wife taught me," At this Inutaishou and Sesshoumaru became very quite.
"Wow! She soo good at cooking..." Inuyasha said then turned silent when his father and brother stared at him.
"And she was the one who was playing the koto just then. She composed it when she was ten! That girl, she is so nice and talented. You just ______ things you have in front of you." Yumoko said to Sesshoumaru who rolled his eyes.
"Go get Kagome will you? And tell her to bring her koto." Yumoko said to one of her maids. Kagome came to the garden with her instrument and put it down gently on the floor.
"My Lords." She bowed. "Did you call for me my lady?"
"Yes. Kagome, why don't you play some of you work to them? Or make anything up." Yumoko told her with a wink. Feeling a bit uneasy, Kagome agreed.
"As you wish my lady."
The tune that was heard earlier on, once again filled the ears of the Inuyoukai family. Inuyasha sat there enjoying it while Sesshoumaru sat staring coldly at Kagome. Kagome, of course, saw that but ignore the glare from her 'husband' since the day after the wedding to now.
No liking the thought that the human could be so talented?
By the next piece, Yumoko and Kagome were playing a duet. Inuyasha enjoying the whole thing, Inutaishou just listened as if only his wife was playing and Sesshoumaru, was really annoyed.
"Father, may I please return to my work now?" he asked. His father nodded.
"We should returned to our work now, thank you for your playing." He said, only looking at his wife.
"May I leave now my lady?" Kagome asked as she bowed down with manners.
"Can you wait for me for a sec? I have something I want to discuss with you."
"As you wish."
Sesshoumaru, his father and brother walked back to their study.
"Kagome," she said when the males where out of ear shot "Can you teach more of your cooking recipes? For dinner tonight?"
"Sure, I think you're getting hook into doing that." Kagome smiled.
Dinner was served and the food was smelling good.
"So mum, why so interested in this cooking business?" Inuyasha said as he began to eat and placed the food inside his mouth. "Woah! This is excellent mum!"
Yumoko grinned 'Looks like I should learn more from Kagome, he seems to like these things lots...'
Inutaishou was eating too and definitely like the meals he was having. As for Sesshoumaru...the emotionless expression was always there.
"Well, I will cook dinner from now on if you like..." Yumoko said, winking to Kagome who was thinking...'oh no!' raised her eyebrow slightly and was unnoticed.
Everything for the rest of the week as delicious and was enjoyed by everyone, but poor Kagome, was very busy! She went her and there to look for the perfect herbs, in the market and the mountains and was ALONE since that Yumoko had to stay inside the castle. Yet when she arrived back at the castle on a Sunday afternoon, sweating hot and was tried from all the walking all over the town and the mountain near by. But was totally surprise when Sesshoumaru showed up waiting for her at the front gate.
"Where have you been?" he asked her coldly staring straight into her eyes.
'His eyes would be soo beautiful without the coldness in them...' Kagome thought to herself. "I just went to the mountains to pick some herbs." She informed him and walked on but Sesshoumaru stopped her again.
"Why didn't you just get it from the market? And you weren't suppose to go out of the castle area."
"Well, first thing, wouldn't it be nice if I died? Then you won't have a human as your wife, and also, they don't sell the herbs I got in the market, I've tried looking for them."
Sesshoumaru just looked at his wife with no emotion. 'So filthy humans...' he thought as he saw the mud stains at the hem of her kimono.
"You know, I think you would be much nicer if you had so cheery mood in you." Kagome said as she walked towards the kitchen. Sesshoumaru was rolling his eyes around and he followed Kagome.
'Hm...how strange for him to follow me...'
"Next time when you go out, you must ask me for permission first, those are the rules." And he walked away. Kagome was just there making a face behind Sesshoumaru's back. <(–. ~)> 'Why does he always act like that?'
