Requiem of the Fallen

Chapter One: Requiem of the Fallen

The Sengoku Jidai, the Warring Era of Feudal Japan. A time when farmer picked up a sword to protect their lord and villages while youkai roam the Earth freely. This is the age of samurai, ninja and all-out war.

Slashing and clashing of ragging swords can be heard in the distance as youkai and ningen alike spill blood on the battlefield while three youkai and one ningen were surrounded by billions of lesser youkai and ningen. A taunting smirk appeared on the male youkai's face while his amber eyes glimmer with excitement.

"Hey Taisho-sama, how are we getting out of this one, ne?" asked a female youkai which appeared to be a kitsune youkai from her black ears and the seven tails that started to appeared on her back.

"Kuroi, you should know me by now since you're basically an old hag." Inutaisho taunted teasingly while he felt Kuroi's youki flaring up sine he called her 'an old hag'. He chuckled a bit and added, "I was just joking, Kuroi." Kuoi mumbled something about stupid inu males and their issues. An annoyed growl was heard, shutting up Inutaisho and Kuroi.

"More fighting, less talking... you two." The female inu youkai scorned at the two arguing youkai, her amber eyes flared in anger at the two.

"I agree." added the female ningen with long ebony black hair that went to her waist while her emerald green eyes narrowed at the slowly advancing youkai and ningen.

"Midoriko, don't be mean..." cried Kuroi playfully while Inutaisho added in the same playfulness, "Sumiko, don't take things s seriously." Sumiko's eyes glimmered crimson while Midoriko's emerald green eyes narrowed at the two youkai.

"Alright, we'll take them out." Inutaisho assured the two as he drew his Tetsusaiga out from it's shealth while Kuroi drew out the Sou'unga. White flames surrounded both swords as both wielders shouted loudly, "Wind Scar!!" The flames hit their intended targets while loud screams of anguish and pain was heard. In seconds, there was nothing left of their remains, but dust as Inutaisho sighed to himself. "I need more of a challenge." he whinned, but he earned a hit upside the head from Sumiko with a look that clearly states, 'Why didn't you do that before?'

InuTaisho just shrugged his shoulders until he heard a loud roar of laughter coming from above the small group. Sumiko looked up at where the laughter came from and spotted a man with long ivory white hair with pure crimson eyes gazing at the small group. His fangs and claws were dripping in blood as they all noticed the limp dead body of the woman he was holding.

"Izayoi-sama!" shouted Kuroi in shock as she glared at the one who killed her lady. "Ryuutetsi! You will pay!" Kuroi was in a rage until Sumiko stopped her.

"Kuroi, we need you to watch over the children." Sumiko stated softly while looking up in tinted pink eyes of Kuroi. "Someone needs to be alive to tell the truth of what happened this day..." Before Sumiko could even finish what she was going to say, crimson blood started to stained black warrior kimono she was wearing and the miko garbs that Kuroi was wearing. InuTaisho growled in anger as his eyes bled red as he glared up at the laughing Ryuutesusei.

"Ku...roi... In...u...Tai...sho... take care of our sons and make them proud... of th...eir... herit...age" were the last words the Sumiko stated as she was lifeless while her eyes were closed in peace. Before Midoriko or even Kuroi knew it, InuTaisho lunged for Ryuutetsusei in his large dog form as Ryuutetsusei transformed into a large black dragon.

Midoriko and Kuroi could only watch as InuTaisho grabbed Ryuutetsusei by the tail and slung him into the cliffs of the Western borders until Ryuutetsusei wrapped his tail around InuTaisho's frontal paw and threw him into the same cliffs that he was thrown into before. Crimson and black flames surrounded both fighters while crimson blood was slowly flowing from both. Before InuTaisho could deliver the final blow to Ryuutetsusei, he was beaten to his own death blow by the said demon as Ryuutetsusei created a large, deep gash in the stomach of the Great Taiyoukai of the Western lands while InuTaisho gave Ryuutetsusei a deep gash over his left claw, almost removing it from it joint placement.

While this was going on, Midoriko's eyes lowered a bit to the jewel that was around her neck. Midoriko closed her eyes while a white light started to surround her while Kuroi stood infront of her as if to mask the power radiating from Midoriko. Before Ryuutetsusei could delivered another fatal blow to the Great Taiyoukai, he was frozen still in a case of bright white light. His glimmering crimson eyes glared at both Midoriko and Kuroi, swearing that he will get his revenge as he was sucked into the jewel. InuTaisho transformed back into his humaniod form and fell on the ground unmoving while Midoriko, who used every bit of her energy that she had left, fall in the arms of Kuroi and died in her arms.

InuTaisho watched as Kuroi walked up to him and knelt down beside him. He sighed to himself as blood seeped from his lips as he stated softly while his eyes started to close. "Tell... Sess...hmaru...and...Inu...Yas..ha... I'm...so..rry.." His eyes closed as Kuroi called for any soldier of their army that was still living to carry the bodies of the fallen Izayoi, Sumiko, Midoriko and InuTaisho.

A young boy around the age of eight years old was patiently waiting for someone to come while a young boy that appeared to be four years old was also waiting, but not as patiently.

"Sesshomaru-anii, when will they be back?" asked the younger child while his arms were folded across his chest.

The one called Sesshomaru could only shake his head at the younger sibling until the both of them notice someone walking towards them.

"Kuroi-dono," gasped Sesshomaru as both children watch as the bloodly and bruised Kuroi walked towards them. Sesshomaru and the younger boy ran up to her and hugged each of her legs until the younger boy asked, "Where's mommy and daddy, Kuroi-dono?"

Kuroi sighed to herself as she knelt down painfully to the size of the younger boy and looked at both of them while tears started seeping from her eyes. "I'm sorry... InuYasha... Sesshomaru... they're dead... they died by Ryuutsusei's hands, but Ryuutsusei's gone as well... I'm sorry." InuYasha hugged Kuroi tightly and started crying himself while the latter only stood there in shock until he hugged Kuroi and started crying himself.

Kuroi held both boys as she started singing softly the lullaby that their parents sung to them when they were little babies and sometimes for bedtime.

the crimson-stained sun

has illuminated everything; now and the past

is what i have imagined within this twilight

more than my own hands can accomplish?

please teach me how to live

a little more vulnerably than i do now

won't you taint me just a little?

that way, even if i get hurt

and lose everything around me

this song of truth will flow through my heart

this dispute will probably go on

about that which is most precious

i've become a rebel, i've overlooked things

even the gentle smiles of strangers

Kuroi noticed that Inuyasha's eyes were starting to drope as she continued singing for the siblings. She felt their pain and knew it all to well.

if eternity knows what manner of darkness

and when pain will vanish,

then that way, you shall taint me

i looked always to yesterday, to the castles in the sky

when will i be able to follow them?

this song of truth shall be my guide

if eternity knows what manner of darkness

and when pain will vanish,

this song of truth will flow through my heart

Sesshomaru looked up at Kuroi's face and notice the emotions that shown to her face. Pain, suffering, regret, sadness, loneliness...everything that his brother and himself were feeling while he let the song comfort him and his brother.

now, please, taint me just a little

please, just taint me, only a little

Kuroi looked over the two children as she notice that InuYasha was sleeping already while Sesshomaru himself was trying not to sleep until she heard a small yawn escaped his lips.

this song of truth shall be my guide

When Kuroi was finish, she carried both boys to their respective chambers and went to InuTaisho's study. Her eyes glance towards the balcony while she notice the jewel that was now in her hand because of the final wish of Midoriko. "This will be the beginning..." was all she said while she watched the clear night sky.
