A Sort of Fairytale by beautiful_destruction

Getting on With Life

Walking the vast collge campus was a workout for her, even though she should be used to alot more rigorous activity from her time spent in the Fuedal era.

How she missed her adventures with them, her friends, the second family she had come to love so dearly.

It seemed like only a heartbeat ago she had been flung forcefully through time and coughed up back in modern time.

Bloody and and miserable, she had sat at the bottom of the well screaming her lungs out at the dirt.

"Why....why did you bring me back here,whyyyyyy.....!!!!"

Her mother had brought her in the house, set her in the tub, washed away the blood, but she could not wash away the memories.

Kogome had spent weeks in bed, refusing to leave the house or talk to anyone.

Eventually, she had come to terms with what happened back then.

She finished school with near perfect marks, and had been accepted to a good college, where she had been getting along nicely.

She spent most of her time confined within the lavender walls of her room studying, reading,or listening to the radio.

Pictures of her family and a few friens adorned the desk and the walls, along with paintings that Hojo had done for her.

Hojo........he had always been kind to her,he was practically the sweetest boy she knew.

He had popped by her rrom one day to give her a present and check on her like he usually did.

Poor boy...he still believed Grandpa's wild tales of illness and would still go out of his way to bring her remedies from his family's store.

The day he dropped by was not unusual,it was sunny and bright out with the spring breeze gently swaying the budding flowers on the campus grounds.

"Hi Kagome, how are you?" Hojo asked,a bright smile splayed across his grown up features.

"I'm ok Hojo, what brings you here?" Kagome replied, stepping aside to let Hojo into her room.

"Ohhh, not much,it was just a nice day outI thought I take you to lunch and bring you a little present I've been working on." He said, handing her the brown paper wrapped item.

"A present...for me,you really shouldn't have Hojo."

Kagome said as she carefully began unwrapping the gift.

"Well,I was making it and the colors just made me think of you,so I thought it would be best if you had it." Hojo said as he watched in anticipation.

"Oh Hojo.........wow,this is so beautiful!" Kagome exclaimed.

The painting was that of a pair of mating cranes, graceful and white, set against a sunset in a pond.

Their necks intertwined, they stood among golden hued water lilys as the setting sun in the background cast a peacy-pink glow on the water, giving the effect of standing in crystal.

The clouds above retained a bluish-purple tintalong their upper edges while the lower puffs were cast in redish orange light.

They set about hanging the masterpiece by her window since that was the spot with the most light and then made their way to the nearest cafe.

They walked the streets of Tokyo happily,on would think that they were the perfect couple, but in actuality they were best friends.

Hojo always asked Kagome for advice and they both got eachother's opinions when shopping for clothes,it was the perfect platonic relationship!

The streets at this time of year were always bustling with activity.

Shops had their brightly colored banners out front, displaying the newest wares for sale.

People were out in full force enjoying the good weather, walking biking, running, just everywhere looked like the ants had overrun the world.

Kagome and Hojo were almost to Z Cafe when something caught Kagome's eye.

A sliver of long white colored hair drifted up and fallen down among some of the crowd.

Kagome slowed to a near crawl as she watched in fascination as the hair whipped around and walked the opposite direction from her.

Whoever the ahir belonged to,they were tall and had somewhat broad shoulders.

"Kagome,is something wrong?" Hojo asked, jolting her back to reality.

"Oh...no,I just thought I saw someone I knew, guess not...lets go inside." Kagome replied, waving the notion aside.

But she couldn't help but feel a a nagging pull on her heart,a pull in her mind telling her that person was familiar.
