Depression and Departure

This story takes after they beat Naraku. the story got altered a little, but that was for my purposes, so just bear with me people!

"Inuyasha! No! Give it back!" Kagome screamed at the top of her lungs. "Don't do it Inuyasha!" they had just won the battle against Naraku with the help of Sesshoumaru, an unexpected ally. After their win, they suffered a loss- Inuyasha. Not physically, but mentally.

He lost control of himself and became enraged as a demonic being, and stole the now complete Shikon no Tama from Kagome, hurting her in the process. Now he was on a rampage against everyone who dared to get near him, his eyes blood red, staring hungrily at the jewel. He was about to make his wish to become full demon when Kagome tried to plead with him, begging him not to while everyone else could do nothing but watch helplessly. They hoped that Kagome might convince him to regain his control, but they knew that they were just trying to delay the inevitable. He'd become a full yukai, no matter what the cost.

"Inuyasha, please, try to remember me. Don't you recognize me?" she looked at him with eyes that were glazed with unshed tears. She tried to look strong, but fighting her tears right now were an almost impossible task. All he did was growl and stare. She couldn't stand to see him this way, predatorily violent and evil, and she desperately wished for this nightmare to end. He finally looked away, and snarled loudly to no one in particular and held his head in in his hands in frustration, as if he was fighting a battle within himself. Apparently, a losing one. With one last howl, he fled towards the pitch-black sky, leaving everyone else to just stare and watch they're companion desert them.

Kagome fell to her knees, tears rolling down her cheeks without stop. Every part of her body was stunned at what just happened. They were so joyful when Naraku died, but the joy soon turned to despair as they saw Inuyasha. *How could things change so instantly? I thought that he wouldn't care about being full demon anymore. Now what am I supposed to do? If I go back home, I wont be able to return because Inuyasha has the Shikon no Tama now. besides, I cant leave when things are like this. I'm the protector of the jewel, so I have to get it back. * Her tears finally stopped and she turned around to find everyone looking at her.

"Are you ok?" Sango asked delicately. She couldn’t even imagine how Kagome must feel now.

"I'll be fine. But now, we have to get the jewel back from Inuyasha." her face turned blank. She looked at everyone carefully. Sango and Miroku bore a worried face, and Shippou was frozen in his tracks. Sesshoumaru just stared with his stoic mask on. *I can't take this anymore. * With that, she ran away from everyone, to escape in to the world of misery. She couldn't bear the shock of Inuyasha turning in to a horrible demon.

She tripped on a root while she was running and fell straight down on her face. She burst in to tears and couldn't help the helpless cry that came from her voice. She got up and began to walk when she heard a familiar voice ahead of her. *Who could it be? * She walked on to find out that it was and came upon a clearing of trees- with Inuyasha and Kikyo in the center. It was just like last time when she found them together, except that this time, Inuyasha was in rage. She watched carefully in hiding to see what Kikyo's reaction would be to Inuyasha.

"Inuyasha. You wish to turn full demon now? Do you not care for me?" Kikyo said with no emotion. She stepped close to him, and Inuyasha growled.

"Get away from me bitch, or you'll pay for your ignorance with your life!"

"You cannot hurt me Inuyasha, whether your demon or not." she stepped closer until they were inches away. Then she reached up to touch his cheek. He flinched at her actions, but he soon calmed and his eyes soothed back in to its original color.

"Kikyo." he hugged her tightly.

Kagome couldn't stand this. She slowly walked away from the couple. *She was able to calm him. I wasn't. They belong together, and I wont stand in their way anymore. They can keep the damn jewel, and I'll leave. * Tears trickled down her face once more, and she vowed that this would be her last time crying useless tears for the hanyou.

She ran. She ran till she could run no longer. Not heading towards a specific destination, and not caring who or what she ran past, she just ran. She eventually collapsed and didn't get up until. She just lied there waiting for the pain to go away, but it refused to do so. No matter what she tried to convince herself, she knew that she would always carry the pain that Inuyasha's betrayal inflicted on her. She mindlessly sat up, but stayed in the same spot nonetheless. That is, until she heard a voice behind her.

"Get up wench." she refused to turn around, but she was grabbed on the shoulders from behind and lifted up, and she saw a glimpse of silver hair.

"What are you doing here Sesshoumaru?" (AN: I bet u all expected Inuyasha right? WRONG! He's still too busy getting it on with Kikyo.)

"I've come to ask you what exactly happened with my half brother. What possessed him to turn demon?" she glared at him, and he didn't know why.

"He did it to stop the mocking. He did it to stop the pain of not knowing where you belong. He did it because of inconsiderate jerks like you!" she burst out. Sesshoumaru was still confused, but began to understand.

"You mean he was ashamed of his human blood?"

"Yes. He wanted to become full demon so that no one would ever doubt him again, and he'd finally know what he truly was. But now he's just a vicious demon. Well not yet, but he has the Shikon no Tama and there's no doubt in my mind that he wont use to transform. Not unless...." tears swelled up in her eyes as she remembered Kikyo calm Inuyasha down. *A perfect match. one that angers, and one that consoles.* "he'll be fine."

"How so? You and I both know that he'll get out of control again and-"

"I said that he'd be fine! And since when do you care so much about our well being anyway? Weren't you the one that had once tried to kill us? Did you not at one time mock inuyasha’s human part?!"

Sesshoumaru was appalled from her interruption and her words. But for some reason, he was more hurt than shocked or angry at her. The questions stunned him, and he couldn't help question himself. *Why so I care so much anyway? It's not like I could feel anything for humans except for Rin.*

"I'm sorry Sesshoumaru...I didn't mean to accuse you of such-"

"Don't apologize. You're right. I don't care. I don't know why I came to talk to you in the first place. Goodbye human wench." he said walking, regretting what he had said. He knew that she wasn't a wench, yet. he had to become defensive. *Why do I feel guilty? I've done nothing wrong but speak the truth. If she didn't want my help, then I'm not about to go back and offer my assistance again. * But deep inside, he knew that he didn't mean to hurt her for some unknown reason, and he still felt horrible. And another feeling rose up for the miko, and he couldn't decipher what this complexity was either. At last after flying a good few miles, he was overwhelmed by his curiosity and decided to follow Kagome.

Kagome felt horrible. She knew that she just exploded at Sesshoumaru for no reason, and she felt that she should go apologize. Yet. she couldn’t bring herself to. *He's the one that made Inuyasha doubt his abilities as a hanyou. why should I care how he feels? * In her heart, she knew that she had wronged Sesshoumaru, who only in return wanted to help. *Why had he wanted to help anyway? He hates us, and he only helped us fight against Naraku for his own selfish reasons. right? * She sighed. *I shouldn't have acted like that towards him. But even I wanted to say sorry right now, I can't go back. Not to Sesshoumaru, not to Sango, Miroku, Shippou, and definitely not to Inuyasha. *

She began to run again but now with a destination in mind. *Its time to leave this era. I don't belong here, nor will I ever. I can't return, even if I wanted to. No matter what happens, I have to be strong willed and stay in my time. It's the only way. * She knew that she'd miss her friends greatly and she'd be tempted to go back. Although she couldn’t come ack to the feaudal era, Inuyasha could. He had the jewel with him. She had to find a way to stop the time gap. *The well. it has to be destroyed! * She stopped in her tracks. *How will I ever do that? I don't have the strength or the skill.* just then, she sensed a demon nearby. The aura was strangely familiar.

"Sesshoumaru! I know that you’re there! I can sense your aura.” *Why didn't he conceal it? Well it doesn't matter now.*

Sesshoumaru growled. He had doubted her abilities greatly and didn't mask his aura, and now his presence was known. He jumped down from a nearby tree and came in front of Kagome.

"Ok Sesshoumaru, I'm sorry for what I said earlier. I know that you only wanted to help for whatever reason, and I thank you for your consideration." she was apologizing to him? He couldn't believe why she had, or why he felt so relieved after her comments.

"It matters not."

"I have a favor to ask you,"

"What is your request?"

"I don't wish to come back to this era anymore."

"What do you mean 'come back'?"

"er... Well.I live in the future, and the well over there *she pointed to the well* is the time portal." *this explains her peculiar outfit.* " I don't want to come back here anymore. It's just too much for me." his heart had stopped for a minute. *Why did my heart stop? What does it matter to me if she's leaving? *

"And what do you want form me?"

"Well three things. One, I want you to keep a watch on my friends while I'm gone. I don't want to constantly worry over them, and want to be sure that they're safe."

"How can you be so sure that you can trust me with them?"

"I don't know why, but I trust you, and I'd feel more comfortable if you watched over them." he warmed at her words, but quickly stifled the emotion. "And second, can you be the one to tell them I left? I don't want to worry them, and I know it’ll just kill me to say it to their faces. Just tell them that something came up and I have to stay in the future." tears threatened to spill at the thought of her friends.

"What is your third request?"

"Ok. *Sigh* can you destroy the well after I've passed through?" this time, she was pleading with her words as well as her eyes. *She really wants this.* "so will you do it? Please? I know you have nothing to gain from doing any of this, but-"

"Fine. I shall fulfill your requests. But before I do, I need to know why you wish to leave feudal Japan."

"Because......... I don't belong here." with that she walked towards the well. "Thanks Sesshoumaru, for everything. I owe you a great favor, and I wish to repay you someday. If possible." she gave him a smile, and he was stunned, but he still kept his stoic expression on, and nodded. "Don't forget to destroy the well Sesshie Sama!" with that, she jumped.

*What a strange girl* But for some reason, he felt a bit empty at her disappearance. He looked in to the well to see if she had gone, and saw that she had. *well time to grant a wish. * He raised his hand with poison dripping from it, preparing to slash the well, but something stopped him. Not something physical, but something inside him made him stop. He felt a rush of pain thinking of how she'll never come back. *Why do I feel this way? I've never felt compassion like this. this. unfamiliar emotion. * He sighed. *Well I have to keep my promise. * With that, he cut the well, and the stones and wood melted, along with any hope of Kagome returning.

Err. good or bad? Kind of OOC but ish iite! I mean. it doesn't have to be perfect. well review people! It's not that hard. all you do is click the little button that says "review story" and type up some stuff! Or you might even hit the "add story to favorites" button. or dare I say, "favorite author"??? Naw.. I'm not that good. but hey, its ur choice! If that's ur decision, then I wont stop you. Sesshie sama rocks! Sesshie was my name for him, but I've decided to let Kagome borrow it! :-D
