The Red

Prologue: Disturbed

The dream came to him nightly now, immediately playing in his mind as soon as his lids slipped closed. The utter chaos was unsettling to say the least, and the Lord Sesshoumaru of the Western Lands did not like chaos.

His world was structured, ordered, and in his complete control. But everytime he closed his eyes, he found himself unable to resist that which pulled at him so insistantly. And though he would not admit it, even to himself, he was beginning not to care.

Each night he dreampt of her, and it addled him greatly. But no matter how often he told his brain to shut up, she was always there in his dreams, smiling openly, awaiting him with comforting arms. Not that he needed comfort.

And like a starved fool, he went willingly into her embrace, not even able to curse himself for his own stupidity.

Sesshomaru sighed as he sat up in his bed, the tips of his clawed fingers pinching the bridge of his nose; he could feel the beginnings of a headache brewing.

He should really stop thinking about this now before it worsened, but he just could not let this go on. There were only so many times he could pummel Jaken because he was stressed out from lack of rest. He didn't truly need it, of course, but because of the damndable dream, his reserves were dipleted and they needed replenishing.

Really, why was he so damn fascinated with the woman?

Begrudgingly, he did hold a fair amount of respect for her. She was strong-willed, always held her resolve and determination even in the bleakest of situations. She was loyal, honorable to a fault, and protected those she loved with a fiercness he had not thought anyone capable of. All qualities he found both surprising and admirable for a human.

On the downside she was loud, obnoxious, opinionated, annoying, totally disrespectful of his station, rude, and bad-tempered. All things he was sure only increased with the time she spent with the foul half-breed.

But that still didn't change the fact that he was intrigued by the girl, and until satisfied his oh-so-hateful curiosity, he'd never be rid of the dreams.

Right then, he knew what he had to do.

He rather hoped his little brother would not mind a guest.
