An Ephemeral Fantasy by Sephirona

The Prelude of Light

No one could hear the cries. Oh, how she cried...her moans of pain as her life was slowly drained from her very being. But her pleads for help went unheeded. How much longer would she have to wait?

Five hundred long years before, a prophecy had been made to the suffering Planet. The last One, to only remaining survivor of those who talked to the Planet, had foreseen someone who would come along and unite those willing to save the Planet. But the One passed on soon after. No longer did anyone listen to the Planet's cries of warning, of it's eminent destruction.

The people of the Planet had long lost their ability to commune with nature. They had become cold, cruel. Slowly, the Planet's life ebbed away. But no, she did not lose hope. The Planet knew that she still had a chance. And when the human girl named Kagome Higurashi was born, the Planet held its breath.

Finally, someOne was here to save her.

Kagome had always felt that she was slightly different from the other children, ever since she was a young girl. Maybe not even slightly different.

All of the other children bullied her. Anyone who was different was bullied. It was to be expected. But no matter how painful the bullying was, Kagome never gave in. kagome knew they were only doing it because they were jealous of something. She could see it in their faces as they jeered and smirked at her...but what would they be jealous of? A small, timid seven year-old girl like her couldn't possibly have anything worth fawning over...right?

But no. Kagome was very special. Ever since she was small, there was a light that blossomed from her very spirit, a light so bright it was almost ethereal. Perhaps it was this glow that made the others green with envy.

Kagome was never lonely. Although the other children shunned her, she was seemingly always cheerful. Her parents thought this peculiar. The horrible Dark had enveloped the Planet, killing off almost all life as it swept through the land like a shadowed cloak. But even through the Dark, Kagome shone ever so brightly. She was an amazing treasure they never would have expected. But it alarmed them when she began to tell stories of the wonderful....things she had met.

"But Mother, you have to believe me! She looked like a horse, but she was so beautiful! Her fur was so white, and she had this amazing horn at the top of her head! I even petted her!"

"You should have seen it Father! It had the most amazing wings, and it was so big that it was like this! It had these really big teeth too..."

Surely unicorns and dragons, like the ones Kagome described, could not exist...right? But a child of Kagome's purity couldn't lie. Her parents began to fear that she was being broken by the Darkness, seeing things that weren't really there.

They knew Kagome was special. They just didn't know how truly special she really was.

A/N Heheh, sorry if it's short. I slowly and painstakingly developed this plot from my experiences in life....please review and tell me if my plot is good enough to be continued!
