Kagome sighed, stretching out her slender limbs. A smile graced the fair angel's lips as she thought about life, but then she frowned, a faint memory of Earth flitting through her mind. Had she...ever been in love? But, if so, with whom? Kagome's brow creased as she strained her mind.

"Hey Kagome!" A young masculine angel strode over and sat beside her. "Penny for your thoughts?"

Kagome sighed. With him here, she'd never figure it out.

"No thanks, Akito. I was wondering who all the damned ones were...I hope it's none of my family..." She replied.

Hojo smiled.

"I doubt it, Kagome. But there's more to your thoughts than that, isn't there?" He probed deeper.

"Mm-hm." Kagome nodded absent-mindedly.

"Who are you thinking about?"

"No one."

"All right then. What are you thinking about?"

"I'm trying to remember my life on Earth..." Kagome looked down upon it from her cloud. "I think I miss it there..."

"Heh. You are the weird angel, aren't you?" It was Mana, the 'perfect' angel. She was crossing her arms. "Service is about to start."

She turned and left.

"Well, I'd better go." Akito flitted off, leaving Kagome alone.

An image of a man with gold eyes and silver hair flitted across her mind, followed by hundreds of images and memories.

'Huh?' Kagome thought, and was vaguely aware of the searing pain in her back. 'Pain in Paradise?'

The cloud beneath her disappeared, and she began to fall. Her back was bleeding horribly, and she watched the ground get closer and closer. A pulse began in her chest, and she felt the pain intensify.

'Did this happen when I died?' She wondered as she blacked out.

Sango and Miroku were kneeled beside Kagome's grave, and had placed two white roses on the soil.

"Why'd you do that, Kagome-chan?" Sango whispered, tears in her eyes. "That youkai wasn't even grateful for your sacrifice!"

"Sango, you must remember, he defended Kagome...whether on purpose or not, and she felt indebted to him..." Miroku said, putting an arm around the taijiya's shoulders.

"Houshi-sama..." Sango buried her face in her hands. "Kagome was like a sister to me...Now they're both gone...both she and Kohaku..."

"They are in a better place, I'm sure." Miroku restrained his wandering hand. Now was not the time or place.

"Houshi-sama..." Sango turned and buried her face in his shoulder, her tears soaking the collar of his kimono. "InuYasha doesn't even miss her!"

Her sorrow turned to rage.

"That lousy hanyou! After she was buried, he got cozy with that undead priestess!" She vented viciously.

"Taijiya..." A colder voice interjected. "If it angers you so, let him know. Let him feel your suffering..."

Miroku looked up and saw Sesshoumaru.

"Sesshoumaru, what brings you here?" Miroku inquired amiably.

"That miko..." Sesshoumaru glanced at the grave. "Her sacrifice..."

Sango cut the taiyoukai off by standing up. She turned and looked him square in the eyes with her fiery glare.

"I hope she didn't sacrifice herself in vain." She said venomously, and walked off, tears ing on her face. Miroku stood up.

"I apologize for her abrupt behavior, Sesshoumaru-sama." Miroku said, bowing politely and adding the suffix for the sake of his life. "She is grieving the loss of Kagome-sama as well as the loss of her younger brother. She took their passing hard."

Sesshoumaru slightly inclined his head to show that he understood. One of his pointed ears twitched, and he looked skyward. He turned and left abruptly. No sooner had he gotten ten yards from Miroku than had Kagome come, falling through the trees. Her figure was , and her back was bleeding, right on the shoulder blades. Sesshoumaru caught her.

'I figured this would occur...' Sesshoumaru mused to himself. 'However, I am indebted to her for her sacrifice...I suppose Rin would like a new friend...'

Sesshoumaru covered her with his fluffy, and strode off to his fortress in the heart of the Western Lands.
