The diary
The diary
“Momma, momma will you read us the dairy now?” A little girl cheered excited. Her long black tresses bounced as she launched herself into her mother's lap.
The older woman began to laugh. “It’s called a diary sweetie.” she replied softy, holding a small red book for her daughter to see. The rim was stitched with golden thread. Her face lit up with a thrilled glow.
“Geez Kayla,” a young man scorned, rolling his eyes. “Be patient.”
A frown appeared on her face. “Stay out of this Kai,” she hissed. “You never wanted to hear this story.”
He snorted placing his arms behind his head turning his face away from his mother and little sister.
“Kai, Kayla settle down you two,” she sternly told her children.
Kayla beamed at her mother almost immediately settling down, while Kai pretend he wasn’t listening. “Why do you have to read us grandmother’s diary anyway?” he asked emphasizing each word.
She stared at her son’s annoyed expression. “Because I think its time you know what happened,” she started. “The hardships that your grandmother went through. What she achieved and how she achieved them.” She smiled down at her daughter, who was already smiling at her. “Like why she was named the best rider in Japan,” She tapped her daughter’s nose. “And how she met your grandfather.”
Kayla clapped her hands together. “I can’t wait!” she cheered.
Unraveling the gold ribbon that held the small book shut, she slowly opened the cover. Kai slid closer to his mother, observing the small curved letters that were written in black ink. “Let’s start from the beginning,” she whispered, folding the cover back.
Her two children nestled in closely ready to hear all about the life of their grandmother.
