Perhaps the Sun will Shine by Zennou

To Die

He didn't come for her.

It wasn't really that important, oh no, not important at all. In fact, one could say it was a childish fantasy, and they wouldn't be wrong. But still, Kagome couldn't hide the sinking feeling within her heart and the lonely ache within her soul.

Inuyasha, her friend, her love, and her kin...did not come for her.

It had started as all of there arguments do, with a simple 'sit'. Inuyasha had gone missing minutes later. Kagome had practically pulled her hair out with worry, and when he came back the next morning, all he could offer in response to her concern was a simple 'feh'. Even though he wouldn't answer her, he couldn't hide the faint scent of earth and bones.

"What do you see in her? She's dead, Inuyasha, DEAD! Can't you understand?" She had said, finally cracking. And... he had... hit her. He'd sat up and stared at her with those cold, golden eyes, a deep fury in his expression...and he had smacked her across the face, with enough force to knock her from her feet to lie among the hard muddy ground.

"Inuyasha!" Kagome had screamed to his retreating back. "If you care at all, come for me! Come back for me!" She had thought he knew, that he would come, that he would love her as much as she loved him...but he had not. She had lain there among the weeds and sticks and brush of the forest, alone and stunned, and he had left her there. Left her there to die.

It was many hours before she realized that, no matter how long she waited, he would not come. She was no match for the dead, it seemed. And it was many hours more before she realized that she didn't care.

Inuyasha had chosen. He had walked into his decision with his eyes open, and had chosen a walking corpse over her. Why had she cared before? What was the point of caring now?

Night fell. Kagome had lost all judgment of time. After all, who cared? The shards of the Shikon jewel, the well, Naraku...everything she had lived for now seemed so far away.

Her life didn't matter. All she wanted was to die. And as she drifted off into unconsciousness, that was her one wish. To die.

Something was there; nudging and poking her sore body back to reality.

"Is she-man girl living?"

Another poke, this time in the ribcage. She groaned.

"She-man girl?"

"No! No! She-man-youkai girl."

"Human she-girl!"

Kagome opened her bleary eyes and saw nothing.

"Do we she help?"

"No no no no! West Lord Youkai does! We tell him. He do with she-man girl."

"Yes yes!"

She was sitting alone on the forest floor. There were no demons, no people... nothing could have prodded her. A slight breeze rushed around her.

"She woke! Girl she cannot see we!"

It took Kagome a total of 5 seconds to comprehend that the wind was speaking to her. She inhaled sharply, and a barely visible being that she hadn't noticed before came into view. She stared, and 3 more of the creatures became apparent.

"She can see we!"

"Is she help we?"

"Tell West Lord we! Run now!"

And she was alone again with out the slightest idea what was happening. In fact, she couldn't remember anything that had happened before she had awoken.

Kagome stumbled up and swung wildly around in circles. She could not remember! The woods looked vaguely familiar... But the more she thought about it, the more her heart clenched. The more her heart clenched the more pain she felt.

Who was she?

The sound of water reached her ears and she woozily blundered to it, clasping on her knees the instant she reached the bank of the river, looking at her reflection. Her hair was in disarray with patches of dirt plastered to her skull. Her eyes were red and puffy.

What the hell? She thought. What had happened? Who was she?

The only thing she knew was that she was alone. That she was in mental pain. And that she could not remember who she was.

Kagome splashed her face with water and relished in the feelings of coldness that felt like her soul was being cleansed. It didn't matter anymore. She felt dead. She probably looked dead. Did the dead feel? She didn't know. Nothing would come to mind. She had no answers to anything.

But she couldn't shake the feeling that she was supposed to be doing something.

Why? What could it be?
