Could You Ever Expect It? by HikaMeYami

Prologue

Prologue

It was a beautiful day in Japan's feudal age. In a clearing featuring nothing except an old well, a lonely hanyou waited. If you asked anyone who frequented the forest, they will tell you that he had been there for about five days so far. He never took his eyes off the old well; it was as if he were waiting for some sort of miracle to happen.

It was during his sixth day of waiting when something that you defiantly wouldn't call normal happened. A bluish/pinkish glow erupted from the well. As the colors receded, a head of raven hair could be seen over the rim of the well.

"Kagome..." said the hanyou.

"Inuyasha...have you been waiting here this whole time?" asked the raven haired beauty, named Kagome.

"NO! I do have better things to do with my time than to sit around waiting for you! I came today because I was going to come through to get you if you weren't back before sunset." yelled the insensitive half-breed.

Needless to say, the young girl was hurt. After a brief moment of silence, she took a huge breath and said, "Inuyasha... HOW CAN YOU BE SO INSENSITIVE!" she took another breath and quietly said, "Osuwari, Inuyasha."

Inuyasha was then smashed face first into the ground, and swearing all the time. While he waited for the spell to wear off, Kagome sat down and looked sadly down at him, thinking, 'Why does he have to act like such a jerk. I was being nice, coming back a whole day early. Well, next time I'll stay away an extra day just to get back at him.'

Meanwhile, the spell had worn off a very dirty and angry Inuyasha.

"Why the hell did you have to go and do that you bitch?" He said slowly and menacingly. To his annoyance, he realized that Kagome wasn't even listening to him. Slowly, she turned to look at him.

"Inuyasha, I came to tell you that we only have two more years together. I got accepted with a full scholarship to Tokyo University. So, I hope we can find all the shards in that time. And, so we can find them faster, I'm only going home once a month. I wanted to tell you that, but you had to start screaming at me." Kagome said this all very slowly and her face looked pained at the thought of having to leave so soon.

With her bit said, she stood up and walked towards the village where her friends were currently staying with an old miko named Kaede

When the two entered the hut, they were greeted by their friends Miroku, Sango, Shippou, Kirara, and Kaede.

Kagome greeted all of them and sat down next to Sango and Kaede. Inuyasha sat next to Miroku and Kirara.

Kaede then said, "Kagome, it is surprising to see you back so early, did Inuyasha do and drag you back?" "No, Kaede, I just needed to tell you that I have to leave in two years to attend collage. I will try hard to find the rest of the jewel, but we will have to set out tomorrow to get a head start." Responded Kagome.

As she said this, she was looking at the small part of the jewel they had managed to find so far. 'Well, if Kikyo hadn't stolen the other half we had...' she stopped there. "There are only about twenty shards left...and it seems as though Naraku has given up his search." Kagome said. 'Well, he has over two thirds of it already...' She thought sadly.

As the sun set, a powerful inu-yukai listened to his half-brother and his companions talking quietly about the vile hanyou, Naraku. He listened with a look of utter boredom on his face.

'So...they were going to try to kill Naraku on their own? I highly doubt that they'll live' He thought bitterly.

'Do they truly think that they have a chance of winning? How stupid are they?'

"Well, little brother, prepare yourself, for this is the battle you cannot win."

The next morning, the group set out for their search. To all it felt strange that their journey may soon come to an end.

How right they were..............
