The mind can play strange tricks on you. 300 words.

Unreal

He lay quite still, staring up at the ceiling and watching the patterns that developed for his entertainment. He felt a presence beside him, and knew that waiting was over. His eyes closed. It felt like he had been waiting forever. Waiting for her. Occasionally he would see her, but most often he did not. Surely, though, everything should go according to his will. It was the nature of the worldl. Yet she didn't come.

"You never told me," she said, trailing fingers down his chest. "And I'm not a telepath. How should I know?"

"You should have figured it out," he said grumpily. Why did he have to do all the work, be the vulnerable one?

"That's hard to do when I never see you, and all you'll do when we meet is look cold."

"Still," he said. "It's your responsibility to know how I feel."

"I thought it was my responsibility to love you."

"And that."

He felt her weight settle over him and, eyes still closed, lifted his face to meet her kiss. After a while, she broke it, and rested on his chest. "You should go soon."

"I know."

"Try not to fight him, this time. It doesn't do to attack her protecter, after all."

His jaw clenched, but he forced it to relax. "I know."

He opened his eyes, dispelling the illusion his mind had created, of her, and sat up. Dressing himself in an almost leasurely manner that had more to do with nervousness than leasure, he prepared to leave before he heard her voice again.

"Sesshoumaru."

He turned, expecting to see her, and for a moment he did. His mind supplied her face, as she said, "I don't take well to claims of ownership."

He nodded and left, to find the real Kagome.
