I loved that part when Kagome felt like "Indiana Jones" and how she reacted when she saw the dragon. "Puffy" lol, that line reminded me of Finding Nemo. "I shall call him Puffy (Squishy). And he shall be mine." lol.

Hi my friend. It's Thursday evening, 5-15 and I got some more "me time". I am up to chapter 26. Beautifully written by the way. Congradulations on the award. You so rightfully deserve the honor. This fic is filled with Sesshoumaru's cultural background. Not just a few inu characters showing us that he and InuYasha aren't the only inus left. I like getting to know where they're from. I liked that Kagome got to show her strength and courage to his people and hold her own against such odds. You have given me another great fic to immerse my mind into and get away from all the moving and confusion that I've been going through for the last 4 1/2 months. Seriously though; I hope things are calm and whatever caused your absence resolved - unless it's a good thing, in which case I wish you more of it (for example, if you had such a one as our favorite Tai, or Daiyoukai - in human form if need be, to play with, I'd forbid you from writing - so many better things to do in that case.

The chapter was very good. You don't give yourself adequate credit. There have been so many unanticipated twists here, it's okay to let it go to a satisfactory resolution with -- I know there will be some twist - but with them together for as long as possible, his life span or surprise, hers is the longer and she gifts HIM with hers..

The writing as usual stellar, the characterizations wonderful, and Sesshoumaru is ALWAYS in character.. maybe that was why some person *peers around* ;) or other nominated you for some award having to do with BEST Sesshoumaru Portrayal. Must have something to do with the fact that it's long overdue and that your portrayals of Sesshoumaru are phenomenal.

He acts out, he shows emotion but ALWAYS in character.

I truly love the way you write.

Hmmm, btw, there were some of your trademark "I'm typing this fast and can't be bothered with a beta" simple typos.

I wanna fix 'em. Or you fix them.. any one of the multitudes of your fans would be happy to correct your typos... When you think of classic fan fiction, of genuinely talented writing, it is of you that people think...

I won't point out other more recent writers who feel they are great.. you don't, but you are - you really really are.

Hi Shadow! I took a few hours for myself tonight to play catch up on my fics. Fancy seeing yours was the first on the update list. Though I didn't read the updated one posted today, I have picked up from chapter 18 and re read to get the feel of what I missed. I'm up to chpt 20 completed and I was impressed with the contest and it's outcome. Now maybe Auria can have the youkai she loves in a respectable amount of time and Sesshoumaru is released from his arrangement made by the parents. I'll try to read more tomorrow until I can catch up to where you are now. We've finally be approved to move into our new house and we are finally getting the feeling we're home to stay. It going to be sometime trying to get the land back to some semblence of normality but at least we ARE HOME!!! Thanks for all the love and concern you you have shown me and I made a mistake when I was aying what my daughter said about you being real friends. she said she has found more true friends through fanfiction than here in the real world only it's a shame we can't talk face to face but that doesn't make the friendship any LESS real. It took amazing sex and gave it a plot. Speaking of sex... those have got to be the longest lemons in recorded history. This story made me stay up until two in the morning, laugh like a hyena, and cry. Congratulations. I loved every minute of it. Your attention to detail is inspiring but there are some mistakes. I think, and I don't know if this is intentional or not, (could be, I don't know your brain that well) that you left the n off the end of the word human, some. Also there were some r's left off of your. I don't know if you wanted constructive criticism or not so please don't take offense if you didn't. This is simply one of the best written fanfics I have ever read. I've never seen such a complete, well-rounded, intense fanfic. I love how no matter how horrible the outlook seems, there's always a smart quip by one of our heros, or a romantic jesture that spurrs the scene. Brilliant work, and I hope you update soon. This is a stunning piece of work! I have been reading it all day and have been completely enthralled the whole time. I'm almost glad it isn't quite finished yet, since that will give me something to look forward to.

The society you created for the Inu is wonderfully detailed and complex. It's an achievement all by itself. It has a very logical layout and feel to it. Perhaps the only part I didn't quite get was the bit about Inuyasha intercepting one of the females each time and Sesshoumaru taking her back as the "prize" female. What happens to the female Sesshoumaru actually couples with each time? And it seemed rather out of character for Inuyasha to be so sexually experienced as that would make him. LOL!! I also found it interesting and ironic that Inuyasha deserted Kagome and "saved" a "raven," (I assume that means a Black), and left her vulnerable to the call in the first place. As her protector, that was HIS screw-up. He had no right to be angry with her at all for "fucking his fucking brother" that night. Those nightly creepings of his finally came back and bit him in the ass. LOL!! I do like it that you don't seem to be pairing him off with anyone in this. I get tired of fics where Inu just HAS to end up with someone if Kagome is with Sesshoumaru.

I loved the way you portrayed Kagome in this, even if she seems a bit too intelligent and too much of a strategist for her age. She's my favorite heroine and I think you hit all of her strengths. Her struggle to prove herself was so well done, and I enjoyed the way she drew the Inu to her. You spelled out her character and appeal and those of her companions beautifully when you talked about how they all stood with her, -- even Kouga, after being rejected.

The thoughts and motivations behind the calculated speeches she and Sesshoumaru gave were brilliant. I can't help but wonder if Sesshoumaru envisions a place for Inuyasha in this New Order? And surprisingly enough, Inuyasha doesn't seem like he would be all that averse to trying it on. The nurturing of Jomen was very interesting.

I am wondering about the Inu concept of mating you have here. Naturally, we readers like for the mating to be exclusive and forever, but Kuro was talking about getting another mate before Gina was killed. And will being mated take Sesshoumaru out of the night calling ritual that brought Kagome to him in the first place? Will they perform some ritual that will prolong her life? (Yes, everybody does it, but really, you just can't leave Sesshoumaru to mourn her now can you? And wrinkly old woman Kaggy with still-hot hunk Sess is kind of an icky thought. LOL!!) Where will Their hanyou children fit into the hierarchy? They won't be in the nursery with the "pups." And really, where will Kagome fit in? If Sesshoumaru is still the Alpha and Auria is the Alpha Bitch, I would think there would be some problems. Ah, and let us not forget that Naraku still needs to be dealt with. How will that fit into their future?

Naturally, you don't have to deal with all that for this to have a beautiful and satisfying ending, but your story has been so complete that I can't stop my mind from traveling down the many avenues you've opened. ^_^

I used to be a real fan of this pairing, but I haven't read many Sess/Kag stories lately, having ventured on into the *gasp* world of crossovers, but I would definitely rank this story among the top 5 Sess/Kags I've read ever. Most of the ones I've glanced at in the past year have been AUs where the author seems to forget who Sess and Kag ARE deep down. But your story has revived my interest in this deliciously forbidden couple. It was a joy and a pleasure to read. Thank you so much for sharing it!

I wish there was some formal way for us to lobby for our favorites. I realize it could get messy, but I have some good reasons.

Shadow has always gotten recognition for her ability to write professional quality erotica - "lemons".

But what SHE HASN'T GOTTEN is the recognition of OVERALL skill and ability.

Let's look at this story:

Action. Yes. Adventure. YES. Romance and Fluff. Yes. AMAZING portrayal of Sesshoumaru and not a MOMENT out of character - YES. Portrayal of Kagome also in character - not the poor, weak, come save me and ravish me type that we often see - Kagome is FULLY in character.

If ever there was a story that warranted a BEST it is this one. Yes, there are other very, very good stories out there. Shadow's other stories... and I can think of two or three other writers who have done very very well.. But overall best Story - this one should have a lock.

Because, in addition to EVERYTHING else, the action, the adventure, the romance, the portrayals of Sesshoumaru and Kagome, the amazingly well written lemons.. in addition to all of that, it was READABLE -- the writing was smooth, the grammar, syntax, spelling, all of that was there.

There are many stories with good plot lines, many stories that are decently written.. but to combine EVERYTHING as Shadow has done in this story is a rarity.

Tell your friends, have them read it.. do what you can. I would be incredibly disappointed if some other story by a more "conventional" writer here took first. Especially since in terms of raw talent, I haven't seen much that comes close to this story this year.

Sorry for the length of this, but I feel strongly about two stories this year, and this is the one I feel most strongly about.

Thanks to all (anyone? lol) who took the time to read through this, and hopefully became just a bit more fired up about ensuring that this story receive the recognition that it should -- not merely for it's lemons, which are in the grand scheme of things, but a small part of Shadow's wonderful and grand talent.

In any case. The review for this story simply was that I'm not complaining about the length. I'm happy - though admittedly forgot with all the action going on - that Kagome would eventually have to go home, but how when she's Sess's Mate? And I absolutely just adore how the question came up and how he asked and how he gave her time to think on it.

I believe you would resolve it as you always do oh Queen of Twists and Turns. Lol.

Before I give my review - LISTEN UP PEOPLE.. Make SURE you nominate this story for ASS awards. Nominations are only to the end of the month, a few short days.

This story should be in Action/Adventure, Best Romance, Best Portrayal Sesshoumaru, Best Portrayal Kagome, Best Lemonfic -- I'm including that, but it goes FAR beyond lemonfic, I want to see us, Shadows' fans, realizing that and making sure she gets the credit she is due.

You all agree, don't you? :) I mean, yes, great lemons, the best out there, but this story is so original, such a great action, adventure, romance - wonderful in character portrayal of Sesshoumaru and also of Kagome -- and Kagome isn't painted as the "save me" helpless girl, she is shown as she is - strong and able, the girl who can stand up for herself, and does.

Overall it's one of the best, if not *the* best, S/K fan fiction I have read in a long time.

Let's accord it the respect it deserves and try to get others to read it and see it that way.

That said, I think my review is implied in all I've said thus far... I'm glad that wasn't the final chapter, I had thought for a moment it was intended to be, until I noticed the "incomplete" status still showing for the story.

Sesshoumaru struggling with himself to understand how it can be that he loves her, accepting it, and taking a very dangerous stand -- all of that seems to be very much in character. It WASN'T a story where he suddenly decides "oh, yes, she's the girl of my dreams" and it's lovey-dovey from there on out -- that is OOC for him. He didn't understand it, didn't accept it, fought it -- and in Sesshoumaru style, when he FINALLY had to accept it, he did, and then went all out -- there was tremendous angst, danger, action, tons of plot, all of it very original, and very well written.

That's not the end right? Anyway, I just love Enai, she's so funny. Kagome and Inuyasha's argument was hilarious. Eww! She had Kuro's blood in her mouth. She had more control than I would have had. I would have hurled. *shudders* That was sick! Big no-no Sesshy.

You do realize that this story is all about the plot and adventure and excellent characterization of Sesshoumaru and Kagome?

It HAS TO BE nominated for awards other than "Oh yes, she writes the best lemons around, just perfect - not coarse, not pornographic, but just perfectly written".

That is absolutely a compliment, but they haven't been acknowledging how well you move plot and pacing, how perfectly you have them In Character, with never an OOC moment; and the plot/action -- surpassed by nothing I've read in a long time.

I think it's time that you were recognized for more than your ability to write the best sex scenes; it's very hard to write them well, to not sound too silly or too coarse and you do it - but that doesn't mean the rest of what you do so well should be eclipsed by that one part of your talent.

My review was almost as long as your chapter, lol -- looking forward to the next one!

The intense emotions in this chapter were wonderfully done. I kept waiting for Inuyasha to me made as Sesshoumaru's brother, and you timed it to perfection.

By the way, I also want to say that I do like the way that you portray Inuyasha in your writing. So many stories plot him almost as a bad guy, abandoning and hurting Kagome. And although I think Sesshy is just the shiznit, I do like Inuyasha as well. Its nice to see him and all the other characters IC. haha I cant wait to see Inuyasha's reaction!! I also love the original characters that you create. They really have so much depth and its like you can imagine them so well, but you dont over do it on the descriptions. I've only just found this story a few days ago, and I apologize for not praising you sooner, but it took me a while to read through it all. You're a marvelous story teller, and I think you have a masterful perception of what you want and need to say along with exactly how to say it. There are few with such talents. Congrats, this is a work of art, and I'm thrilled to be allowed to read it. I look forward to more.

On a less serious note, I'm a huge fan of UFC, but I'm not sure it'll help unless you want the guys rolling around in the dirt trying to make each other tap out...though that is a funny picture. For future reference, I would recommend watching some Jet Li, Jason Statham (hot hot man!!), or Tony Jaa movies. They have AMAZING fight choreography along with some kick-ass stunts that make viewing a pleasure...yeah, two thumbs up and all that jazz.

Summary: Fabulous story, watch movies, and I wish I could have watched the moon, I was up til 3am studying for a test I had today...Until next chapter.

I hadn't expected a new chappie so soon, but I am far from complaining. Great chapter and I look forward to the fight!!

It keeps getting better and better. If this work doesn't get nominated AND win a best story/best romance/ best Sesshoumaru portrayal or such next quarter, I will boycott those award henceforth.

I truly love your ability to write great lemons - to write erotic scenes that aren't coarse yet are explicit and totally wonderful -- BUT that said, your ability to write in general, to tell a story, to keep the plot on the edge of a razor, so sharp and keep all of us clamoring for more is unparalleled.

I can see how this story would get heavy.. I'm glad you are sticking with it though and not letting it go. And I think I see, possibly, a way out of the morass, although with you, and your ability to completely surprise and not be predictable in the slightest, I can't be sure at all. you and chaos are dangerous when allowed to be together. while great fiction results, even greater mischief is created. after reading all of those 'what shoulds' i am reminded of a friend who found it necessary to punish her husband: she washed his underwear with a set of fiberglass curtains. he itched horribly and broke out in a rash. he did finally get new underwear. i made a point of never pissing THAT friend off.

God, I sound like stalker-reader. Hey, big gratz on the award, although you know I think it should have been in the drama, best Sesshoumaru portrayal (it's an excellent Sesshoumaru portrayal - it really annoys me that people can't get past your talent for writing erotic scenes, to see what more there is in your work).

I mean really - Vying for Dominance is one of the most In Character portrayals of Sesshoumaru that I've seen in a long time. He DOESN'T go sappy, he stays the way he is, in character. He has admitted to himself after much back and forth that he does indeed have feelings for her, but that doesn't turn him into someone who fawns over her and everyone be damned.

It should have been nominated for best Sesshoumaru portrayal and we'll have to see what we can do to make sure it is, and have people understand that just because a writer is able to do one thing better than the rest doesn't preclude the ability to do ANOTHER thing better than the rest as well.

In fact one would think it would follow that if you can do this extremely well, you'd be able to do that and the other on the same level.

Now that you've teased us... where is our next chapter? ;)

In all seriousness, if I were writing about this story, reviewing it, or discussing it in writing, I would say that the flow of the chapter was excellent, the idea also very good - it proves her power and her willingness to do for them, to all the assembled, and takes her one step closer to being able to be with him, openly, as a being of equal power.

That is, assuming you are moving in that direction - I hope you are; I love stories in which there is a great difficulty to overcome, and where it is overcome.. but rare is the writer who can execute such a story without it being pat and predictable.

If what I have already said doesn't make it manifestly clear, you are one of those writers - I think the chapter had the right flow, the right tension level, and it was perfect that his blood beast took over at the moment she completed her task and lost consciousness. He HAD been fighting it all along during her healing, his instincts would have to destroy anyone using purifying power on him, but he was able to refrain - until she lost consciousness.

The chapter had that perfect flow and tension level, but it also had the small touches such as the ones I've mentioned above that make it even better.

I love your erotica, but it would be a grave error to say that you only write great erotic scenes - you have the ability and yes, it IS rare, to write excellent erotica and also to write extremely well over-all. With your writing I don't care if there isn't a lemon, I'm not reading for lemons - although when they appear they are wonderful and extremely heated - but I can read for pure reading enjoyment.

I can't say that about too many other writers in the fanfiction world. There are others, but really only a handful. Less than a handful if I were to be entirely truthful.

Brilliantly done, Shadows, we await more.

Ok so I read this chapter six this morning when I woke up to get ready for work. I was so happy, I mean really happy considering I did NOT want to get out of the bed for any reason. Not even if the house was on fire... ok maybe if the house was on fire I would most definitely be up and out the bed in a heartbeat.

Anyway on to the review...
LOVED IT. It's funny how Sess pretty much conned Kagome into keep talking about the subjugation. And Auria seemed quite shock, but hey... she had to do what she had to do. Lol, "Take that up with Kikyo she made the charm." Good one Kagome.
I can so totally see why he would feel awkward.

Shadow my dear you are awesome and an amazing writer. Good job and I will *enter sarcasm* patiently waiting for your next update.

Awe, I liked this chapter! It was cute and fluffy, and full of PUPPIES! It was a very cute diversion, and yet, not quite a tangent as it had points in it that I'm sure will be important to the plot. Nicely done. :)

I swear that has become my most favorite word to say now days.
I read this chapter like six thirty seven o'clock this morning on my way to work (whoever decided internet on a cell phone was a good idea was genius). I was so psyched about this chapter that before I opened it, I was thinking "I wonder if Shaeda ever made it to Inu?" lol, no lie, I'm serious.
Lol, the entire chapter was funny. Inuyasha... just gotta love him and his I'll apologize the way I want to just so you can cough up the info attitude.
and to top all of that of it was super duper early. I thought for sure I was seeing things. Then when I opened it and saw "Apologize" as the title for some strange awkward reason I thought it was an author's note... no idea why I thought that, but I did until I started reading. I had to take a double take before continuing happily like a kid in a candy store. Haha.

I'm so impressed, and was very happy to see another chapter so quickly... I started to read this story on a recommendation, and it's very good, extremely good. I wondered whether you updated frequently or not, since I had read all that there was, then suddenly there were two more chapters.

I am really enjoying this - I found myself thinking about this story when I wasn't reading it, and that doesn't happen often. I think it's highly original, and very well written -- highly original, truly. Not the usual "he finds himself drawn against his will, she falls for him" -- but the sad darkness of it can never be, against the passion of it must be, but how can it be.. and your way of resolving it.

(At least I think that is what is happening, I hope that is what is happening.. I know that some works are great with less than happy endings, but you've written so expressively and convincingly of his certainty that it could never be... I was sure it would end on that note.

Now that she has proven herself, an opening for a possibility has been made.. and it was done in a way I would never have foreseen. His mother, his unwilling assumed mate, all of these add to it... and Kagome's characterization as a strong, powerful, passionate thinking woman is also a revelation. While she is written that way from time to time, this is one of the best, if not the best, portrayal of her as other than passive-but-with-a-fiery-temper. Here she is genuinely powerful and knows it. None of that "I'm not trained so I can't use my power". The scenes in the arena of her using her abilities, the fascinating insights into Inu-Youkai tradition, the double standard that is there, as it is for us today -- all wonderfully done, beautifully written.

I can't wait for more, and hope you will have time to put more chapters up, I can't wait to read what comes next.

Thank you for a wonderful story, this is truly one of the great few.

Just for the record... I love middle of the night updates!! Oh, btw, in chapter 20, you used the term 'up the ante' but spelled it 'up the anti'. Ante is the proper spelling for when it's used in terms of betting, while Anti is used to mean opposing whatever the word paired with it is, like anti-social. I know you probably knew the second part, but I figured I'd say it anyway. What can I say, I'm weird at 2:40 in the morning. xD

Oh, dear Shadow... this was just wonderful! And so VERY InuYasha. Especially the "apology" that wasn't really... "You know I didn't mean it?" But still, completely InuYasha!!

Dear, dear Shadow...hope your Christmas was a happy one. I over exerted myself for the sake of giving my little family a happy day with me awake and a tree with all the trimmings and such so I 've spent alot of time slepping as the fibromyalgia kicked my muscles and locked my jionts up but it was all worth it to see their happy faces. I can see that this last chapter is a building block for some interesting upcoming stuff so I'm just going to sit back and wait for the falling out to begin. I just hope Sesshoumaru doesn't think by giving Kagome to Shaeda that she will now live with him and be his concubine. Having his cake and to eat it too ?? He never said anything about having a proposed mate and I think that might have been an important issue to let her in on before he took her and her heart as well as her precious virginity. It would have been the "honorable" thing to do. I have to say that this fanfiction is wonderful. Every single chapter leaves me at the edge of my seat and anxious to read more. I love how this story can go in so many different directions and isn't trying to rush things along just to ge to the soft ending. Bravo on your work thus far and I look forward to reading more.

actually i think it is good to use the same Oc Characters you as the author made up. it allows the readers to become familar with the character and he or her mannerisms.

I finally caught up with all of your postings on this story and since you asked for comments I thought I would give you mine. I see that you decided to go with a ritual approach to Sesshoumaru and Kagome's coupling. The passages that impressed me most were where Sesshoumaru spent a lot of time passionately kissing Kagome. This seemed to be a special effort on his part and he was doing a hell of a job at it. Also, at the end of chapter 5 when Sesshoumaru answers Kagome's question of what will happen after their time together is over. His explanation is carefully worded and although he knows she will be pained by what he will say, he also tells he what he is doing to make it a positive experience for them both. That was very moving. Now on to chapter 6 or the non-chapter 6. Don't hit me, but I think that I prefer the flow of chapter 6. Somehow it sounds more like you. I know I don't know you from Adam, but I read A LOT. Just that one chapter (6) had me in tears. Kagome is feisty, annoyed, curious, impatient, mischievous. The Kagome in chapters 4 and 5 is much more passive and unsure of herself. She is on an adventure of a lifetime. Each "Kagome" is approaching from a different perspective. Both are good. I don't think you are capable of writing poorly. I just prefer the fire I feel from the non-chapter 6.

I like the sixth psuedo chapter as well. My favorite mini scene is the last one about memories. I hope you have a chance to work it in somewhere... if not, it can always be used for another time or another place. Well done! I look forward to the next chapters

I once tried (looong ago) writing fanfiction as well. but it sucked so it never got past the very first stages - doesn't mean that I didn't have lots of ideas though! And I could never quite settle on one and was reluctant to delete something that was good, but didn't fit into the plot.
I don't know if you feel the same way - obviously you write quite a lot and I don't know how often you rewrite, but I liked the scenes you posted here and I think it would be an interesting.... project I guess you could say, if you posted all your "unusable" ideas separately. For example stuff that you wrote for one of your fics, but couldn't use because it didn't fit into the plot.
Post it! Readers (or at least I do) like to be involved. and it's also interesting to see where the story could have gone, yet went in another direction. I bet you'd also get a lot of feedback and maybe future inspiration?

Ok, so I've been under a drug induced stupor for a few days (my new pain meds aren't mixing well with my newly repaired heart and a few of the others meds I take, so I've slept for 2 days) and you go and update. Well from the length of the chapters, I got a great read when I was able to get online tonight. It's a good thing I'm still feeling groggy or else I'd be alittle miffed at the time it's taking them to do the "mad, wild, passionate monkey dance" Shadow style. You KNOW you make one of the BEST recipes for lemonade I've ever had the pleasure of consuming. No medication can make me forget the tangy sweet but tartness of it.
