My Father's Will

Well, I figure I can give a little background to this story before I start it. This takes place before the Final Act. I just recently came up with the idea for this story and I haven't really seen anything like it. It IS cannon, so it sort of follows the series to an extent with obvious differences. This is the first Cannon story that I've written, so I hope you go easy on me and please review to let me know where I can improve.

I do not own Inuyasha or Co.

Enjoy!

Near silent foot steps could be heard as a tall, silver haired youkai strode down the hall and pushed his way into a double door room. When the amber eyed youkai made his way in, the youkai around a table in the middle stood. Once he was at the head of the table, he signaled for them to sit after he sat.

"Fill me in." He ordered.

A small, brown haired youkai at the far end of the table stood and hastily gave him some scrolls, "The enemy troops have breached the southern boarder. They are coming in the thousands." His small dog like ears twitched slightly on top of his head, "Secondly, your father's will is coming into affect soon, Lord Sesshomaru."

"My father's will?" Sesshomaru's eyes narrowed, and he sat back into his seat, "Such a ridiculous thing." He continued to think to himself, 'First he gives me the useless sword,' He then questioned, "Now what does it demand of me?"

The small youkai's ears flattened on his head, "You are to seek a mate... by the beginning of your five-hundredth summer. You are on your last summer."

"I shall worry on that at a later time." He unrolled on the of the scrolls and looked it over, "Is there anyone out there who is neutral to this or not our enemy?"

Another man stood, and spoke clearly, "Yes, my lord, but she is... not someone who you are fond of." Sesshomaru looked up from the scroll as if to tell him to continue, "The lady of the Central lands."

He looked back down at the scroll, then after a few silent moments, he mentally sighed, "Is this our only option?"

"The central lands is the only one that is neutral to this, but if the Southern and Eastern lands find out, they will go to them next simply for the power." His adviser bowed his head, "And while we understand your... dislike for her, she is extremely powerful. If they get to her first, we will be destroyed."

A few more moments of silence passed and Sesshomaru pinched the bridge of his nose, "I shall leave for the Central lands tomorrow. You and a small escort shall accompany." Sesshomaru stood and left the room.

Into the next day, they had made it less than a few miles into the border of the Central lands. Sesshomaru and his party were prepared to come across scouts for Central lands. He was mentally growling at the thought of being in an alliance with this woman. She was young and new Lady of Lands, but apparently he didn't have much choice.

As they got closer, they could see a small group of soldiers ahead that was clearly waiting for them - she knew they were coming.

They stopped before them and the guards recognized Sesshomaru and bowed, "State your business, Lord Sesshomaru."

He grunted at the way they addressed him, "We come to speak with the Lady of your lands with negotiations."

The guards stood there for a moment, then looked at each other, then back at the post they stood originally at, "Drop the barrier!"

Behind the post, the air around them seemed to shimmer, then before them a palace materialized. They were almost floored by the pure youki that poured out from behind the barrier.

The palace was surrounded by cherry blossoms and ponds with koi fish in them. The palace itself was white stone with waterfalls behind it, giving it a heavenly appearance. Behind it all was a large mountain that smoked from the top.

Behind the barrier stood a woman who's eyes glowed white, "Come within. I shall replace the barrier once inside."

The travel party entered, some more amazed than others. Once inside the boarder of the barrier, the woman's eyes darkened to a black and the barrier shimmered into place.

A few more guards came forth and bowed, "We shall escort you to the Lady's thrown room."

Entering the grand palace, the entry hall was large with a wide red rug that lead to into the throne room. The rug traveled all the way into middle of the room, then expanded and up a couple of steps that lead to the throne chair itself. On each side of the rug along the way were fawn like creatures that held a staff, standing straight and not moving, but clearly prepared to attack.

Once they got to the first steps, they faced two centaurs on each side of the thrown chair, holding huge battle axes. Next to the chair on either side was a man and woman kneeling on plush pillows.

Sitting in the throne chair was a raven haired beauty. Her eyes were a striking blue color that was unusual for a Japanese native. On her cheeks were silver stripes, along with her wrists. Her eyes were lined with black and on her forehead was a black star. She wore a red kimono with black hexagonal flowers along the sleeves with a white obi with yellow tips. Her hair was braided simply, with the end hanging over here shoulder.

All the travel party, but Sesshomaru knelt down and bowed. Her eyes looked them all over, before standing, she bowed to Lord Sesshomaru, "Welcome, Lord Sesshomaru."

He bowed back to her and watched as she sat back down, "Thank you for welcoming me to your lands, Lady Kagome."
