Ch.1 Betrayal

Author: Okay, so this sight was recommended to me by a reader of mine on fanfiction.  I thought i would give it a shot. This is my first post on Dokuga. Just to put this out there, im sorry in the beginning for the plot line. I know its unoriginal, but it gets better! i swear it! and there will be violence, language, and sexual content. I hope you enjoy!

Disclaimer: I do NOT own Inuyasha or any of the characters.

Prologue:    Kagome has been traveling with the group for over 3 years, but they still haven’t found Naraku yet.(shocker) About 5 months prior to this story, Kagome lost her house, and most of her family to a sudden fire at her shrine. The cause is still unknown, but the only survivor was her brother, who was over at a friends house that night. Kagome was devastated, and took refuge in her small ‘family’ in the futile era. Sota was forced to move away to their godparents in Kiyoto(sorry if its spelled wrong), and Kagome was believed to have burned in the fire. Not even her brother knew she was still alive. The well had been saved, but half of its roof had been badly charred and burnt away. She no longer needed to go to school, or even go back to her present time. Everyone comforted her, and she slowly began to recover from her shock. Now they are still on the hunt for the jewel shards, and though Kagome is strong, she has been considerably weekend by this tragedy.

Ch.1 Betrayal

The wind whisked against her face as she ran blindly into the dark, merciless forest. Tears fell swiftly through her unblinking, pained eyes. He had finally broken her. Shattering her into thousands of pieces, watching all the while with a sickening smirk on his face. Forever she would be broken. No matter how hard she tried, her heart would never be whole again. A piece of her would always remain with him. A shattered gem in the midst of a black ocean. Lost. Forgotten.

Flashback:

“Kikyo,” Inuyasha voice was full of a longing that Kagome had never heard before, making her heart sink at the sound. He embraced her in a passionate hug, holding her close and tenderly. Kagome peered form behind a distant, large tree, spying on Inuyasha.

She had decided to go for a walk, leaving Inuyasha to watch Shippo and Kirara, to relax from the hard days of jewel hunting and scouring the country side. The calmness of the woods always comforted her, sending a peaceful sensation through her body that could ease and stress. As she strolled along, she saw soul collectors in the distance.

‘Kikyo’ was her only thought. As she followed them, she heard talking and laughing. It was Kikyo…and Inuyasha. Kagome ducked behind a nearby large tree, hiding herself from the miko she was a re-incarnation to.

An agonizing pain burned in her chest as she watched the two. ‘He looks so happy…even if he did have feelings for me…I’ll never be Kikyo. I’ve never seen him this happy with me…maybe she is better for him…far better then me.’ Her gaze drifted back to the couple, a wary look in her eyes. She shuffled farther behind the tree, attempting to become invisible. Kikyo caught a flash of her reincarnation whom she detested. For she was the reason Inuyasha was not in hell with her right now. Her thoughts brewed as she contemplated a way to upset the little wench. Pushing Inuyasha away, she looked at the ground, a mask of worry and sadness on her face.

“What’s the matter Kikyo?” Inuyasha looked concerned down at the miko he loved with his entire being.

“Inuyasha…what does that Kagome girl mean to you?” Her voice was innocent and coated with a fake sadness, only Kagome caught. Disgust crossed her face as she realized what Kikyo was up to. ‘Is she still jealous of me?! But…I do want to hear what Inuyasha says..’ Kagome thought, and unthinkingly leaned towards the pair.

“K-Kikyo…wha-…what do you mean?” Shock coated his voice at the spontaneous question, unable to answer.

“Tell me! What does that other miko mean to you?..Does…does she mean more to you then I do…does she?” At Inuyasha’s pause, Kikyo’s face grew genuinely worried, thinking she did mean something to him. More to him then she would have liked. Noticing this, Inuyasha quickly responded to her with a reassuring tone.

“No…no. She, she’s just a jewel detector. Nothing important. Kagome means nothing to me and never will! I love you Kikyo, and only you. Forever.” His voice grew tender as he pulled her into a sweet gentle, but needy kiss. At that, Kagome’s heart shattered into a million pieces. Each piece scattering into the unknown, never to become a whole heart again. For three years she had walked by his side, aiding and healing him, putting up with his mood swings and running off to his little clay pot. But…even after all this time…though she considered everyone her family…she meant nothing. Blindly, she ran began to run back to the campsite, staggering along the way.

End flashback:

Tears of betrayal streamed down her pale face as she ran. The aching, burning pain in her chest had become unbearable. All she wanted to do was rip out her heart and throw it where she would never feel this again. To be empty, to feel nothing.

‘I knew I meant nothing. All these years I put up with him and helped him… and I always knew I could never replace Kikyo, and I never tried. But…when he looks at me…I know he’s thinking about Kikyo…but…I never thought I meant nothing to him. I really am worthless. Now he has her precious jewel shard detector, there was no need for useless Kagome to stick around any longer. I’ll just cause everyone to fall behind.

As the campsite came into view, the fire was dim, and Shippo and Kirara lay asleep on Kagome’s sleeping bag. Another pain washed through her body as she thought about what she was about to do. As quietly as she could, she dug through her bag for pen and paper. Once she found it, she scribbled as fast as she could through blurry eyes:

Dear Gang,

I’m sorry I had to leave so suddenly. Don’t come looking for me. I’m sorry I couldn’t say goodbye either, but…its better this way. I couldn’t do it. This is for the best. You are all family to me and I will miss you so much. You were the last thing I had, but this is for the best.

Sango, you are the sister I never had and my best friend. You were always there for me and you will never be replaced in my heart. I could never forget you. I never could have survived without you.

Miroku, you are one of the sweetest, most kind hearted men I’ve ever met, grant you are sometimes perverted. You will forever be in my heart, a great friend, family. And while I’m away, try not to grope Sango as much. I don’t think you cheek will hold up much longer.

Shippo, you were the son I never had. So sweet, gentle, and brave for others. You will forever be my kit. You could always tell my emotions before anyone else, and comforted me with your warm smile. When you grow up, you will be an amazing fox demon. And on our journeys, you have grown and improved greatly. I’ll leave as much coloring and snacks as I have. I love you my little Shippo.

Kirara, you took care of us all. Gentle and sweet. Fierce in battle, but an amazing friend through it all. Take care of Sango while I’m gone. I will miss you.

Inuyasha…I know…

-Love,

Kagome

Tears stained the paper as she wrote her heart out, and folded it, labeling in, Kagome. Quickly, realizing everyone would be coming back soon, she dumped all of the things she had promised, leaving her medical equipment as well. She lifted her big yellow backpack, feeling the odd lightness of it on her back with discomfort. It wasn’t normal. Nothing would be normal again. Her feet began to carry her forward, her head turning to throw one last glance at her friends, her family.

“Goodbye,” she whispered into the dim breeze, and began to run. The pain overwhelmed her, and she felt detached from her body. Tears streamed continuously down her face as she let herself sink into darkness. For hours she ran blindly on pure adrenaline, stopping only once to catch her breath, only to continue. She had to find her way back to the well and go back to a time that she belonged in. A time were life is simple and she weighed no one down. After a while, her legs grew soar and unsteady, shaky with exhaustion. Slowly, she came to a stop in front of a stream, and knew that water masked scents so if they did come looking for her, she wouldn’t be traceable. By now, the tears had stopped and she was numb. Empty.

She stepped in the stream, the icy water feeling heavenly on her soar, exhausted legs. Carefully, she traveled down stream, watching her footing on the slippery, sharp rocks. The water rose to her knees, and soon was at her waist. She had walked down stream for miles until it became a river. Thinking she had masked her sent enough, she waded her way out of the stream. As she waded, the current was surprisingly strong, forcing her sideways. Just as she about reached the shore line, her footing slipped and she plunged into the black ice water. Her body caught in the swift current, and began to drag her forward, submerging her head. Shock overwhelmed her, causing her muscles to freeze and body to shut down. Suddenly, she realized she needed to move. Survival mode kicking in, she attempted to swim, but to no avail.

This is bad! What do I do?! I’m running out of air!!’ her thoughts were frantic as the pace of the current increased. The stream grew deeper and a low hum could be heard. Just as Kagome had given up hope, her head breached the surface, gasping for air. A thrumming and rumbling grew in the distance of a calm looking river. Under her, the current grew swifter yet, Kagome’s mind clicking. A Waterfall. Her hopes sank as she was toad towards her 200 foot drop death. Fear welled up inside of her, there was no escape. She would die, never to see her family, her time again. As the current increased, so did the downward pull on her body. Glancing up, she took one last look at the world, a crescent moon being the last thing she saw. Then her vision was engulfed by black.

Her life flashed before her eyes, and she wondered what life would have been like if she hadn’t fallen through the well. She could have gone out with Hojo, kept her straight A’s, lived the life of a normal teenage girl of the 21st century. She closed her eyes as her body began to plummet into nothingness. ‘Goodbye’ was her last coherent thought before her body smacked hard against the waters surface like cement. Her vision went black as the water pushed her under, pinning her to the icy bottom of the lake floor.

….Thump…Thump………….Thump…………………Thump………………..Thump…………………………………………………………..Th-……. And Kagome Higirashi’s heart sputtered a beat for the last time. Now she truly didn’t exist in the world. Never to feel the pain and heartache again, never to be a burden. Now she was only a memory, a memory of a soul that should have never been in this time. She was truly freed from the pain in her heart.

Author: Please, read and review. I hope you enjoyed the first chap! Intense, I know. It only gets better from here! Don’t fret, Sesshomaru will be in the story soon.
