Leave it to the Professionals

So there he stood sulking next to a very large tiki statue dressed in a sky blue, short-sleeved, polo shirt tucked into his tan khaki pants. His hair was tied back into a low tail and his bangs hung over his forehead slightly ruffled from the light wind. His sunglasses with rosewood colored lenses covered his eyes. He was a sight for any women to ogle, but he didn't care for any other women, the only woman he cared about, was the one that was currently not ogling him.  She was pre-occupied by her mothers-in-laws, who were filling her plate up as they chatted away. She stood nodding her head, looking stunning in a turquoise and green silk floral halter dress, which stopped a little below her knees. She tastefully fit the theme of the party.

Twenty minutes ago he had arrived with his wife to be greeted not by his family or anyone he knew, but some women he assumed were from the event planning staff. They then tried to touch him. He was not a happy youkai. Kagome had taken the horse shoe-shaped lei from the obviously frighten woman and placed it around his neck. Not even two seconds later he had ripped off the lei and promptly sneezed.

He had seen that look on his wife's face after he sneezed; she was trying not to laugh. Her lips pressed together, the corner of them lifted into a grin, and her eyes twinkling. It was moments like these Sesshoumaru remembered exactly why he was head over heals in love with his wife. She then asked if they had a fragrance-free lei, to which they handed her a lei consisting of thousands of tiny tubular orange-red flowers. Kagome then placed it over his head and lead him to the back lawns where the party was being held. As they stepped out on to the terrace, Kagome was suddenly sweep off by Izayoi and his mother, Meidouko, leaving him there, alone and irritable. Not even a backward glanced at him, as they lead her away towards all the succulent Polynesian food at the buffet table.

Sesshoumaru once again wondered exactly why he was here at this ridiculous party when he could be at home cuddling with Kagome and awaiting the arrival of their little girl in peace.  Instead he had allowed both his wife and his mother to persuade him to coming to luau themed anniversary party his father was throwing. Luau themed, why would anyone want a themed anniversary party? It was utterly tacky for someone of his father's status to even have such a party. Kagome on the other hand, thought the idea suggested by Inuyasha was fantastic.  He should have known something that ridiculous was suggested by the hanyou.

Completely lost in thought until he heard a loud screeching- yip from the other side of the lawn. While he was trying to figure out why it sounded so familiar, He didn't notice that his little goddess standing beside him till her elbow ended up nudging his ribs.

"Here you go," she said handing him the plate of food the mothers had prepared for her. "Also, your mother wants to know why you're sulking here in the corner Sesshoumaru," her attention returning to the large bowl she was cradling in her arm.

Sesshoumaru's jaw ticked slightly embarrassed at being caught, especially by one's mother.

"I am not sulking mate, just contemplating," he replied as he took a sniff at the food. It did smell very delicious.

Kagome looked up at him, after taking a bite of her little snack, "Sure you're not Sesshoumaru, and I'm not as big as a cow."

He was about to tell her again, that she was not fat, when he noticed she was digging around in that bowl. Curious, he asked, "What are you eating that seems so much better then the food you handed me?"

Kagome grinned up at him and held the bowl out towards him. There in the bowl were hundreds of lime slices.

Raising an eyebrow at her, before he took her bowl and lead her to a table, so she could enjoy her lime slices seated, and hopefully her plate of food as well before he asked, "Pray tell, where did you get all those limes Gome-chan?"

After sucking all the juice out of the slice in her hand, "It seems that Inuyasha and Kouga had gotten into another argument and somehow both ending up agreeing to a contest. Miroku came up with it after he finished eyeing the hula dancers swaying hips, who were surrounded by Samoan fire dancers." Kagome replied, picking up another lime slice and smacking Sesshoumaru's hand as he tried to eat some of the untouched food on the plate she had handed him earlier.

She continued, "The contest was to see who could eat fire. As they were agreeing to the terms, your father seems to have felt left out. He took a fire torch from a performer and stuck it in his mouth. Izayoi and Meidouko are tending to him now."

Sesshoumaru now knew why the yip was so familiar. Looking at Kagome and the bowl of citrus, "That doesn't explain how the limes came into your possession Gome-chan," he said.

Glancing from her limes and plate of food with a look of indecision, she replied, "When Izayoi and Meidouko ran off to help Togaou, I helped myself to the limes when the bartenders were helping Miroku break up another fight. Inuyasha and Kouga started fighting about who caused your father to eat the fire." Kagome then finally decided she wanted both the limes and the food. She started squeezing the limes over her plate and taking a bite before speaking, "You should try the seared Mahi-mahi. Its really good!"

Sesshoumaru rubbed his temples and knew he should have demanded they stay home today.

"Hnn," was his only reply when Kagome called out his name.

"What do you think fire taste like?"
