“Look at me, Kagome!” Sesshomaru pleaded, his authoritative voice dripping with desperation.

Kagome shook her head, squeezing her eyes shut, allowing tears to stream down her cheeks. “N-No...” Her voice was broken with despair. How could she possibly look at him after what she just witnessed?

“Kagome, please!” Sesshomaru pleaded once more, grabbing hold of the Miko's shoulders. “Look at me...”

As a sob bubbled up from her chest, and escaped her lips, Kagome granted Sesshomaru's request. When her sad gaze met his, she shook her head is bewildered sorrow.
