Usually dialogs are put inbetween quotation marks ("), the you have them makes it feel like they're thinking and not speaking.

Great first chapter. The only thing I would recommend is going back into your summer and correcting the spelling on the word "through". I almost didnt click on this story because I thought it would be riddled with errors. I'm happy that I'm wrong, and cant wait to read what happens next!
