Kagome kneeled on the ground, the pebbles in the dirt digging into her scraped knees. Her sapphire eyes wide, she gazed in awe at the back of the daiyoukai. His white silver hair glowed beneath the sun's rays, glistening like woven strands of diamond. His white silk hakama fluttered in the breeze as the long, trailing sleeves of his hoari whispered in the wind.

'Se-Sesshoumaru...'

Suddenly, she felt a small hand clamp on her shoulder. Blinking, the miko glanced to her side. Rin stood beside her beaming. Her young face was glowing with admiration for the demon Lord that stood before the two human girls protectively. Rin's doe-brown eyes peered at her Lord with obvious love.

"It is okay, Kagome-chan. Sesshoumaru-sama will protect you." Rin stated brightly.

Kagome stared at the child. The way Rin had stated those words with absolute loyalty and belief seemed to shake her. The deep sense of loyalty and the level of trust the young child placed in the daiyoukai was astounding. The miko looked over at Sesshoumaru hesitantly and couldn't help the flutter in her heart at the glorious image he made. He looked like a vengeful angel about to release its wrath upon a doomed soul.
