"We will outlive the stars," whispered Sesshomaru with a tiny smile on his lips.
"Hn," commented Kagome tiredly, "I'm not sure humans are meant to live for so long."
Sesshomaru purred to offer the little comfort he could. He had put her through enough hardships as it was, "You are no simple human."
"And no demon either," added Kagome knowingly, her golden eyes staring up ahead at the twinkling stars.
"Something else," the daiyoukai said, a pleased undertone on his voice, "Like my mate should be, different and special."
Kagome chuckled at his usual bit of arrogance, "I don't know many things, but what I know is...you will always be here, with me."
Another purr was born on his throat, "There's nowhere else to go," he mocked, "I offered protection when I marked you, I would not be able to honor my word otherwise."
The ex-miko rolled her eyes, "Honor, as always."
A smirk lit the daiyoukai's lips, "There's something more."
At this Kagome glanced down at him but only the top of his silver hair was visible, "Hn. What?"
"Admiration," he said simply and snuggled closer to her chest, "You've become a wise ruler."
A big smile, born of pride and happiness at being recognized, appeared on her thin lips, "Yeah...but I would have never succeeded, if not for my wise consort."
"Hn," praised the daiyoukai, "I'm glad to see you have not forgotten who placed you where you are."
Kagome rolled her eyes and growled playfully, "Believe me, I haven't forgotten who placed me in this mess in the first place." She nudged him with her elbow.
"The half-breed, of course, I haven't forgotten him either," he replied back evasively.
At the end, she just sighed and once again turned to the dark sky, the twinkling stars and the Crescent Moon.
Woof! Yup, this is a small spoiler for Primero. Sorry for those who didn't want to read it :D

I absolutely love When the Past is the Future. It was my first fanfic and even when it didn't get much support here, it did in FFnet :)
