Imli Se Khatta...
Picture information
Description:
... is line from the Hindi song 'Ishq Bina' and roughly translates as "as sour as tamarind". Or something like that. Heh.
Fanart for chapter 2 of Ijin's "Besides" (found on ff.net). I was trying to illustrate the bit where Kagome was lamenting that she was about to turn a hundred years old. Poor kid.
You may zoom into the picture to examine the beautiful patterns. Mehndi design brushes used extensively here are from seleneheart.deviantart.com.
Trivia: I took too long with this one as I deliberated the colours too much. Heh. The Indian culture is very close to home and heart; the spouse is Indian and so is the best friend. ;) And I used to wear kurtas a lot back in my undergrad days because they're sooooo comfortable and breezy. If you are interested in the condensed process of this artwork, from sketch to the final product, you can see it here.
Enjoy!
Addendum: If you guys are wondering about the song from which I took the picture's title, you can listen to it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CP-OBgfgvy0 . It has subtitles, so it's easier to appreciate the lyrics. ;)

I'm really glad you like it :) I'll admit that the colour scheme of the first coloured draft which I shared with you was embarrassingly horrid! LOL. And I wish I could claim credit for all the lovely ethnic patterns used here. If I were to draw evey single pattern manually... well, we'll all be old and grey before I'll ever get this picture posted!
