The Lady and the Dragonfly
Sitting atop a reed the dragonfly took in his domain. If he could he would of heaved a sigh. This was the location of his coming of age into adulthood. With its many weeping willows surronding the area as well as tall regal cattails and various reeds the extra cover had allowed him to master dizzying areial dynamics and hone his survival skills to razor sharp awareness.
He was an albino dragonfly with bright magenta markings along with matching magenta eyes. Like other albinos in the wild, his coloring put him at a large disadvantage for survival. He still didn't sit on his laurels as being the fastest, most agile dragonfly at his pond because he had witnessed all to often what that brought about.... certain death.
Spring had come and gone and it was now mid summer. He had already mated twice with two very willing females but he was feeling the pull to move on to a larger location. He decided to wait until dusk for his very perilous journey. As the sun dipped low on the horizon he set off in the direction that his senses detected a large body of water.
Locating his new home was surprisingly uneventful. He did notice however many large koi swimming gracefully in the waters of his new home. Flying around near the lower branches of the nearby trees he took in his surroundings. Beautiful gardens as well as three fountains graced his new home. One of the fountains had marbles in it so the honeybees and other insects could drink without drowning or predation. He noticed a thriveing bee colony and many areas of the garden that were butterfly and hummingbird friendly. He had found a paradise! He also noticed a large human dwelling that backed up to the gardens. Settling in for the evening he decided he would investigate more in the morning.
Morning brought a breakfast of a small minnow. Being the apex predator on the wing in the insect world, the astute male noticed the minnow and breakfast was served. Preening after his meal he decided investigating his new surroundings were in order. Zipping throught the low branches of the tree he noticed a human walking throught the gardens. Curious, he flew down into one of the many butterfly gardens that provided ample cover to observe the human.
Kagome sighed as she started her morning ritual. The amazing gardens as well as the chef inspired kitchen was the only thing she enjoyed about her life at the manor. She has been married now for two years. She snorted...married in name only. Her husband had nothing to do with her. They didn't even consummate the wedding night. To all the outside world they appeared the loving couple, but at home He always retreated to his home office than left for the evening to God only knows only to return around one or two in the morning. This was her life...and she told no one. So she was stuck here in an arranged marriege, her only thought that she had to be the good daughter and serve out this life sentence of pure agony.
The dragonfly was intrigued. He hadn't seen many humans. This one was actually pretty to him. Her hair long was black with bluish tint when she moved her head. And her eyes were the most amazing shade of blue...did he imagine her eye color? All humans had brown eyes didn't they? He zipped toward the ethereal creature to get a closer look. Kagome caught a blur flying past her, turning around quickly she saw one of the most beautiful dragonflys she had ever seen alight on one of the butterfly bushes. She couldn't help but not to smile.
She approched slowly. Watching the insect breath quickly as his thorax rose and fell she was amazed at his beauty and size. "Your the most beautiful thing I have seen in this garden" she exclaimed. She was turning her head as she was studying the sight before her as she noticed that the small wonder before her was doing the same. Was he mimicing her actions? Enchanted she lifted a finger only to have the bold insect fly up and alight on her finger. She smiled and hummed a tune, feeling like she was a child again. The dragonfly took off and she followed it to the koi pond. Watching in amazment, she watched him execute daredevil acrobatics of flight, only to zip along the waters surface and come up with a small minnow, amazing! She almost felt like he was showing off.
Watching him eat the minnow she stated " I shall name you Sesshoumaru, because you are the ultimate predator and killing perfection of your kingdom." She laughed. The dragonfly marveled at the sound the female made. It was more beautiful than windchimes. Kagome's smile slowly melted away. What would it be like to live this free? To fly at the speeds her new found little friend here flew at? To live life at the fullest in this beautiful garden with not a care in the world? The dragonfly noticed the waves of sorrow coming off the beautiful Goddess that stood before him and wondered on it.
It was then when a horrible noise surrounded the area. A large human male walked toward the female and he noticed she tensed. It was then that he noticed another males scent on the male. The dragonfly didn't understand. Why would the male want another male when he had this female all to himself. He wished that there was something he could do. The emotions that the female gave off was disturbing him. He was afaid that harm would come to this gentle human creature.
The next day the dragonfly flew the entire gardens all day. He didn't see the human female. He was so caught up in finding her he almost became a meal for a barn swift. Hiding out in one of the rose bushes near the house he started his mission again as soon as the bird disappeared. It was when he flew by one of the many kitchen windows that he saw her. She was hobbling like something was wrong with her leg. Sitting on the windowpane he wished she could see him. It was then that the female looked up and there was something wrong with her eyes... they were leaking water.
Seeing the dragonfly at the window Kagome approached it slowly. Raising her hand and putting in on the glass facing her beautiful Sesshoumaru she was amazed that he didn't move....
"I wish I could fly with you, be free as the wind and love you everyday. Even if our lives will end before early winter..." She mused.
"I wish you could be with me, by my side. And I will never leave you until the end of my days....." Sesshoumaru wished.
It was then that a miracle happened. One of the Kamis above smiled on the two beings below. Kagome's clothes dropped to the floor, empty. At the same moment a beautiful blue black female dragonfly appeared beside the albino male. Her bright cobalt blue eyes glittered with mirth. The albilo male's magenta eyes glowed with happiness and they were both off at a dizzy breakneck speed to the koi pond. There they spent the rest of their lives, which was the rest of the summer up until the first hard freeze in total bliss.....
