Wake Up Call

"Ugh!! What?!?" The shrill sound of my ringtone is blaring through the early morning. I groan to myself as I blindly slap my phone on the bedside table to stop that infernal racket. To my relief it stops ringing, but as soon as I celebrate the quiet, it goes off AGAIN.
I glance at the screen to see 'Rin-Tin' across the top with a photo of us back in college, graduation day. Those were the days of uncomplicated youth and vigor when we felt like we could take on the world. Oh Rin, I miss you!!
"Hello?" I answer groggily.
"It's been a year, my dear, time to get your ass up!"
"Why good morning Rin, great to hear from you this morning!" I chirp to her sarcastically.
"Up and at it higurashi." I know she's secretly laughing at me because she knows she woke me up, evil little...
"Rin!!" I whine. I know I'm being a baby, but I am not a morning person at all!
"Why did you have the need to wake me up at the butt crack of dawn for?"
"First of all, it's 10am" "
"Yah, where YOU live!"
"Which means it's 7am for you" she continues on totally ignoring my interjection.
"And sunrise occurred at 6:09am Hawaii standard time, so it's not quite the butt crack, but more like the ass cleavage of morning" she ends all business like. "
"Oh my god! Where do u get your material?!" I choke between peals of laughter.
She snickers, "shippo, he's able to provide me with copious amounts of entertainment. And in the bedroom too".
I know she's waggling her eyebrows up and down as she said that.
"You're such a horn dog! Can't you have an adult conversation with me without mentioning or thinking about sex?"
Because really, the last thing I need is sex talk. Cause she's right, it's been over a year since I've had any, & it seems that her libido got kicked in to overdrive with her pregnancy. "
"Ugh, when you're 6 months pregnant and horny all the dam time, come talk to me."
"Oh the woes of being pregnant. Being horny is such a hardship when I have a smoking hot husband to do me."
Yeah, I'm feeling just a smidgen of bitterness.
"Oh Kagome, it's been a year, we agreed that if you didn't get out of your funk, I'd pull you out. Hence the reason for my phone call."
She's right. 1 year ago today, I buried a part of my heart. And we agreed that she would rescue me from myself if I didn't move on with my life.
I heave a sigh, "you're right. I know what we agreed upon. I know he'd want me to be happy and..." "
"Live, laugh, love" Rin finishes for me. I smile at her through the phone.
"I miss you Rin-tin-tin" I call her, the nickname I gave her in college.
"Miss you too Kaggie." She says in a soft breath.
"So, about my early phone call this morning"
Seems she's back to business.
"I know it's the anniversary date of when we buried your husband, but to commemorate him, we're going to celebrate you."
