Living a Life of Crime on the Run

Kagome walks through the market. She looks around for food that she might be able to buy. Shippo sits on her shoulder. He nudges her. "Kagome, we can't afford any of this. We should just leave and try foraging for food."

"No Shippo. You need to eat. You have not eaten a proper meal in over a week. I will get you food." Kagome whispers back to him. He sighs. Kagome spots a small slab of meat that no one was paying attention to. She walks towards it inconspicuously. She snatches it and hides it under her cloak. She walk back towards where they are camped at.

"Hey! Stop that thief!" Someone shouts. "Shit!" Kagome thinks as she bolts. Shippo clings on to her shoulder as she runs. Kagome hears the subtle sound of footsteps. She knows they are after her. After all, who else could be the thief they were shouting about? She uses her miko powers to enhance her senses, stamina, and speed. She feels someone claw at her cloak. She speeds up.

The person is persistent however. They keep their hold on her cloak. She sighs and unleashes a small amount of her miko powers. She hears hisses and smirks. Kagome did not want to use her powers but the yokai had left her no other option. She hears them cursing about her. She shrugs. That doesn't bother her. After all, InuYasha has called her worse names, much much worse names, in the past. It makes you sort of numb after a while. You get used to it, you know?

Kagome strains her hearing to see if she can hear anything suspicious. The forest is silent. Maybe a little too silent. She shrugs the foreboding feeling off. But just to be safe, she runs around in a confusing pattern so that if anyone is following her, they will most likely get lost. Finally, after about twenty minutes, more or less anyway, she walks the path to their encampment.

They sit down. Silence dominates the camp as Kagome cooks the meat so that there is only a thin layer of cooked meat and the rest is raw. She hands the slab of meat to Shippo and says goodnight. He shakes his head. "No Kagome. You haven't eaten in quite a long time either." He rips a strip of meat off of the slab and hands it to Kagome. She sighs but slowly eats it to appease Shippo. He smiles and nods. "See? That's better now isn't it?"

"Yeah." Kagome lies. Shippo smiles brightly and proceeds to eat his meal. Kagome lays down. Shippo crawls over to her after he finishes eating. She smiles and begins to sing softly to him as she runs her fingers through his red hair. He falls asleep clinging to her with a smile on his face. Kagome wraps her arms around him and he snuggles into her. She drifts off to sleep.

*Kagome's pursuers*

"Finally! The bitch finally went to sleep." One snarls. He feels a twinge of guilt but brushes it off. She must be punished for her crime even if she does have a child. There are no exceptions to the law. He motions for them to go.

They sneak into her camp and kidnap Kagome and Shippo. Somehow, the two stay asleep. The leader hefts Kagome onto one shoulder and Shippo onto the other. They set off to the palace. The ruler will decide the girl's fate.

*Dawn*

They are about thirty minutes away from the castle when Kagome starts stirring in her sleep. She mumbles something about Naraku. Kagome mumbles something else that the leader can not quite make out. "What an interesting development. I'm certain that he will find this very interesting." The leader thinks.

They arrive at the gates. They tell the guards why they are here and are permitted to enter. They walk towards the throne room. They knock and hear "Enter."They enter and bow.

"Sire, we found this girl stealing." The leader says.

"And why have you brought her to me? A petty thief?" The ruler asks with no emotion, just an eyebrow quirked. The leader gulps before he continues.

"I figured you would want to talk to her-"

"And why is that?" The ruler interrupts. Once more, the leader gulps. He breaks out in a nervous sweat.

"Because she mentioned something about a man named Naraku. Is Naraku not the one you are hunting?" The ruler perks up on this. He gestures and some guards enter.

"Take her and put her in my room. Now, you may leave." With that the ruler dismisses them.
