It had been almost a century since he had stepped into this village. The death of his ward was a pain he was unaccustomed to dealing with, he stopped visiting after her funeral. But this was an exception, his animosity for his half-brother was not so strong that he wouldn't pay his respects. He made his way down the familiar path, much had changed yet it was still the same. He observed the young hanyo children playing joyfully nearby, which was by now a normal occurrence here. He passed by several villagers, only a few stopping to look at him before he stopped in front of the large hut he knew to be his half-brothers home. The door was open and voices could be heard from inside. He entered the occupants quieting down as the watched him. He didn't need directions his nose already told him the information he needed. It was a room toward the end of a long hallway that he sought. He stopped just inside the doorway, staring at the woman in front of him. It was Kagome, she looked the same as the day she had married Inuyasha. She wore a simple black kimono with small Sakura petals embroidered on the edges, her long ebony tresses were up in a simple bun at the nape of her neck. Her azure eyes rimmed with red locked onto his golden orbs, a small smile etching itself on her rosy lips.
"Sesshomaru," she said softly "you came."
"Thank you," she said as she walked over to him and gave him a short bow.
"Hn," he replied, as his eyes took in the small room.
There were portraits lining the walls, some of the original gang, others of small children, all hand drawn beautifully. Kagome noticed his eyes brief stop on them and smiled.
"Do you like them?" she asked, "It took me years to perfect my ability."
His eyes glanced at her, her eyes were on the portraits a hint of longing in them.
"You missed the funeral," she finally said, "But that's alright, I didn't expect you to come."
"This Sesshomaru would not stoop so low as to not pay his respects, we were brothers after all." Sesshomaru replied after a moment.
"Inuyasha would have loved to hear that," Kagome said with a laugh "even if he wouldn't have admitted it."
She let out a sigh before looking back at Sesshomaru, "Would you mind to take a stroll outside with me?"
When he made no attempt to protest Kagome made her way toward the back door. He followed slowly behind her, passing by more visitors in the house. They stepped out into a beautiful garden, small stones paths weaved in and out of the foliage. She slowly made her way down a path to her right, she walked slow, occasionally stopping to admire a flower or bush. She made no attempt to hold a conversation, but just enjoyed the peace that passed between them. She finally came to a small wooden bench, on it was carved small delicate flowers that intertwined and laced around each other. She rested a gentle hand on the backboard.
"Believe it or not," she started "This was a gift to me from Inuyasha. I suppose one of the villagers taught him how, but still, it's a beautiful gift."
She sat down tracing her fingers on the designs etched into the seat. Sesshomaru stood nearby, studying the Miko. The air about her was different, she was undeniably wiser, wisdom was said to come with age. But with age also came wrinkles, sagging skin, and graying hair, but she had none of these. If she had been mated with a Daiyokai like himself then this would be normal, but Inuyasha was a half-breed not to mention the current reason for Sesshomaru's visit.
"Sesshomaru," Kagome's voice had brought him out of his thoughts, "I really am glad you came today, I have actually been wanting to talk with you."
Kagome fiddled with the hem of her sleeve as if trying to find the right words to say. Finally, she looked up at Sesshomaru, her eyes sparkling with tears that threatened to escape.
"What now?" she asked
