When I was a little girl, my grandfather would always tell these ancient story of the all mightly and powerful white demon dog. Stories telling his wonderful and adventurous life. About how he conquered the Pather King and his battle along side Hyōga. Hearing the grand demon dog's name would always make my heart skip a beat. Giving me this abnormal chill each time I were to whisper his name, Inu no Taishō. Although my grandfather and I were born into a long line of monks and mikos. We never hated demons that weren't a threat to humans.
"Don't tell your parents I speak so highly of these tales. It's our little secret, okay?" He whispered as he tucked me into bed. I giggled at the thought of containing a secret just between us.
"Grandfather, does Inu no Taishō still live?" Even in the dim lighting, I could see a warm yet bitter smile form onto his lips.
"The great demon dog now sleeps peacefully in his grave." Sitting up in bed at a haste, I could sense the corner of my eyes get dewy.
"How horrible! He did much good things for his land! What will happen to his people now?!" Grandfather laughs and just places his palm onto my ebony hair.
"Shh, please calm yourself child. Don't worry yourself for there's a new daiyokai that cares for what he left behind. But that tale is for another night." He gently nudges my head back onto the pillow. Replacing the hand that laid on my forehead, with a soft kiss.
"Sweet dreams, Kagome."
Still holding those secret memorable moments with my grandfather close to my heart. I matured to become a well trained miko, that loves humans and secretly heal good-natured demons. With time my grandfather aged and was unable to keep up with the urgences that the day brought for a monk. Even though no one comes to him in need anymore, I still request his knowlege and wisdom about demons and the many medical advices.
On warm starry nights, we would sit outside and I would listen to grandfather tell me more fantastic stories about the demon world and his adventures as a monk.
Hopefully, someday I will also experience amazing adventures as have my grandfather did.
