A Budding Friendship

A/N: DDN Prompts:

"Don't walk behind me; I may not lead. Don't walk in front of me; I may not follow. Just walk beside me and be my friend." - Albert Camus

Having her here beside him made Sesshomaru realize something.  He hadn’t fallen in love with his wife, but he cared for her and the little girl who he had come to see as his ward.  Gentle fingers threaded through her hair and a warm hand pressed against her back to mold her to him.  He inhaled, detesting the coppery scent that invaded the room.

Extracting herself from his person, Kagome stared at their bloodied clothes.  Wiping her tears, she moved to get new ones for them both.

“We can sleep tonight.”  He murmured, knowing they would be excused from helping.

“What do you mean?”  She asked continuing her task.

Sesshomaru wasn’t sure what he meant by his words.  He knew that he liked what they had shared mere moments ago.  He wanted to be there with her and Rin-chan, knowing they were protected. He sought to keep the two females safe.

Kagome had found their garments now and walked towards him.  Grabbing the yukata he moved outside waiting for her to change.  Once done, she let him in to change as well.

Later, as she was sleeping with her hand reaching towards him, he realized she had become a friend.

The next morning, Kagome noticed a change.  It was in the way she and her husband interacted and talked with each other.  It made her feel closer to him she realized with a start as she was making dinner.  Hot soup drops splashed onto her hand, and she hissed as she pulled her hand up to inspect the redness.

Turning her attention back to the cooking, mindful of the extra help and eyes in the kitchen, she let loose a secretive smile.

She had finally found a friend in her husband.  She hoped that their relationship continued growing this way.
