It was the happiest moment of her life. All of her friends and family were in attendance to witness this joyous occasion. With a light blush adorning her cheeks and her hand held out with fingers spread wide; Kagome accepted his proposal.

The audience didn’t even need a moment to deliberate, as their joy was immediate. Cheers sounded in the lavish hall and champagne flutes clinked. Kagome looked around the room, soaking in everyone’s happiness and giving off a ray of her own. However, her happiness was almost shattered when she met the eyes that stared back into her from across the room. He was the only one still sitting. He was the only one not celebrating. He was the only one wanting to strip her and take her, right there in the reception hall, in front of all these people.

Kagome felt the effects of his gaze as soon as their eyes met. She remembered all of the nights that they spent together and all of the ways that they fucked. She remembered touches and giggles and screams and orgasms. Once in a while there was even talk between them. Never was it about them, mind you, but they would exchange bouts of nothings under the pretense that they remained nothing.

Yes, she remembered. Never again would she forget, but she would move on. No promises and an empty bed every morning did nothing for her self esteem. So she cut her gaze past him and onto the face of her fiancé and basked in the glory of their promised union.
