Prompt 1: Red

Kagome walked through the white, sterile halls of the laboratory.  After years of studying, she had managed to obtain a bachelor’s degree in biology and a job as a lab assistant in an experimental sciences branch of a pharmaceutical company.  The pay was good, and the work was interesting.  Everyone wore white so any contamination would be easily seen.  A flash of red in one of the lab windows off to the side caught her eye.  What she saw made her heart drop as she stared in horror.  It was Sesshoumaru, unconscious and bleeding, draped on the main dissection table.

Prompt 2: Fresh Strawberry

The superficial wounds that she could see on his face and neck reminded her of fresh strawberries.  How had he come to be here?  Why was he injured as badly as he was?  The last time she had seen him had been 500 years ago, through the well.  He still wore his traditional clothing, though his armor and weaponry had likely been relieved of him.  The thick pelt he wore on his shoulder dragged on the floor: matted, dirty.  She fought a wave of nausea as she realized what they would do to him.  She vowed to get him out.

Prompt 3: White Chocolate Raspberry

She had to hurry.  She could see the doctors readying their supplies, and an IV had already been inserted in his arm.  Blowing a mental raspberry at them, she forced herself to act normally as she headed for the electrical closet, passing the break room where she spied a half-eaten white chocolate cake on the table.  That’s going to be gone in thirty minutes, and so will Sesshoumaru, she thought as she slid into the closet and glanced around.  I’m so going to get fired, she thought as she pulled the main switch.  The entire building was doused in darkness.

Prompt 4: Mango key lime

Kagome dashed out of the closet and in the direction of the lab.  She collided with many confused colleagues on the way, and even smashed into a wall once in the dark.  The key was she knew she had two minutes before the backup generators switched on, so she had to be fast.  She found the door to the lab and burst in, wondering if the smell of limes and mangos was someone’s sickly sweet idea of perfume before she crashed into both people and carts.  She felt the taiyoukai’s pelt on the floor and followed it to its owner.

Prompt 5: Banana Cream

As a lab assistant, she knew equipment better than the doctors.  With ease, she unlatched the locks on the wheels of the dissection table Sesshoumaru was strapped to and shoved him out the door, the floor slick with spilt liquids as though she walked on banana peels and whipped cream.  She skidded around corners, smashing into people as she raced for the employee parking lot.  She burst out into the garage, panting as she wheeled him to her car.  With shaking fingers she unstrapped him and maneuvered him into her car.  She kicked the table away hastily before driving off.

Prompt 6: Vanilla Bean

“I’msodeadI’msodeadI’msodead…” Kagome chanted as she drove, white-knuckled, to her apartment.  She prayed to the deities that she hadn’t been caught on the security tapes.  At any rate, she was sure she had lost her job for good.  She parked her car in her assigned spot before slinging Sesshoumaru’s prone body over her back and staggering home.  She managed to open the door without dropping him, and the smell of vanilla bean greeted her nose.  Her legs trembled under his weight, and only when she rolled him onto her bed did she sigh in relief.  Breathing deeply, she went to work.

Prompt 7: Wild Blueberry

She began by undressing the taiyoukai, assessing his wounds.  Bruises blue as blueberries and lacerations red as strawberries marred his pale skin, and she began by disinfecting and taping his injuries.  She monitored him carefully, knowing just how wild and feral he could be if he woke disoriented and in pain.  She worked as quickly as she could, working her way downwards.  When she reached his undergarments, she blushed but staunchly continued her treatment.  She froze when a rumble rolled through the room.  She instantly dropped the alcohol-soaked cotton pads and stepped away from the suddenly alert and angry taiyoukai.

Prompt 8: Caramel Pecan Turtle

He growled, crimson eyes rolling until they latched onto her.  There was no recognition.  “Oh, boy,” she grumbled, “we’re off like a herd of turtles…”  She clenched a fist hard enough to possibly crack a pecan in—as it was, she drew blood as she straightened her spine and forcefully suppressed her fear.  Her caramel eyes locked onto his as Sesshoumaru flipped over, shoulders hunched as though his hackles were raised while a wind began to whip around him.  “Oh, no,” she snarled, stomping to him, “you are not transforming in my home!”  Without a second thought, she slapped him.

Prompt 9: Peppermint Bark

The slap not only shocked her, but him as well.  He let out a surprised, bark-like yip and shook his head.  When she caught sight of his eyes, they were his normal, lucid amber.  “Sesshoumaru?” she ventured.  He watched her with—was that shame in his eyes?  “What happened?”  She slowly reached for a bottle of peppermint oil to soothe aches, tipping a small amount into her fingers and cautiously approaching him.  She reached out and massaged a now-healed forearm.

“They found me in my home in the forest.  I fought, they brought me down,” he said at last, brokenly.

Prompt 10: The Original

She gazed up at him, and he looked down at her.  But there was no arrogance, no confidence in his eyes.  “Sess—”

“Don’t call me that!” he hissed, turning his head sharply away.  “I don’t deserve the name!”

Sympathy filled her eyes.  “Of course you do.  You’re still the original Sesshoumaru who tried to kill me centuries ago,” she teased.

“He’s defeated, gone, brought down by humans,” he said bitterly.

She stood gently hugged his head to her chest.  “Never.  He’s still there, buried.  And I’ll help uncover him.”  She smiled down at him, and he tentatively returned it.
