A Homemade Lunch and an Answer

Prompt: concentrate

Kagome found herself cooking a nice warm lunch of pasta.  It was halfway through, as she drained the noodles that she realized that she hadn’t concentrated and had made enough for two not one.  Checking the pesto sauce bubbling away on the stove she decided it was time to turn it off and add the pasta to it.

But she didn’t.  Instead, she made her way to the living room and peeked out the window.  Sesshomaru’s car was still in his driveway which meant he was home.  Her eyes narrowed- since when had he become Sesshomaru in her thoughts and not Taisho?

Looking back at the kitchen she debated about what to do with the extra meal.  She could give it to Sesshomaru or she could save it for dinner.  After a quick glance one again towards the driveway, she knew that she had her answer.  He had fed her last week and twice this week- it was her turn to do it now.

So, twenty minutes later she rang Sesshomaru’s doorbell and waited with baited breath for him to open it.

When he did open it, he was surprised at the visitor and even more surprised at the food she carried with her.

“This is for you.”  Kagome began hesitant and not sure if her rehearsed speech sounded right.  “I… this is my way of treating you to lunch and…my way of answering you.”  Sesshomaru stood stiffly preparing himself for an answer that he was sure was one of rejection. He had treated her horribly and while she had brought him lunch, he wasn't sure if it was just a conciliatory gift or a meal that meant something else.

“I...I want to always be your neighbor and the girl you torment and tease.”  Her voice gained confidence and she continued.  “And I always want to be the one to prank you in return.  I just don’t know if that’s enough.”

Sesshomaru’s posture softened and he smiled at her gently as a bit of his unease lifted.  “Silly woman," he began his tone softening and his eyes warming, "of course that’s enough.”  And with a steady hand, he then guided her- food and all- inside his house for lunch.

Becasue she was the woman he liked and she had made him lunch.  He wouldn't give up this opportunity to eat her homemade meal and spend some time in her presence.
