He's Serious

A/N: Written for Sunset Miko's Once a Week Challenge.

“I don’t know what this means.”  Kagome stated her hands fumbling for her cell phone.  She dialed Rin’s number and when said girl picked up, immediately began the scolding. 

“Rin, do you have any idea what that information you gave your brother did?  He bought me the earrings!  The earrings which he had to have bought with your father’s money.  And you know how much he hates doing that!” 

Rin was stunned on the other end.  Sesshomaru hardly told anyone about the clash between him and their father.  Confused, she asked Kagome how she knew and then asked for a clearer explanation of what was happening. 

“He told me once.”  Kagome answered remembering the day she had yelled that his pranks were childish and his father must be disappointed in him if he saw him now.  She hadn’t expected Sesshomaru’s confirmation of her words. 

“Kagome?”  Rin prompted refocusing Kagome’s attention on the phone call. 

“He told me and that’s that.” Kagome repeated.  “But that’s not the case Rin.  He…he bought me the Swarovski earrings we were looking at the other day.”  Voice softening, she continued.  “Why would he do that?” 

“He bought them for you?”  Rin yelled.  “I…holy shit he’s serious.   I thought something was odd when he asked me about things you liked and I mentioned we’d gone shopping earlier.” 

“He’s serious?”  Kagome repeated stunned by what she heard.  “But… “ 

It was at this point that Sara reached over and took the phone from Kagome.  The woman protested but before she could say anything Sara spoke. 

“Look, I’m not sure who this is but it’s kind of obvious Kagome’s not in the right state of mind to work right now.  Since it’s a slow day, I’ll have you come pick her up and take her home.”  

Hanging up the phone, she gave it back to Kagome who decided to follow her instructions.
