The Missed Goal

A/N: Written for Sunset Miko's Once a Week Challenge, EPL- refers to English Premier League which I have no affiliation with.  I also have no affiliation to the FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil, the Japanese national team, the Cameroon national team, or the events that took place last night.  I just enjoyed watching it :)

Prompt:  Fifteen

“So,” Rin began as she relaxed with her brother after the dishes were done, “can I ask you something?”  Sesshomaru turned his attention from the television where an EPL game was being played.  He shrugged, giving Rin leave to continue and ask her question if she wished to do so.

“What caused you to begin the war with Kagome?”

Sesshomaru fidgeted and Rin narrowed her eyes.  Her brother had often done that when he wanted to hide something from her.  She reached over and grabbed the remote from his hands before he could stop her.  Sesshomaru loved football (soccer) and he would do anything to get that remote back and try to finish watching the game.

“Rin…”  He pleaded his eyes falling to the remote as she had predicted.

“Nuh uh.  You aren’t getting this back till you tell me what had you so angry.”  Sesshomaru looked at the television and then back at his sister with a sigh.

Kagome had moved to the neighborhood at the end of May.  The day the war started, he had been excited.  As a fan of football, he had spent the majority of the day enjoying the games being played in the World Cup and had finally settled in to see the game where Japan played the Ivory Coast.  Being a second generation Japanese-American, he had been so excited to see the players and was eager to end the day on a high note.

At the fifteenth minute, just as a Japanese player was taking a corner kick, he heard a boom outside.  In the time it took to turn his head, the power went out.  He found out through a text from a friend moments later, that Japan had just scored a goal.

And the next day he found the source of the power outage: Kagome Higurashi, his new neighbor who was playing a prank on her visiting cousin.
