Prompt: Bite

Japan, 1945 (August)
“The Emperor has ordered the surrender to the Allies.”
Looking up to the grave announcement of his sire, Sesshomaru took a moment to absorb the news, before he nodded his acceptance. At his side, he felt and heard the soft sigh of relief of his brothers mate, and Inuyasha’s brash, “It’s about time!” words, before grunting in pain from the elbow in his stomach from his mate.
Mildly amused at the scolding glance the female gave to her mate, Sesshomaru listened as she turned back to question their father. “Are we the first to know, Touga-sama?”
Shaking his head, the elder took a seat, flexing his leg as he did so to rid the mild pain that coursed through it. A wound delivered from the battlefield. “His Majesty will be delivering a…capitulation announcement to the nation,” he replied. “Two days hence.”
Inuyasha grunted. With a glance to Sesshomaru, he stood. “We should check on the others.”
Nodding in agreement, the inuyoukai moved from his position against the wall of the bunker they occupied to the entrance. It had seemed dishonourable to hide away like a coward, but when the bombs from the Americans had dropped upon Hiroshima and later Nagasaki, he privately admitted to be somewhat thankful to have avoided the worst of the devastation and after affects from the bombs.
He looked away when Inuyasha gave his mate a lingering kiss, giving them some privacy, and because he did not want to witness the affection, loyalty and love that they gave to one another.
Emerging first, he took a tentative sniff and inwardly grimaced. The air held millions of scents, it was difficult to filter. Glancing up at the black sky, he headed forwards, hearing Inuyasha’s plodding behind warily. Night was the best to move, especially without the worry of humans seeing them in their true features.
Quickly, they took to the rooftops, only to come to a halt as they scented the strong odour of blood.
Eyes narrowing, Sesshomaru looked down and stared in disbelief. Inuyasha followed his gaze and his jaw dropped. “Is that…he’s…what the fuck?! HEY!” He shouted before leaping down.
The scene, which showed a dark figure crouched over a body of a female, head at her throat, and of all things, biting at her throat, changed as the figure rose and turned in a sharp motion, revealing a male covered in blood, predominantly around his mouth and on his hands.
What threw the brothers off was the blood red eyes, and the glint of madness within them as he grinned toothily at them, showing off sharp teeth covered in blood.
“What the fuck?” Inuyasha whispered. “Sess…that’s not human.”
“Nor youkai.” Sesshomaru agreed, as they both leapt back from the swipe of clawed fingertips and a snap of teeth. Blocking another crazed attack, Inuyasha pushed him off, barely escaping a bite towards his throat, and Sesshomaru delivered a snap of his dokksou whip, easily severing the head from the body.
To their surprise, as the body crumpled, it mummified.
“Shit,” Inuyasha muttered, leaning forwards to study it without moving any closer. “I’ve never seen that happen before.”
Eying the remains of it, and the dead female, Sesshomaru tried to pick up scents to help identify the strange creature. “There is no real scent,” he finally growled in annoyance.
“We need to tell Pops,” Inuyasha looked around warily. “Think there’s more?”
“No.” Sesshomaru said confidently, even though he also swept his gaze through the shadows.
“Well, now. That is where you are wrong, my friend.”
Stiffening at the strange voice coming from behind, both spun to find a male dressed in all black and wearing a cloth to cover his face, only to show his crimson eyes.
“Who are you?” Inuyasha demanded, flexing his fingers.
“No one that you need concern yourself about,” the male remarked politely. “I do thank you for killing that creature. You made my task much simpler.”
“The hell?” Inuyasha growled. “You know what that thing is?”
“But of course.” They could all but hear the smirk in his tone. “If you’ll forgive me, I must be going.”
Snarling as he leapt back into the shadows, Sesshomaru turned to Inuyasha, delivering, “Get Father, I will track.” before he was gone.
“Arggh.” Inuyasha grumbled with irritation before he took off to get his sire. As he sped off, a shadow detached from a wall and moved forwards with a fluid grace, coming to the mummified form. Drawing the black cloth from her face, Kagome glanced around quickly.
Laughter spilled through the air, before another landed next to her. “The kit has his hands full.” Naraku murmured as he carefully picked up the dead woman, holding her bridal style. “It will be hard for him to shake that one.”
“I have faith he will be able to lose his tracker.”
Collecting the mummified remains, Kagome placed them into a body bag with practiced ease. Naraku watched on, frowning marginally. “Too bad there is no active volcano,” he remarked. “It would be much easier to dispose of the remains.”
She hummed, before lifting the bag to follow him, leaving the area quickly. They knew it would only be a matter of moments before the hanyou would be back with others, and they could not afford to be caught.
“I have not seen other youkai since taking in the kit,” Naraku murmured as they moved through the shadows. “Dare we…?”
Blue eyes glanced back once, before turning forwards, satisfied they were not followed. “Not yet.” She murmured. “Eventually.”
“As you wish, little bird.”
