Chapter Three.

Prompt: Dark Lord

Japan, 1707

“Ah, there you are.”

At the familiar voice, both mocking and holding brotherly fondness and understanding, blue eyes cast a look over a slim shoulder, offering a small smile.  “Naraku.”  She murmured.

“Little bird,” he returned, coming up next to her upon the inner balcony that looked out to the fiery cauldron lighting up the night sky.    His crimson gaze took in the display without concern.

“Has the council decided?”  She asked after a moment.

Humming, he nodded as he leaned forwards gracefully next to her.   “The verdict was as you predicted.  Death by fire is to be their fate.”

“When?”  She inquired softly.

“Next night.”  He answered smoothly.  He arched a brow, casting an appraising look to her.  “You will join?”

Slowly, she nodded, her gaze not leaving the sight of destructive fire in the distance.   Silently he also contemplated the volcano, taking in the spew of molten lava and billowing ash.   The humans of Edo were all up in arms and many leaving for safety.  Personally he thought them fools, but they did not know what he did either.

With a sigh, he straightened, smoothing out his haori.

“Returning so soon?”

Lips twisting, he nodded.  “Duty calls,” he mocked.  “Elder Kou wishes an account of the Isshin hunt.”

Blinking, her lips curved downwards as her brows drew together gently.  “That was over 300 years ago.”

“Aa.”  He agreed.  “But those simple minded fools cannot grasp why he needed to be eliminated immediately instead of holding trial.”

Pursing her lips, she turned back to her view watching.  “They also did not follow his trail of kills.”

“More is the pity.”  Naraku grunted.  “They could use an eye opener.”

Amusement touched her eyes as she smiled lightly.  “We both know they would not be unable to keep up.”

“Soft pampered fools,” he hissed into the night.  “The Clan will not survive under their greedy ways.”

Regarding him, she took in his dark hair, loose and falling in long waves around his shoulders and down his back.  Clothed in black hakama’s and a haori edged with purple, he made a menacing picture.  Truly looking like the dark lord he was.

One day, she knew, he would grow tired as she had of the discord of their Clan, the bickering of the council and do away with them.  She only prayed that it happened soon, before the humans took note of their on goings.

“Kagome.”

Brought from her thoughts, she gave a questioning look.

Naraku met her gaze easily.  “Feed tonight, and get some rest.  You need it.”

For a moment, she said nothing, then looked away.  “I will.”  She promised.
