Day One

She blearily woke up, staring at the bright neon digits of her alarm clock. It was seven o’clock and the sun was shining brightly against her eyeballs, blinding her for a second before her mind caught up and dragged the blanket over her face.

Kagome closed her eyes and snuggled into her bedding, forcing herself to fall back to sleep, that it was far too early to do anything. But the allure of sleep escaped her and she laid grumpily on her plush bed, her hand brushing none too gentle against her hair as it tickled irritatingly her face. She groaned when her fingers became tangled within the knotted strands.

Letting out a long sigh, she turned on her back, still underneath her blankets as she lazed, her mind not yet to its working function.

What do I need to do today?

Her thumb rubbed against her finger, relieving an itch, and that was when she came into a halt. Lifting her hand up in confusion and bringing it close to her face, sat a large, glittering diamond ring.

An engagement ring… A dreamily look came on her face, twirling her hand slowly from side to side, looking at the small significant object that screamed love, devotion and a long happy life. Eight months since I became engaged, Kagome thought to herself. Time sure flies, it must be love.

She then paused.

Hold on a second… Kagome scrunched her eyebrows together, a look of intense concentration coming over her eyes. It’s been eight months… this is April right sooo… She absentmindedly scratched an annoying itch on her cheek, still thinking about that magic number and month.

I’m suppose to do something… what was it?

Kagome then scratched her hair which she dubbed as a bird’s nest, trying really hard to remember what she had to do. It was gnawing at her, it was peeking through the forefront of her mind, lingering in a shadowy obscurity.

Damnit, why can’t I remember?

A noisy beep made her flinch and she lazily grabbed her phone off her end table, unplugging it from the charger before she broke it like the last one.

One new message - From Sango

“Girl, when are you going to do your wedding plans?! I thought y’all promised to have the wedding in August?”

Wedding plans? Kagome mused, pursing her lips in another bout of concentration.

“What are you talking about?”

Not even a minute passed before her cell phone beeped again, the loud noise causing her to have a headache. Maybe she should change the tune, it was rather aggravating.

“I know you’re not a morning person, but have you done anything to plan for your wedding?”

“But it's April, we still have plenty of time and we're having our wedding in August…”

Sango must have too much time on her hand because the next message was received in less than thirty seconds. Gods, her hands were feeling particular lethargic this annoyingly bright morning.

“Girl, August is just around the corner!”

Kagome stared at her phone blandly, trying to see if this was some sort of prank and Sango wanted her to feel unnecessarily worried. But the text message accomplished what no other person could have done before.

It woke her up immediately.

“Stop joking around, that’s not funny.” She pressed some symbols, making a mad face towards her best friend via text.

“Don’t tell me you haven’t done anything?”

Why the hell Sesshomaru didn’t say anything about this? Why didn’t he remind her? Now she felt unfit to be a perfect bride all because she was stuck in her lovey-dovey stage!

She quickly jumped out of bed, unfortunately tripping on the sagging blanket and fell with an undignified squawk on the floor.

“Sango come over now!”

“So lemme get this straight, I only have thirty days until August… I thought it was April!” Kagome gaped at her friend, her blue eyes hazy and filled with bewilderment. She felt a bit irritated when reality caught up with her, it only seemed as if it only happened yesterday. Then, she blinked and now had a huge ass headache about the dilemma. “Damn, I’m off by several months!” She had to curse herself, she never pays attention to the calender.

Sango sighed, taking a needed sip from the hot coffee she had grasped her hands greedily around of.  “Kagome, if you’re unprepared, you could always extend it. It would seem like a logical choice.”

Kagome jutted her bottom lip out, pouting. “No, I promised Sesshomaru in August we will get married. Now look, there's only thirty days left!” Gods, she was feeling horrible as it is. But the thought of Sesshomaru not informing her was nagging at her brain. Now she felt undoubtedly upset, well more like pissed off since she has been in a long time.

“But to do everything in thirty days? It’s impossible.” Sango tried to delude her friend from undertaking a rather extensive responsibility.

“No, there’s a way! And besides, I‘m not one to go back from my promises no matter how late it seems!” Kagome vehemently said, placing her hot beverage next to the pile of stacked bridal magazine she dug up around her cramped apartment. “I wanted a summer wedding, an August one, it needs to be done pronto!”

“I feel like you’re doing the most.” Sango said, sighing loudly. There was no way she could convince her best friend, not when she set her mind onto something as insane as this. Though she did find it cute and adorable, she was worried that Kagome would burn out with this type of stress.

“I’m not! Just trust me, I’ll have everything ready when that time comes, have faith in me girl! I got this!” Kagome exclaimed before grabbing a magazine from the pile. “Now help me look through these, I need an idea for the wedding.”

They spent a couple minutes shifting through old magazines, agreeing and disagreeing to several ideas and choices.

“What do you want to have, a western wedding or a Shinto one?”

“Well, mama and grandpa would be really happy if it was a Shinto wedding,” Kagome mused out loud, rubbing her finger against her chin. “Also it would be cheaper to have it at the shrine.”

Sango nodded, still thumbing through the shiny, crinkled pages of Bridal’s Weekly. Inwardly, she was amazed how many magazine about weddings and brides Kagome had stored inside her apartment. Who knew she would be obsessed with it.

“And since Sesshomaru is a traditionalist, I’m pretty sure he would love it.” Sango gave her input, leading Kagome down the desired path, knowing the younger woman would stay all day contemplating between the two choices when she clearly wanted the approval and pride of her family. Typically, it would be a traditional wedding.

“You’re right, but he’s gonna be upset that I’m planning to have the wedding a month from now.”

“That’s more than enough reason for us to postpone it.” Sesshomaru’s temper was infamous, Sango wondered how Kagome could still withstand his icy personality. Maybe opposites do attract each other, because she never thought sweet, innocent Kagome would ever get along with an icicle. The only reason Sango haven’t said anything negative from the beginning was because she could genuinely see that Kagome liked him and the fact he seemed a respectful man, quite the opposite from his younger brother.

“I’m just worried about you Kagome, I’m just letting you know about having another option available.” She tried to explain herself, she didn’t want Kagome to think she was against the idea of having a wedding. But she was totally against having it by the end of thirty days, there was simply not enough time.

Kagome gave the woman a pointed glare, her lips pulled down in a small frown. “I’m not postponing it Sango, I’ve already made my mind up.” When Sango gave her a shrug, she let her annoyance fade away, there wasn’t a point. There were more important matters to take care of, mainly planning her wedding. “Anyways, since we accomplished the first task, let’s finish picking out more ideas, I want everything to be prefect!”

With a huff, she knocked some of the magazines down while looking for the one with many wedding kimonos, she needed something calming to her mind.

The girls spent the rest of the day, taking various breaks within, to finish the nearly improbable task Kagome has tasked for them. Sango hoped the younger woman doesn’t turn into someone crazy. She shudder at that thought.

“I wonder how I should inform Sesshomaru of the circumstances…” Kagome murmured to herself, interrupting Sango‘s inner horror show.

She gulped, rubbing her eyes a bit as she suddenly felt lethargic. It didn‘t help as she was forced to come over thirty minutes after she sent Kagome a text about a minuscule thought which crossed her mind and now helping Kagome deal with her crisis. “How about now, people don’t like having information told to them at the last minute and you know how he is, really impatient.”

“He would be worse than you, trying to persuade me into stop the wedding, well he gotta be out of his mind if he thinks he can stop me.”

Sango nibbled on her bottom lip when Kagome said those words and returned to her activities. Kagome could be frightening when given the chance. Hopefully, Sesshomaru didn’t protest too much about Kagome’s untimely plan, she seemed pretty determined. And no one could stand a chance against the young woman without being figuratively ran-over.

They didn’t need a bridezilla on their hands. Too bad for Sango, with the clock ticking by and as Kagome forcefully turned the pages with sheer exuberance, the worse-case scenario has begun.

Who would have thought several days could turn a sweet-tempered, naïve woman into such a monster.
