Asking for Advice

A/N: Prompt: Cards

“Finally!  All the invitations have been sent out!”  Sesshomaru raised a brow at his personal assistant wondering what she was talking about.  It was Monday and the sweaters he had bought that weekend had been given over to his assistant who was now taking them to her neighbor for the monogramming.

“I mean they’ve all been invited but there were a few who only got calls, I sent the last of the actual cards out this morning so that should take care of things.”

“Ah of course.”  He turned his eyes back to the laptop in front of him but his brain didn’t focus on work.  Sighing, he looked up at Kagura who was still watching him curiously.  Apparently, his rather odd behavior this morning had caught her attention.  “Kagura,”  he began, “I would like your honest opinion on something.”

“Go ahead, I’m listening.”  She tapped a foot impatiently and he quickly answered her.

“I want to adopt Matsuda Rin.  She- she reminds me of Yumi and Daisuke but she also…I can’t let her stay with Oreki-san.  I can’t let any of those kids stay with that woman but Rin is special.”  The tapping stopped and his assistant sighed as she understood what he was saying.

“I can’t promise anything.  I’ll talk to someone and see if they can do something about Oreki-san.  Hasegawa-san from the child protective services still feels she owes you a favor.  I’ll talk to her about both of these things.”

His eyes softened then and she noticed it.  It was the little things like this that made her realize she was working for a man who did care.  Sometimes though, she wished he would show it a little more.

“Thank you Kagura.”  She waved a hand and brushed his words off.

“Don’t mention it.  By the way, did you talk to Higurashi yet?”  He shook his head negatively choosing not to mention Saturday’s meeting.  That was an embarrassing experience he would live to hide.  And really, it could have all been avoided had Kagura not mentioned those dratted words to him on Friday.

“I do not like her that way Kagura.”  He began enunciating each word clearly.  “And even if I ever do, I’d like to remind you that I’ll do things on my own terms.”

“All right, all right.  I’ll get going now.”  She turned to leave and kept speaking as she neared the door.  “And if Hasegawa-san agrees to your requests I’ll let you know.”

     “Thank you Kagura.”

“Don’t mention it.”  She opened the door and got back to work.  She had a lot to do today and the sooner she started the sooner that work would disappear.
