A Last Minute Decoration

  A/N: Prompt: Poinsettias, Toys

Poinsettias were a last minute decoration that Kagome had bought on a whim that weekend with some leftover money from the budget.  She was shopping for some toys that Sesshomaru had asked her help in purchasing and had stumbled on a florist shop that had them sitting out by the doors.  Almost immediately, she had gone into the store and asked about them.  The plants, she was told, were not selling this year, and she could have them for half the price.

“Two then!”  Kagome enthused pulling out her wallet and asking for a receipt.  The store manager looked at her oddly.  “I’m planning a party and I have to reimburse my costs.”

“I see.”  The manager placed two plants (of her choosing) and then billed her before giving her the receipt.  Kagome thanked him and left, lugging the large bags of toys and the heavier bag of poinsettias with her.

When she came to work that following Monday, the day before the event, Sango was there and opened her mouth in shock at the plants.

“Oh hush, help me move these- one on either side of the door.  After that, we’ll take a morning coffee break and double-check decorations until the boys arrive.”

The boys arrived before Kagome and Sango could even finish their coffees and they spent the day going over each and every child’s initials, memorizing them, and making sure that each sweater was matched with the right student.  It was late in the afternoon, after the gift list was memorized again and decorations were checked for one final time that Kagome called together all her subordinates.

“Guys,”  she began, “we’re going to make this event go off tomorrow.  It’s going to be wonderful and we’re going to have a lovely bunch of students of all ages leave tomorrow with smiles on their faces.  Let’s do this!”
