Follow Tradition

A/N: Prompt: Miseltoe

Kagome bundled back up into her coat and scarf as she made to leave Sesshomaru’s apartment three hours later.  It was actually fun wrapping presents with the male.  She had taught him how to tie the perfect bow and he had taught her how to crease those edges perfectly when wrapping a present.  His method was much faster than her’s.  Now, they had finished and were going to load the bags into the trunk of her car so that she could take them to the banquet hall come Monday.

“Are you sure that’s not too much to carry?”  She asked taking note of the bags in his hands.  He rolled his eyes and she huffed before she grabbed two bags of her own to take down.  They were going to have to make at least three trips but she would do so.

They made their way down in the elevator and she greeted the doorman from earlier.  He smirked as they walked out and stopped them before they could leave the elevator.  Confused, they both looked at the doorman who was now practically beaming.

“Tradition, tradition.”  He stated pointing at the elevator ceiling.  They looked up and there, to Kagome and Sesshomaru’s horror was a sprig of miseltoe.  It was above Kagome’s head and not Sesshomaru’s and seeing that tiny gap, Sesshomaru tried to weasel his way out of the predicament.

“She’s the only one under it.”  He stated edging towards the door of the elevator.  Kagome however, in a momentary fit of panic, pressed the door close button stopping his attempts.  He looked at her curiously and she turned large eyes to him in fear.

“Higurashi?”  He asked forgoing the honorific because he was angry at her.  Reaching towards her, he made to push the button when her hand on his arm stopped him.

“I have never…how do I word this… I’ve never not followed tradition.”  Her other hand dropped bags and reached out to jab the door close button once more.  “Just peck me on the cheek, or let me peck you on the cheek and we’ll just go away.”  Her hand on his arm suddenly faltered.

“Actually- forget what I just said, let’s go.”  She never saw it coming- one moment she was reaching out with her hand and the next she felt the elevator lurch as it rode up.  Her eyes found his only to find them locked with hers.

“Tradition you say?”  He asked his voice a little lower.  “Then by all means lets.”

He had no idea what possessed him to do it, or why he did so but he did know that at the end of the day, throwing that bit of caution to the wind felt good.  He didn’t feel anything but attraction to Higurashi yet but he decided he might as well go with that feeling.  And as the woman he was kissing responded, he decided that it was a good plan.
