Turn Off the Lights

“Damn it,” He glared at the television when all of the lights went out.

Kagome muffled voice came from upstairs. “Sesshomaru! I can’t see!”

“Stay where you are.” Sesshomaru got up from the comfort of his seat, heading towards the box hidden within the coat closet. Opening it, after pushing the heavy jackets out of the way, he flicked the main switch and yet not single light came on. He was irritated, he was missing the game.

“I’ve found some candles we could use!” She yelled from the top of the stairs. “Thank Kami I bought them the other day.”

A whiff of gingerbread fluttered down, making his stomach grumbled.

“Be careful, I don’t want you falling down the stairs, you’re clumsy enough as it is.” Sesshomaru said, hearing the telltale signs of Kagome stepping down the stairs.

In her hands were two candles, both gingerbread-scented and from the dimmed lighting they both gave off, they were Christmas-themed. Her hands were lightly trembling.

“I didn’t want to use these candles until Christmas Eve, but I guess we have no choice.”

“I’m surprised you didn’t run down the stairs.” He reached out with his own hands to steady hers, knowing she would spill it and probably cause a fire inside their home just because she couldn’t control herself.

Kagome sighed, the light darkening the shadows on her face. “I can’t do that anymore, I would have broken my leg or something.”

“That hasn’t stopped you before.”

“That doesn’t matter,” She murmured. “I’m not running down the stairs, no matter how scare of the dark I am… now hold me, I’m scared.”
