Carols All Around
“’Tis the season to be jolly, fa la la la la la la la la.”
Sesshomaru merely turned up the volume of the television, trying to tune out the people standing outside singing carols. Hopefully Kagome didn’t hear it as she was currently in their bedroom. Knowing the woman, she would definitely try to join them, even in this cold weather.
“Do I hear carolers?” Came the excited voice of his wife. He mentally groaned.
“No it is just the television.” He pressed the volume button even more. The full surround sound of a lion’s roar filled the space, nearly causing him to cringe, but he endure it, for his own sake.
Kagome nearly stomped down the stairs, her body trembling with enthusiasm. “Put the T.V on mute.”
He placed the remote out of sight. “Why?”
“Just do it.” She was bouncing in her spot, her blue eyes twinkling with excitement.
He reluctantly pressed the button, the full blast of the carolers outside emitted from the door as they continued their merry tune, unfazed by the sudden noise that was occurring inside the house. Kagome headed towards the door, moving to open it.
“Wait Kagome.” She paused, looking at the male sitting on the couch. “Don’t open that door.”
She scoffed, opening the very door that kept the noise partially from coming to his ear. The group outside stood proudly before her, smiles on their faces as they sung Christmas carols.
“…On the forth day of Christmas, my true love sent to me; four calling birds…”
“Kikyo, Inuyasha?” Sesshomaru stood up after his wife said those two names, heading towards the bedroom. Kagome looked back, just in time to see his form sneak off upstairs. “Sesshomaru, don’t try to hide! Come see your brother!”
Sesshomaru had to go back down the stairs, not because Kagome said so, but she said he was hiding which was an absolute lie. He wasn’t hiding, he was merely retreating to a place where annoying carolers didn’t exist.
Inuyasha came into view, looking very grumpy with his Santa hat and thick, red sweater. His wife looked content singing with the crowd, also wearing Christmas-y clothing.
“We should join them.” Kagome went ahead and grabbed her coat, and also grabbing his own. There was no point in arguing with her, because in the end, she already won. With an annoyed huff, he slowly put on his coat on, and reluctantly placed a pair of fuzzy antler horns that his wife passed to him on his head. He had a feeling he looked extremely ridiculous. Kagome quickly locked the door and followed the carolers who warmly welcomed them to the group.
Sesshomaru migrated to back and unfortunately, it placed him next to his brother.
Inuyasha grumbled, not liking the circumstances. “Can’t you go somewhere else?”
“No.”
“First, I have to deal with this crap, in the cold and now I gotta deal with you.” Inuyasha scoffed, rubbing his hands together. “Someone must hate me.”
“Who doesn’t hate you.” Sesshomaru blandly said. He was getting irritated already and not even five minutes passed.
“Oi, shut up bastard, it’s already hell with you being here.”
“The sentiments are mutual.”
“Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus, right down Santa Claus lane--”
“Kami, I want to go home.” Inuyasha mumbled, everybody else singing with the exception of the two brothers. They were at the next house down the street. “This is pure torture.”
Sesshomaru wished everybody could shut their mouths; his nose and ears were cold, his eyes were getting watery from the blasted, chilly wind, and he was stuck in the back with his brother, who hasn’t stopped complaining.
“Hey, if I leave, do you think Kikyo would notice?”
“That is stupid idea… go ahead.” Sesshomaru gave a smirk, imagining the outcome of the plan to be highly amusing.
Inuyasha merely glared, not going through with it. “You probably don’t even have the guts to leave.”
He scoffed, “Unlike you, I care about the feelings of my wife. If she enjoys this, I must endure it.”
“Sounds like you’re whip to me.” Inuyasha said with a shaky snicker, his teeth clattering when a strong breeze passed the group.
“Says the idiot right beside me.” Inuyasha made a face, not saying anything. Maybe because the cold took the energy to talk or he really had nothing to say.
Sesshomaru shook his head, the answer he gave to Inuyasha was stretching his patience. Yes, he cared about Kagome's feelings, but to endure this was really asking for it. But he must, if he didn’t want to sleep on the couch, the leather gets really cold at night.
