Star Light, Star Bright

“What do you think you are doing?” Sesshomaru nearly raised his voice in concern as he saw Kagome climbing a step ladder, reaching for the flickering star on top of the Christmas tree.

“The light in this is going out, I’m putting up the new one.”

“And you couldn’t have called for my assistance for this?”

Kagome waved his concern away. “It’s not like I can’t do this, I’m not invalid, I don’t need you being mama hen.”

Sesshomaru grumbled, first she wanted to go outside and play in the snow, and now she thought she was being safe and brave by replacing the star. She was a klutz, and sooner or later, her little acts of independence was going to be hindered once her stomach gets bigger. He rather have her learn that lesson right away of taking it easy and letting him take care of things.

“Get down, I’ll put it up.”

She shook her head. “I want it up in a certain way, you’ll just make it look sloppy.”

“It’s just a piece of decoration, who cares?” He blandly said, not really following how putting the star at the tip could be considered sloppy. Only an inept fool would do something silly and place it somewhere else. “I got this, now get down.”

Kagome huffed before slowly stepping down, Sesshomaru’s hands on her hips to guide her safely. She handed him the new star.

“I just need to clip it.”

“Yes, it’s really simple.” She grumbled.

Sesshomaru stepped up, clipping the decoration firmly on the pointed tip, only to have it bend to one side.

“Sesshomaru! It’s crooked!”

“It’s too heavy.” He tried to defend himself, he clipped it on and that was that. He didn’t say he was going to fix it if it became lopsided. “Unless, you want it on the side or the tree could be devoid of a star.”

She heatedly glared.

“And don’t think about climbing up the ladder again just to fix it, it’s staying how it is.”
