Ain't Nothing Like Family

One more day before Christmas, Kagome merrily thought to herself, finishing the final touches of the harm she had cooking in her oven for the past couple hours. The smell was tantalizing, stimulating her senses and alluring her to take a bite of the juicy meat. But she restrained herself. No matter how much she wanted to eat that delicious-smelling ham, she couldn’t be greedy on this day.

Everything was set and everybody was in the other room waiting for dinner to be served. Her mother came in, wearing the sweater with dozens of Santa Claus plastered evenly amongst the fabric that she gave her last year.

“It seems to me Sesshomaru hasn’t been enjoying the holiday.”

Kagome sighed, “I know, it’s probably my moods that’s making him grouchy. Probably doesn’t help that we were spending more time with Inuyasha and his family.”

“I thought they got along.” Her mother’s brows furrowed in confusion, her hands busy organizing the biscuits. “They haven’t fought once since we got here.”

“No mama, they’re like cat and dog.” She grumbled, stirring the mash potatoes. “Sesshomaru doesn’t want to make a scene.”

Her mother gave a slight chuckle. “He’ll get along with Inuyasha sooner or later.”

“Hopefully.” Kagome murmured. The timer went off, and Kagome quickly checked the ham in the oven, her mouth salivating when the aroma whiffed past her nose. “Everything is ready, let’s place everything on the table.”

Soon everybody was eating, the joyous laughter and chatter filling every space. Kagome sighed dreamily, to be surrounded by family. Though her husband was polite in the presence of others, she wished the big grouch could just tolerate his brother for a single holiday. However, she could see why the man got angry. Right when everything was going fine, Inuyasha just had to say something; something that involved the house decorations.

“Keh, you should take some of these decorations down, they’re burning my eyes.”

“Be quiet, you insignificant idiot.”

Another verbal fight was ensured.
