Dinner for Five
“Uncle Sesshomaru! I missed you!” came a shrilly voice of the four-year-old girl dressed in green with stripped stockings. His breath escaped him when the girl collided with him, embracing his legs firmly. “Uncle, I’m an elf.” she said with a toothy smile, stepping back to show off her outfit. “We had a play today.”
“A play about what?” He lightly inquired, finding the little girl’s behavior… cute. She obviously takes after Inuyasha’s own behavior of becoming excited at something insignificant, but it was endearing instead of annoying.
“About Christmas and Santa Claus! I was one of his elves.” She proudly said, her lightly curled hair bobbing enthusiastically. “I wished you was there.” A pout came, her bottom lip jutting out and wobbling.
“I had to work today.”
She grabbed his hand, ready to lead him everywhere she had in mind until Kikyo gently told her to wash her hands as dinner was almost done. Before leaving however, she gave Kagome a quick hug and would have chattered the woman’s ears off when her mother cleared her throat.
“She is just so adorable.” Kagome gushed, watching the young girl skip out of the room.
“She’s really active, she runs Inuyasha ragged.” Kikyo said with a small chuckle.
“Oi, why is this bastard here?”
“Oh no…” Kikyo shook her head, glad that their daughter wasn’t in the room to hear Inuyasha’s brash language. “There will be no fighting tonight.”
Inuyasha grumbled. “Why do we gotta feed him? He could have eaten at his own damn house.”
“As a mature adult, “Sesshomaru started, amused at the pointed glare Inuyasha gave him. “I will not indulge in your childish behavior.”
Inuyasha opened his mouth to say something completely rude, but Kikyo stopped him with a look and their daughter bounced back into the room, unaware of the sudden tension.
“We will all sit down and enjoy the meal I have prepared as a loving and happy family… right Inuyasha?”
He looked away, not being able to handle the glare from his wife.
“Keh, fine.”
