From Scratch

“God, these cookies taste like crap!” Inuyasha exclaimed, spitting out bits of chocolate-chip cookies the women have made. “What were y’all tryna do, poison me!?”

Kagome looked down at the platter with different types of cookies piled high, some Christmas-themed, others were the same as the one Inuyasha was currently trying to get rid of. “You don’t like the cookies I’ve made?”

Kikyo gave Inuyasha a stern look. “Kagome had put much effort making them for everybody.” Inuyasha lightly cursed and took a tentative bite of the cookie he dubbed as crap, painfully swallowing a piece he wanted to heave out.

Sesshomaru knew better than to take a bite of the tree-shaped cookie with sloppy green frosting that sat on his small plate. His wife’s cooking was good, but her baking skills left little to desire. He could see the black edges around it and he had to stop his nose from crinkling in repulsion. Maybe if he hid it behind something while Kagome was preoccupied, he wouldn’t need to eat this abomination of a dessert.

“What do you think of the cookies, Sesshomaru?” Kagome inquired, expectantly looking at her husband.

“How come I’ve gotta eat them when this bastard didn’t take one bite?” Inuyasha whined, slamming the crumbling cookie on his flimsy plate.

Sesshomaru said the first thing that came into mind. “I’m allergic to eggs.” Smooth, real smooth.

“But you ate fried chicken when I made it the other day… I used eggs.” Kagome stated, looking mildly confused.

“I had to use Benadryl afterwards.”

“I didn’t see you take one.”

Inuyasha busted out laughing, catching up with the situation. “What a wuss, he’s making excuses so he doesn’t get to eat it.”

Kagome glared at the snickering male who was ignoring his wife’s own glare before returning to the silently brooding man that was her husband. “Is there a reason why you won’t eat my cookies?”

“Mine looks burnt.”

“Is that another excuse?” Kagome grumbled, narrowing her eyes.

He stared at the innocently looking… thing, bringing it to eye-level before sniffing it. Smells alright, but he still broke off the burnt edges before nibbling a piece.

It tasted awful. He gave a small cough when it plastered itself uncomfortably against his esophagus.

“What did you use for this… recipe?” He just had to know what she used, it tasted too stale and doughy.

“Flour, butter and cooking oil.”

“I think you are forgetting something.” Kikyo said, not once did the cookie on her plate connect to her mouth.

“What?” Kagome cutely asked, appearing quite clueless.

“Eggs.”
